- Vanessa, left an everlasting impression on the fans, both with her fists and charisma the moment she was added to the King Of Fighters franchise.
Vanessa was created alongside a number of middle aged characters like Maxima, Seth and Lin, to balance a bit the roster that was dominated mostly by teenagers. which makes her the oldest female figure in the series.

KOF 2000 may be my favorite entry in the series, and I love the main team from that game. You got K and Maxima, the boys, Ramon who is so much fun, and Vanessa who as this video has summed up is great. I'd love to see more done with her in-game.
Also cool that more obscure characters are getting the spotlight now.

The best boxing animations in fighting games period. SNK performed amazing work conveying the speed and strength of Vanessa's punches. She is easily one of my favorite King of Fighter's characters in terms of fighting style next to Kim, Robert, Jhun, Luong, May Lee, and King. It also helps that she's a genuinely unique character as her personality helps her stand out among the female characters in the cast.

@@elbucho8867 I'll give you that. Rick Strowd definitely had some amazing boxing animations. No doubt Vanessa's animations were partially adapted from him. But given that Rick appeared in older games, I still hand it to Vanessa for having higher quality animations. It's all a matter of preference at this point, but Rick deserves some love for sure.

Being in my twenties , it scares me a lot that reaching one day the 30's means becoming an old boring woman with endless other responsibilities 👵😭 but Vanessa makes me think that being in your 30's isn't that bad and it might be even better ❤️😍 as long as one has a good positive vibe about it ☀️
I say life definitely gets better the older you get. Life becomes more stable and you become a more complete and better person with every year. I don't know why society and media tries to make us believe the apex of our life is 16-25. Far from it I say.

Rhichever Mostly because of the suffocating responsibilities that often come with age and the fact that your prime usually ends around your 30s so it’s associated with the ASSUMED idea you are likely to never see the same highs again. That’s my working theory

Ah Vanessa, the one character ET likes to set as his team's anchor so that he can get the meter needed to perform her ToD combos. SNK did a good job with her model in XIV where you can "see" her age, and her voice actress did a great job too. She sounds really funny when she cancels an attack or when she gets hit by a CD.
I wonder if you are intentionally doing the lore of every character with a connection to Heidern before you do Heidern's lore video himself. That would be pretty cool actually. I can wait hehehe.

I do the same. Actually, close enough to imitate her punch speed (ofc not the crossups and whatnot, those are impossible). It just, uhm, sprained my arm so badly.

Her moves are real boxing moves (mostly). You can imitate her without looking stupid in real life.

The following is from the from the KOF2000 Hero Team story (remember those stories that give background info about the participating teams? you can still find them on the internet), Vanessa replying to her driver:
" 'Yes, we have reservations for dinner. But it's okay. It looks like we can do this without having to cancel it.'
The woman finishes her preparations as she looks toward the hall from her car window."
She's referring to her family. There's no mention of a dead husband, and no reason to assume he is dead.
As a Boxer and Muay Thai kickboxer, i love the use of bobbing, weaving, head movement, footwork and angling of characters like Vanessa, Dudely, Heavy D , Rick and a certain degree Terry Bogard and Rock Howard(boxing is a large part of their arsenal).
Yeah and it makes sense. Boxing is in a really useful base for any fighter when you think about it

Honestly I don’t see why her age is such a problem to her. With age can come wisdom and I’ll take that over young arrogance.
It's a groundless fear but i can relate to that since it could impact someone on a vulnerable level. I myself do not like to be called mister even in my own mid-20's. So i kinda relate to Vanessa here.

The first female boxer, Queen of Fighters and one of the women in the minority of being adults. Always a favorite character of mine, in such a colorful roster that SNK presents.
Tiffany Lords from Rival schools was the first female boxer in fighting games.
We all love Vanessa but Rick Strowd is an incredible boxer design. It's absolutely criminal that he has been neglected so long. We need Rick in KOF.
I prefer Rick over Vanessa.
He wont just because Vanessa was meant to become the game's boxing waifu, which makes returning male boxing veterans less relevant. Just like Zarina, if she stays, will keep taking the chances (which are not high in first place) of Bob Wilson.

@@NT35000 perhaps, or she either once dated Rick or was close friend to him, and she learned from him. I think i remember seeing a different version of Rick as one of the numerous strikers on KOF 2000. Plus Rick wasn't a secret agent nor mercenary. He was a boxer.

Vanessa sticks out to me a lot. She’s older than what most fighting games will typically have their female characters at, she’s fairly attractive but not overly exposed nor developed, and I think to this day, she’s the only female boxer I know in the genre. She’s also fairly strong as well, since for a human, she’s can stand up to beings capable of manipulating fire, shooting energy projectiles, and wielding psychic abilities, so I wouldn’t worry too much about her encounter with Ryuji. He looks like a nice guy, anyway. XD Thanks for making a video for her. She is truly the canonical queen of fighters.

Lol that interaction she has with Rock in KOF14 is so awkward if Terry was there he’d give Rock a nudge on the shoulder and be like “look at my boy got ol hot momma hitting on you go get some” lol, nah but I never played as Vanessa much and funny how she draw enormous parallels with C Viper a character I actually really liked in SF4 and hope returns as future DLC for SFVCE and Dudley rocks too perhaps I should consider giving Vanessa a shot I did get the KOF DLC pack with Rock, Yamazaki, Vanessa and Whip. Lmao when you called Yamazaki an innocent looking man tbh it may not have ended well for her Yamazaki is no joke but we’ll find out in KOF 15!!!

there's a real life example to vanessa's primary fighting style of boxing called boxer puncher, a combination of a slugger, a swarmer & a out boxer, it's true dudley of street fighter does also fit within this category however when it comes down to the sub fighting styles of boxing (which both also use) is where they differ as dudley would be consider a counter puncher & as to vanessa using south paw. there other combinations of primary & sub styles of boxing that are used by other characters within the fighting game genre for example mickey rogers (a.o.f) [out boxer+southpaw], rick strowd (fatal fury) [swarmer+counter puncher], heavy d (the king of fighters) [out boxer+counter puncher], balrog (s.f) [slugger+counter puncher], shen woo (the king of fighters) [slugger+switch hitter], steve fox (tekken) [out boxer+switch hitter], nelson (the king of fighters) [swarmer+south paw] etc. what makes vanessa & dudley stood out among the rest is they use the least most utilize primary boxing style which not only makes them unique but also 1 of a kind within their respected franchises

Also, love the video. She's also 6ft tall and strong AF. Topped off with her speed, precision and technique. The fact that she's one of the only boxing characters I've seen in a fighting game who employs the dempsey roll is impressive and a staple of her mastery. On top of her age and her line of work, as well as winning her first tournament she entered, it might be fair to assume she's among the most skilled and formidable female fighters in the franchise (Heck, I'd argue in most of gaming and fiction, especially with regards to her being a standard, street level human, but that's just my opinion).
Great video as always. I've been always curious to know where the idea of Vanessa being a widow comes from, since, as one can check by going to the KOF anniversary site and looking at 00's Team stories, her husband has always been alive in the canon. I too, was under the idea she was a widow so I assumed that her husband revived after Ash's comic retcon since he's mentioned in her XIV bio, but nope, he has always been alive. And yet, nearly everyone familiar with the series will tell you about her being a widow. So weird.
Anyways, keep up the good work and I hope to see you tackle all the team members of Team Mexico whether be as a group as individually since they're my favorite KOF characters ever.

Personally, I never thought that Vanessa shaking her hands after a combo was a sign of pain. I saw it as a taunt - as if she was hitting someone so fast that she pretended her hands were on fire and got burnt.

these videos are such a wonderful thing. especially since it's really hard to find KoF lore sometimes. and yeah, I remember reading Vanessa was still married myself. but her being widowed makes more sense to me and gives poor Ramon a shot lol.
if I'm correct the picture shown of her 2000 team fighting the American sports team is actually Canon, not fan art. they win which how heavy D! and crew get eliminated from the prelims that year.

You could say that her style is an orthodox way of Boxing unlike the southpaw style used by Heavy D.
Rather than Dudley or Viper she resembles pretty much more of an older version of Mila from DOA : a shorted red hair boxing girl with a kind personality. No really she really is a 3D young version of Vanessa...

When I saw her the first time in 2000, I oddly got attached to her almost immediately for how she coincidentally be so close to my original mascot character Milen Anessar (Yes, I still use that name and character to portray myself as you can see in my account name). Aside from just different hair color, she has striking similar hairstyle, lively personality, fight with bare fist (and gloves), has fairly large breasts, and is not a teenager that has kids (Well.... At the time my Milen was one but she is myself so she grew old with me now), so I kinda like to play as her for it's like my character is somehow in KOF. A weird reason, isn't it? XD

I always had a thing for boxers chars in fighting games (like Dudley) so when i started to play a bit a few months ago in KoF02um, i played her and feel in love, she got everything to me. style, grace, and being an attractive older woman (have a thing for older women) also an amazing theme in 14 she is easily my favorite char in KoF, then later got the dlc for her in 14 and enjoyed her even more, and also found Nelson who is also great to me. I wholeheartedly pray to the gods that these two make it in 15 as the base roster and strong. I dont know heavy D but if he plays like Dudley, Vanessa, or Nelson i would welcome him in too (but really want Vanessa if i have to make a choice).

Tiffany is the first female boxer in videogames before Vanessa arguable Tiffany is more of a kick boxer, but Vanessa also has kicks so yeah ends the argument there. Others probably on an RPG Ulala from Persona 2 does boxing, another contender is Bazett from Fate Unlimited Code and Tia from Breakers Revenge an SNK game but like Tifanny arguable she's a kick boxer since she uses kicks.

And put some yellow shades, rocket heels, and electric gloves. Made the character. As well as be a western/ CIA counterpart to Chun Li. Who is a Chinese interpol agent.

I think that this was an awesome video! One thing - is it possible that she shakes her hands at times as a kind of showmanship (or showpersonship would be the appropriate term, I suppose)? That is - the really great fighters also put on a show for the fans. This is especially true in pro boxing historically: Greats like Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr., and sooooo many more would do different things to make the fight that much more exciting and entertaining. I am not saying you are wrong with your explanation. I am asking if showing off a little is a possibility?

*I have Kof 2002 on my pc and play it sometimes when I'm really bored. My go to character is always Vanessa. I'm not good at Kof, and the only reason I play her is, because she reminds me of Steve Fox (From Tekken), who I main. Plus, she's fucking hot. U_U*

Chizuru may have helped Kyo and Iori defeat Orochi but Kyo’s team already had the tournament won by that point
