- "For after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness…" Alma 34:33
THE GREAT SALT LAKE IS DYING. The largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere, crown jewel of Deseret's majesty, is rapidly drying up - imperiling an ecosystem which sustains thousands of unique species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, and potentially releasing clouds of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere which could have devastating effects on the Salt Lake Valley and beyond for decades to come. Years of severe drought combined with unsustainable levels of water usage have led to what could become the greatest calamity Utah has ever faced.
Critically, however, it is not too late to act… yet. The unusually high snowfall of the last winter has provided a much-needed spark of hope in these dark times, but this alone is not enough to save the Lake. Experts say that in order to prevent an environmental catastrophe, we have to fight for significant water policy reforms at the state and local level. It falls on us, those who will suffer the worst of the coming crisis, to speak up and take action before it is too late; we must preserve this land, lest our children inherit a world of dust and desolation.
Dedicated to Great Salt Lake Institute and especially to Dr. Bonnie Baxter, for all of her unwavering support and inspiration. Donate to Friends of Great Salt Lake here: www.fogsl.org/

VERSE A
As I walk down the hill
All the world slips into a standstill
When a soft breeze on my face
Lets me know this is the place
Lake of salt, fields of white
Diamond dust shimmers in the moonlight
O my Lord, strengthen my faith
And my sight
So when the last lily blossom has vanished from the land
And all the arches have fallen down
Oh, when the mighty Uintas have crumbled into sand
Who will know this was sacred ground?
CHORUS
Oh, let me go down to where the rivers flow
From their home in the mountains far away
Saline eyes, help the water level rise
As I wander the desert, I pray
VERSE B
All this pain I've been through
I survived, though I never meant to
Like a stone cut from the mount
What was lost will surely be found
Give it space, give it time
Broken hearts can be cured in cold brine
Lift the veil off of your light
Let it shine
So if the last silver gull flies in search of warmer air
And if our mother the Lake runs dry
Then in the dust of the earth I will build a temple there
Like the prophets of old, I will cry:
CHORUS
Oh, let me go down to where the rivers flow
From their home in the mountains far away
Saline eyes, help the water level rise
As I wander the desert, I pray
VERSE C
As I find my way home
Cleansed and baptized under the seafoam
Hear my song, hearken my prayer
While there's still time left to spare
Lay your hands on my head
And we'll be blessed and anointed
Beneath a sky dappled in orange
And red
So now we must be courageous and fight until the end
Live every moment for what it's worth
And like the waters of old we will someday rise again
For we are the salt of the earth
CHORUS
Oh, let me go down to where the rivers flow
From their home in the mountains far away
Saline eyes, help the water level rise
As I wander the desert, I pray
As I wander the desert, I pray
As I wander the desert, I pray

English is my favourite conlang
I mean, its part natural and part constructed at this point
@@theeclipsemasterno it's not? there is nothing constructed about modern English, that's why the comment was funny
@@that_orange_hat There are some, although very few, words in English that are constructed. Think of the word quiz, or hippodrome, etc. Very little of English is constructed, but some of it is
@@kyogre8192 "that's a made up word"
Great song! One day I hope that America decides to prioritise natural beauty over keeping their lawn green...
the deseret alphabet is really pretty
Indeed
I live in Deseret, but in Arizona, not Utah. I notice a similar problem; so much water here is wasted. I see plenty of neighborhoods with pebble lawns, but I see a couple with irrigated grass lawns. A couple too many.
Edit: Also kill the water things in parks. They waste an infinite amount of water, holy [redacted].
Update: I've listened to this song 32463247326428734863264339343572367547 times and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon
This is great!
Oh how I long to have the State of Deseret reformed again.
In Brogu'e we have a similar place with a similar problem. It brings many tourists to our pretty nation. Unfortunately, it brings companies that exploit it as well.

Wow, just wow. I do not know lojban at all but this song is INCREDIBLE.
I’ve been listening to this song non-stop for days now (along with the hymn of babel). Do you have any tips for making songs in conlangs? (on mobile) I’m making my own conlang called śikt ak ťuľa i’m nowhere near done but i do have some verbs done and phonology created. Also I can’t use my voice but any help or tips would be greatly appreciated :)

what font are you using that includes ascenders and descenders?
Though few and far between, some default fonts have their Deseret script in the revised style with ascenders and descenders. (A vast improvement, if you ask me!) The font used in the video is Geneva, which contains a modern and somewhat unconventional sans serif Deseret; Baskerville has a decent set of ascender/descender Deseret glyphs with serifs as well, though I don't much care for the lowercase 𐑀 just being 𐐿 with overdot.
Other than that, I believe there are a few custom fonts people have devised over the years, which you should be able to find with a web search. Good luck and 𐑊𐐫𐑍 𐑊𐐮𐑂 𐑄 𐑊𐐩𐐿!

@@theeclipsemaster robotee: "WHOA!! English?? I've never heard English before! It's a very uncommon language. Unfortunately I only speak Lojban. I'm glad that you decided to sing in such a rare language as English. Y'know, shake things up. I'm also glad you wrote the native English script and not just the [Deseret] transliteration. Beautiful singing and music. I hope the Lake stays."
me: "Hello, darling! Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad to see that you are still lojban-ing these days. God bless the Great Salt Lake!"
@@NoiseAndBells I hope god does bless the lake. I will add it to my prayers.
this is the script with the character that looks like amongus and is called "gay" 😮

@@theeclipsemaster "Yay, bravo! Very interesting script. I can learn a little just by watching the video. The "L"-shaped character has a strange meaning. I assume it's for a good reason. Anyway, I'm surprised to hear the Great Salt Lake is in ill health. I didn't know. But I'm with you in hoping that it is possible to treat the GSL with kindness."
