Great video! Part of the Hyde Road ground still exists - at Halifax Town. The roof of the Skircoat Stand at The Shay came from the Hyde Road Stadium when City moved to Maine Road.
I'm from/living in Liverpool, I found this very interesting ... I like what you said about the two clubs having lyinks with each other ... In my City Liverpool took over Everton's old ground called Anfield !!!
Only just come across this video, very well put together, chronicling the rich history, all 143 years of it, of our magnificent club. Amazing to see the growth of it over the years when its beginnings were just a church team. Bravo mate, well done for telling our history , when know nothing 🛎🔚s suggest otherwise. 👏👏👏

The building behind you on Bennett St was the bus apprentice training school where I went occasionally until it closed. It then became the van maintenance and recovery section prior to it all being split up. I was told Beatties coal yard behind was the site of the football ground
Great vid mate, you should do one about the history of the Etihad site. I'm sure you're aware that Bradford pit was there for many years. Get in there before someone else does, sure you know who I mean!
There are 2 teams in Manchester because one is catholic, the other protestant. I was born right next to Man city ground on dunworth st, we all went to school next to the big parking lot on yew tree lane or is it called kippax. My sister dated Neil Young, good player who scored in FA cup final. Mum babysat Donahue who became city manager. We used to "mind cars" , protection money really.
There are multiple teams in Manchester. Mancity one of the two biggest was founded by a protestant church. The other biggest united weren't founded by a church at all
I remember all you scally wags , brendan mccolgan, ged mcilroy, declan mcormick, Mike Rowe, David Murphy, gaz mccolgan , Terry mccolgan , and many others . Remember the pound car ...
The old Belle Vue speedway stadium had the initials MCFC in the wrought iron over the Hyde Road entrance, so for many years I believed that was City's old Hyde Road ground as there had been a sports ground there before the speedway track was built, but apparently there was a short lived football team called Manchester Central FC. Your next lost history project perhaps?
Classic origins of football clubs, United a workers’ team, and City a church team. Personally I’ve never had particular animus to City, perhaps because our periods of success have rarely coincided. While we (I’m a red) have the Glazers I doubt that we will be able to challenge City. The long history of Manchester Football.
I’m doing a journalism project on the history of Manchester City and how the takeover has affected the club and the community. This video has really helped. Thank you
The shale pitch was known as Bennett St 'wreck' (spelling ?). Played there as a schoolboy in the early 60's. In later years the ICL building was built next to it (mentioned as Fujitsu in the commentary).
Great video "even from a Red", I'm from Gorton myself and then moved to west Gorton in 1975, great place to grow up TBH. Live in Tameside now. What I want to ask is do you know where I can go to take a panoramic photo of the new Manchester skyline. I tried Hartshead Pike with a 300mm f2.8 lens "hobby is photography" and as I expect with the haze you get the photo isnt great. I'm looking at getting closer but just cant think of anywhere "other than the Hilton", but thats inside and would rather be outside. Cheers. Just if you know anywhere. Keep the vids coming there great. Wish I could edit my videos like you 🙈🙈🙈
@@BeeHereNowuk In the 90's when City were still bobbins there was a tale that a gypsy had been living on the site of Maine Road and when they bought the land they kicked him off and he cursed the site.....the move to the new stadium broke the curse and hey presto! City don't suck anymore.....lol....good excuse for not winning owt for so many years!
@Return of the grapes. I heard the eviction was in the 50s or 60s when they were building a new stand....all rubbish of course but a great story all the same....best wishes and take care
The capacity was 80,000 when it was first built in the 1920s and the first game saw 80,000 there not 59,000. The lord mayor of Manchester kicked the game off and the caption reads 80,000 in attendance footage exists and you can clearly see the ground is packed. The "official figures at that time were a nonsense" and the ground was full on numerous occasions so much so that the 1930s saw the 4 corners extended making the capacity 85,000 hence the gate against Stoke in 1934. The official figures claim average attendances of 20 and 30,000+ if that was correct why would they increase the capacity of a ground that was only a quarter or a third full?. Over the 1920s and 30s the footage that exists prove the official figures are a joke even after the war the figures given were artificially lowered.

When United had to play their home games at Maine Road after the war, they drew bigger crowds than City, some things never change, thanks for sharing
Very interesting piece . Well done.

great video! My only gripe is that you said "world class players', and showed Mangala. :)
Belle Vue speedway stadium the Hyde Road main gates used to have mcfc above the entrance gates
That may of been Manchester Central FC that I think was a third Manchester team that didn't last long

But which Manchester team is the best. Manchester United or Manchester City.
Oldham Athletic
