The 1960-1971 editions took place in Miami Beach, FL, USA. 1972 was held in Dorado, Puerto Rico. The first MU edition outside of the United States and their territories took place in Athens, Greece in 1973. And Manila, Philippines was the first MU edition in Asia in 1974.
For 50 years I have returned to this clip and continue to find Miss Spain alluring, a timeless beauty and special beyond measure. Yes, I do feel sad to know what her future brought her and hope anyone reading this will encourage troubled youth to seek help.

And we only had black and white television back then. The 1974 batch was among the most beautiful. All were deserving to win. Miss Wales seemed hesitant and unsure of how she would react. It wasn't until August 1974 that she revealed she had an infant child when she was competing in the miss United kingdom. The Europeans, always liberal and ahead of their time, didn't care. She won Miss United kingdom and later Miss world in November. Again we saw it in black and white. She resigned four days after because of pressure from the conservatives. For us who witnessed miss universe 1974 in our own country the Philippines, all the top five will forever have a place in our memories.

The Amparo of Spain was so beautiful, in these years no time was wasted, everything was meant to be done quickly, to finish quickly.It's not like now, now they give us more suspense when it comes to crowning, But for me the Miss Universe with the most suspense was 2011, it took about three hours to say the name of a candidate.😅 And the background music had me very nervous.
