If we didn’t use these things then those insects and sheep would suffer and it’s not an act of cruelty to utilize things that nature has provided us. If you choose not to eat meat, dairy or eggs I see and hear all the valid reasons for doing so but to refuse any/all animal by-products just on principal even if there are negative consequences just doesn’t make sense.

When beekeepers harvest honey, they're taking away a vital resource from the bees, and beekeepers may even replace the honey with sugar syrup, which is less nutritious for the bees. Also, bees are exploited in other ways like transportation and selective breeding (mixing colonies and even species) to increase honey production, which can weaken their immune systems.

It takes a lot to be a full on vegan, and if you do just one not vegan thing, I think it's justified to call yourself a vegan to not make it complicated.
At the end of the day, you should do whatever it takes to have a clear conscience. There are no written rules on how to be a correct vegan.

Vegans like Erin turn away people like Brandon from the lifestyle. If 2 semi-vegans gave up on veganism because of her shaming them, it already outweighs whatever environmental/ethical impact she had as a single vegan. Just 21 people eating 1 vegan meal a week would have the same impact as her. I'd imagine she's turned far more people away from even trying one meal. But it was never about ethics for her - notice how everybody else gave a reason why they became vegan except for her, she just listed her resume. She just wanted to feel morally superior to other people.

Some notes, from a long-time vegan:
* Straight off the bat, Erin doesn't represent the attitude which should correlate with veganism. I wish her well but also hope she isn't people's first impression of vegans.
* There are absolutely levels of vegan, and at the end of the day it is an identity which one puts on or not. Honey is strictly speaking not vegan, but I don't have a massive problem with it. And if you don't care about honey and call yourself vegan, close enough, I'm not gonna call you out on it. Sugar is often processed with bone char as a filter to make it white, but it's hard to say for any given sugar since it's one of several similar processes, and many vegans don't care about it. Many people identify as vegan who only follow vegan dietary restrictions, not abstaining from other products. Again, we're all under the same tent and it's all helping out at the end of the day.
* Tortillas almost never contain egg. Taco Bell tortillas included. Gluten free, Paleo, or high protein tortillas might, but I've never seen a regular tortilla contain egg.
* Sour patch kids are vegan, unless you consider bone char sugar (they may or may not contain). But the vast majority of vegans would consider them vegan.
* I'm only saying these things as background. If you're reading this as a meat eater, I wouldn't bombard you with all this unless you were curious, and we could absolutely be friends and go out to eat together and you can have your meat. Anger, provocation, or annoyance are never very productive even if you wanted to change someone, and that shouldn't be the goal in a relationship to begin with. Empathy and love are the goals, at least in my book. If the goal is to come to mutual understanding and respect, I'm happy to get to know anyone, you the reader included. Best wishes to you all
