The Problem With Marvel TV Shows…

    I think a number of these shows could have been designed from the get-go to be a higher quality movie, ultimately what we have is a lot of lower quality content spread across a set number of episodes. And while you could probably make a concerted effort to cut out a lot of these extraneous or time-wasting scenes out of what's been released to the public - like a fan edit - or the studio could rework the series into a smaller run - ultimately you can only do so much with what's there, and the studio doesn't have an interested in releasing another cut of these series. Even if they could do that, they won't want to, because a director's cut is usually what they go for, and in these cases the director isn't going to cut out much, or add much. I think Obi Wan (similar to the Phantom Edit) might be an exception, though I'd love to see other MCU D+ shows get that treatment. I don't think Ms Marvel could be salvaged that way, however.

      I completely agree with this! I’m hoping that in the next couple years they figure out a new plan of how to structure these shows. And I’d definitely love to see Ms Marvel re-edited as a film!

    Yeah cause honestly these don't feel like tv shows at all. A tv show doesn't have to be incredibly episodic and the same format every episode BUT it shouldn't just be like part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6. At least Wandavision and What If differentiated their episodes enough to where they actually felt like episodes instead of a 6 hour movie.

    I think Marvel entered Television like "we come from big screen movies so we got this TV thing, in fact we're better because we can make it like movies" totally ignoring that for sometime now, TV has been on the same level of quality as movies, impressing filmmakers and making them flattered to contribute and adapt to the TV format, respecting it while improving it. Even Marvel TV was doing a way better job than the MCU itself with Daredevil and Punisher, and those shows still beat any show Marvel has released recently, so what's going to take for Kevin Feige to understand "okay, we might have been a little bit over ourselves" and I think in some capacity he knows it and hopefully Echo and Daredevil can improve on this. Final thing: Please, for our sanity, make more episodes with a longer runtime and less 15 minute credits, most shows on streaming are 50+ minutes now with 3 minutes credits (that you don't even have to wait for additional scenes) and make them matter, even if it's just for character development. All of these shows can easily be made into movies by fan editors and actually improving them by removing all the unnecessary fluff (and also by making it less painful) which shouldn't be a good sign for any of these shows.

      They should've just released shows on characters we won't see in the movies anymore there arc can cross over to tvshows ...
      Loki
      Wandavison
      Hawkeye should should've been mix with black widow more
      Black widow should have her own show as well prequel or new bw that is her sister
      Within these shows you can indeed use new characters
      Eco
      Ms marvel are cash grabs and fan service shows
      Moon knight should've been ghost rider instead you could interface moon knight there...even with this new thor movie that could've been a show we don't need a million thor movies let thw new much wanted characters get movies you want cosmic let's go silver surfer..let's see a wolverine movie f4 movie start a new arc of secret wars and embrace the new heros

    In regards to FATWS I agree last ep is mainly action. But the character moments perhaps slower moments you want is what ep 5 was after the crescendo of ep 4. Then they end with a movie level third act fight. So the mcu is just trying to be consistent and please it's fans with the shows same way they would the films. Maybe that's not your fav method but give them credit for trying to please the exclusive film fans by just making 6 hour long films with more character moments and development and keeping to their action standard. Where they have failed with chi they have succeeded in effort to keep the shows cinematic. Hiring movie talent and film level directors with film sized budgets

    • @DarthWinterMadness
      @DarthWinterMadness 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's really frustrating with these shows.
      To me they are both too short and too long.
      Some things are rushed way too much, and others drags way too much.
      Marvel has trouble finding the balance and issues managing time. Whether it's screen time to tell the story as best as it should, and time behind the scenes (mostly time given to VFX artists which is, more often than not, not enough) to keep the budget as low as possible whilst showing the audience the best product possible.
      They've been failing on all of that.
      And the frustration doesn't end there when you see that with the right people attached to the projects, they can do a really good (if not great) job.
      We just need to look at Netflix's Daredevil.
      The same thing is happening with Star Wars. Andor is considered the best Star Wars show, even though it's a spin-off of a spin-off about a side character. On the other hand Ahsoka and Kenobi (who already are beloved characters fans wanted more of) got shows people didn't like at all.
      Yes it has a little bit to do with legacy and expectations, but it has mostly to do with how the shows are ran.
      Anyways, cheers from France! 🍻

    Agatha isn't the villian??? She's an antagonist to Wanda, sure. But villian? It's clear Wanda is the villian, it's her villian origin story just like Arthur fleck is the villian in Joker but still the protagonist. Maybe one did the descent into villiany better than the other but they are both villian protagonists. Saying Agatha is the villian is like saying Murray is the villian of Joker. Just antagonists who arents great minds rally themselves. Agatha is an antihero. She did set herb free from Wanda's control back in ep 3 and did tell Wanda to release the people of west view and even help Wanda see the harm she was doing. She even let the kids go and urged them to "listen to your mother boys" and leave the fight between her and Wanda. But she did kill sparky with no remorse. In fact with devilish glee. Rip sparky

    • @JackPerry22
      @JackPerry22  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but one line of dialogue at the end of the show really doesn't sit right with me. "They will never know what you scarified for them". This is what I mean when I say they held back on making Wanda the villain of the show. I think how Joker and Wanda are handled are two vastly different things, but I see your point :)

    • @Thed538dhsk
      @Thed538dhsk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JackPerry22 To be fair about that like, Wanda immediately follows up with "it wouldn't change how they view me". She knows regardless of her personal sacrifice of her dream reality that the people of west view will see her as a monster for what she did to them. Also Monica said that to Wanda after recently losing her mother and saying given Wanda's powers she likely would've done the same to bring her mom back. It wasn't Wanda saying how much the people of west view won't appreciate her sacrifice or the writers, it was a character going through grief and mourning who related to Wanda wanting to escape into a false reality rather than face loss of a loved one. Shared grief. To relate back to joker Monica would be like the rioters in the joker film who relate to Arthur in some way due to what they are going through being called clowns by comfy billionaire Thomas Wayne while they suffer working class lives in a hard city to live in. Doesn't mean the film is saying it's okay to riot or kill wealthy people just like Wandavision doesn't excuse Wanda's actions with that line. Cheers

    Hawkeye introduced the mcu kingpin, echo, and Kate while exploring Clint and giving Yelena an arc. That's the functions of the show or goals. The show is all about Clint. Kate is a fan of his hero persona, Hawkeye. Yelena is a demon persay from his past almost like a ghost of Natasha haunting him for not sacrificing himself in endgame. Echo is again a demon or sin of his ronin days those 5 years. Meanwhile his family is what defines Clint, the man not the superhero or vigilante killer or friend of Natasha. The show explores through characters all the sides of Clint Barton; shield agent, Natasha's best friend, father and husband, Hawkeye superhero avenger, and finally ronin vigilante murderer

    So you rightfully critique that there is too much mcu content for you to keep your sanity watching. Fine. But then you critique the shows for not being longer with their runtime and ep length. Seems like you may want your cake and eat it too. Which is it? Too much mcu content or you want more to fully develop the stories being told?

    • @JackPerry22
      @JackPerry22  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may not of explained this clear enough. What I'm asking for is quality over quantity and I personally believe in order for these shows to have higher quality, they need to be longer stories where the characters are stories are developed more. I don't think we needed all 6 of these shows in the short amount of time we received them. I would've preferred to of seen 2 of these shows a year, where much more time was put into them instead of 1 show after the other. There's no time to breathe with the shows and the films coming out one after the other. It seems like you enjoyed these shows and movies and that's totally fine. I'm glad you did :) However, I just didn't and there's is clearly a problem at Marvel currently with many VFX artist coming out and talking about the poor conditions and short deadlines. I think something needs to change in order for the workers to be happy as well have the audience that pays for these services to be given higher quality material. Thank you for your comments, appreciate your opinion :)

    • @Thed538dhsk
      @Thed538dhsk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JackPerry22 I can see where you're coming from and that's why I point out post COVID delays the shows look like 3 per year with some shows getting more eps like daredevil born again. And yes vfx artists need more time to work on projects and less crunch but to be fair to marvel studios these vrx artist's ate third party workers. The vfx houses or companies overworking the artists tell marvel studios they can meet the deadlines but likely underhire to maximize profits making current artists have to be overworked instead of hiring more artists. Example is the water map in shang chi was one company. They only did vfx for that, when the car car goes to ta lo water portal and end credits. Then another company does say the rings vrx vs the animal vfx vs the action scene vfx and marvel studios has brought in more vfx houses to make each project he better. Maybe in the future better vetting of employer satisfaction or employee reviews can help marvel studios outsource to only good working conditions vfx houses.
      Regardless of how I feel about the shows, I hope they get better to your liking and keep you thoroughly entertained and interested. Maybe they will learn from their mistakes or won't. But I do think quantity or 3 shows per year doesn't have to sacrifice quality as fans would argue when legion, aos, and daredevil all aired the same time there was quality. Now it's all in house of marvel studios vs those other production companies like Netflix or marvel entertainment under and or fx

  • @Thed538dhsk
    @Thed538dhsk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a problem with the "oversaturation" critique of the mcu that you bring up in the first minute of your video
    1. Runtime. True that phase four of the mcu has a higher runtime than the comics there phases. However, that ISN'T INCLUDING non mcu marvel shows like the marvel Netflix or shows like aos. The mcu in phase four with minor exceptions like modok or hit monkey have just absorbed marvel television as well as operating the films. So that means abc won't make aos or cloak & dagger and fx won't make the gifted or legion etc. Disney xd won't continue making avengers assemble or the other animated shows and Netflix won't keep making Jessica Jones. So when we total up runtime, add in all those fx, Disney xd, Netflix and abc shows and then you'll see phase four runtime is nothing vs prior marvel runtime of the past
    2. Oversaturation may happen to you personally. I'm not trying to discount your felling of being bombarded by content or overwhelmed.
    3. Covid. Caused the single largest break in the mcu's history from ffh in July if 2019 to July 2021. Two year break for films, about a year and a half before we got Wandavision. Sure we got new mutants in that break but....that doesn't really count since it's new mutants lol. This break was the calm before the storm because mcu content for 2020 was just conjoined with 2021 content. Two years of mcu content in one year. 2022 has been far more balanced with 2 films so far, 3 shows so far with them never airing the same time as the films and only 6 hour long eps released week by week. That's 1 hour of mcu content per week perhaps even less per year. That's really not that much compared to wen daredevil aired the same time aos and agents of smash AND the films. Thx for reading my Ted talk lol
