I looked up the summary and from what I've been able to tell, it seems to be the agoraphobia that kills you oh, like the body is having some extreme Panic reaction to going outside
He was selfish to the end, but in a way that it was logical. He was ruthless when he had to be, but he was not a monster. I think it is the most balanced character in the whole thing, and I have the feeling that it is part of Coronado's skill as an actor that the audience is led to empathise with him gradually.
Enrique was surprisingly a good side character. He didn't backstab the ML and had a logical mindset. You don't get that kind of thing with today's movie.

I'm wondering if they could get around the panic by going outside while inside a portable tent or even a human-sized bag. Can they drive cars? Motor homes? Campers? What if you build covered walkways between buildings? They seem fine at open windows and doors, so apparently all they need are three walls and a roof.
@@quinnbaygo2112 it's just a cinematic trope I see often, so I was surprised they didn't add it since it was obviously set up for it (but I guess they did do it)
Lol I picked up on that as well, but I think what it means is that the irrational fear of going outside is literally what kills them (some form of extreme agoraphobia according to the wikipedia page)
Allthough not perfect and having flaws this movie is a good example as to why international, casual-movies should get more, global recogniton. People really should give movies from other countries a chance more often.
very true. What's more, Catalonia (and Spain by default, I guess) has given some very talented directors and actors, even working for hollywood firms. Science fiction is not our strong suit, mainly because the amount of money needed to produce a decent sci-fi movie with good effects, but there are quite some very good catalan and spanish drama and historical drama movies/series
Its the english barrier sadly. If its not native, it wont really appeal. Ive had lots of very good movies that simply couldnt follow cause reading is not why I watch things.
I have seen other comments pointing out how they only die because of the irrational fear, which in turn is what perpetuates the lethal agoraphobia they are experiencing but yes, that was a poor choice of words.
The irrational fear is what kills them. Nothing outside kills them. The act of going [outside (edited from 'inside')] is what kills them because of the false perception of danger.
I really appreciate the realism in the details of the weaponry in this movie. For example, when he shoots the gun in the sewer, and his ear drum bursts, or when the bear attacks and they use the fire to keep it at bay, finally using the bear's weight against itself with the spear (This is actually the proper way to kill a charging bear with a spear)
Yeah, the only quarrel I have is that gasoline doesn't combust and cause explosions. A solid shot would just spill the gas everywhere, with minimal chance it would even catch fire before slowly burning out. Other than that, this movie seems pretty good.
@@futureparadise.2089Its common sense to let a bear charge at you and then impale it against it's own weight? Most people in that situation, even if they had a spear, are not about to try that.
"Causes people to develop an irrational fear of going outside." "If they go outside, they die within seconds." I don't think you know what "irrational" means.
Wrong choice of word, sure. The idea still stands that if they step outside, they die. I'm pretty sure that they showed scene's of that during the first part of the movie.. People where having convulsions/foaming at the mouths at the site of standing near doorways.. So I think it's safe to say 1/3 of these people would have died if they got forced to go outside.. If you watch the full movie, you will see how it's basically physically impossible to beat this "feeling of outside". Don't underestimate how one's brain is wired.. There are normal people out there who will have a heart attack at the thought of doing something that they fear.
From what I've been able to read of the Wikipedia summary, it seems like it's the fear itself that kills them. Like the body is reacting in a very extreme fear-based way to going outside. A scene that is mentioned in the Wikipedia summary seems to point to this. They mention a current event story of a boy who commits suicide towards the beginning of the pandemic because his father can't understand his sudden onset agoraphobia
I remember watching this movie. It turned out to be a very good one. I felt bad for the parents left behind. It was good (inspiring) that they found a way to live within that building......but I felt bad that they were left alone, in the end. I think it would have been better for the "kids", who were able to go outside, to have stayed around and just rebuilt a society that also included their parents, who could not go outside their buildings. I think that would have made for an interesting new society. But that wasn't the vision of the moviemakers.
The symbolism of the movie is how easily we can live in fear of the world falling apart as adults. It's important that we don't force our children to also live in that fear and give them a chance to live in the world they can make for themselves.
I remember watching this movie a few years ago. Surprisingly well done, a solid message about preparing your children for the future, but able to let them go as your time passes.
Not that solid when similar show called Made in Abyss could explain better why going a certain area could cause instant death and how people using tools could compensate for it, and dont start talking about moral message when the latter show also has more moral messages than the former
@@linnen_elm this movie doesn't need an in depth reason. I love MIA because it tackles so many subjects with maturity, and the reason gives weight to the world and its consequences. This film, however, chooses to ignore the "why" but instead focuses on the "how". It yields a stronger story overall.
No, 100 fell into the "Lost" trap of adding things that made less and less sense while zooming out narratively. This movie, partly because it was a movie and not a show, stays very pure. I'd also like to see the continuation of the movie, however in a form of a sequel instead of a series that would most likely get cancelled after 1 season with many open plotlines. It would still be uncertain if the sequel would be any good, considering it would be quite different in several ways.
This was a surprisingly interesting and good movie. I like the aspect that not everyone is out to betray each other and Enrique was an amazing side character. Wish they made more movies like this where everyone isn't just a prick, lol.
I would suggest looking into different foreign movies like this. Typically, film-makers draw upon troupes and cliches that are prevalent in their culture's films. In Hollywood, typically, this means you see a lot of characters with similar "prick" personalities.
Inside his job territory Enrique was such a heartless person.. Fortunately outside this "job territory" he wasn't as heartless as he was inside his job.. By helping marc throughout his journey and in the end saving him from that person that was trying to kill him and getting himself killed was really noble of him.. He wasn't good nor evil.. He was just a man.. Thankfully because of him marc managed to get to his girlfriend and start a new life..
I like how they didn't ruin the movie by trying to explain/cure the mysterious affliction. Sometimes by simply leaving something vague, you make it much more memorable than you do by explaining it.
@@SilkyLew I think they'd definitely ruin it. Even if they thought it out _extremely_ well, there would still be holes in the explanation, and then it would be people saying they didn't like it because the explanation didn't make sense.
@@xxbuddybluexx9246It leaves more to the imagination, also leaving more to talk about afterwards as it's internationally open for interpretation. Art isn't always about that reason, though. It's about feeling.
I really liked Enrique, as well I liked his character arc, where, before everyone were forced to stay inside because of the Panic pandemic, he started out as a jerk (a boss-cliche), but as his character develops when the Panic pandemic hit and helps Marc to find his girlfriend, he became a friend to Marc, plus, there was no betrayal at all (which is rare in movies these days). So that's why watching him die is just heartbreaking. RIP Enrique
True that. I fully expected him to sell out or turn on Marc at some point because movies tend to use that trope. But it's good that he was a decent man and smart too, gathering seeds and supplies and giving Marc a different outlook on this man who he only knew before as the asshole boss.
7:50 Just be honest UPFRONT if you really want kids or not. And if you change you mind about kids later in the relationship TELL your partner right away otherwise you're a bad person. Period. End of story. Whether you want kids or not is a deal breaker. You can't compromise on that issue. Either you want them or you don't and if you and your partner are on opposite sides of the issue the relationship is over. You will NEVER change someone's mind who does really want kids and you will NEVER change the mind of someone who really doesn't want kids. If you try to baby trap them and believe they will love the kid once it's born think again. They wont, they will resent you and it will build and build until they hate you. And they will resent their child and maybe grow to hate them too. No child should EVER grow up feeling resented and unwanted. Don't do it. Just end the relationship. No matter how much you love them they will resent you and grow to hate you if they want kids and you refuse and they will resent and grow to hate you if you force them to be a parent.
Enrique was probably a "hatchet man", expressly hired to do downsizing. So he purposefully put out a ruthless, jerkwad persona to make people uncomfortable and resign. This reducing the number of people he had to outright fire. But deep inside he's a good man, a man of his words, and planned ahead very well (the seeds). RIP Enrique.

The notion that apocalypse didn't erase borders but the reasons for having them is intriguing. It makes you think about the fragility of societal structures. Once the world falls apart, what's left to separate us? It's a stark commentary on the fragility of the constructs we take for granted.
Great movie, but the thing is without all the guys constantly repairing power lines and infrastructure the whole utilities grid would go offline with no maintenance. There used to be another show just like this years ago, probably 1990s or something if I remembered correctly. It was about how humans are unable to go out of their homes because it burns their skin and is forced to be in a lockdown. Something to do with the sun burning too bright and hot that it burns the skin. New generation was born and the kids are let outside and they don't feel the pain but their skin slowly melts off and is replaced with some sort of metallic shield that prevents them from burning alive from the sun. This show is some sort like that but different. I don't know if anyone remembers it.
I think it was an episode of The Outer Limits, or one of the other twilight-zone inspired shows. I remember seeing it as a kid. Some song was going around the party scenes that appeared to be seriously messing up young people, but couldn't be heard by adults (I think playing off the loss of the hearing spectrum that occurs even by early adulthood.) It turned out to have been transmitted to earth by aliens. Unbeknownst to us, the sun was about to undergo a catastrophic chemical change, and the music caused children/teens to transform into having metallic skin to protect from the harsher UV. If I recall correctly, they eventually found a way to cause the same effect for adults at the end. Pretty sure some of the kids afflicted early on died because of medical attempts to save them from the transformation.
Such a beautiful movie, that covered both the light and the darkness of humanity. Fear, greed, and insanity. Balanced out perfectly with love, hope and unity (friendship).

As someone who's has been inside his house or his "comfort zone" most of his life this movie hits . People doesn't understand how hard it is to be able to even socialize when ur outside. :(
It’s because they have so much fear of going outside they will do anything to not go outside. When they do go outside they have some panic attack that ends up killing them
Maybe it's quite literally the “idea” of what outside is that is the determining factor. Putting a crate on rollers and having it pulled across the street with rope might work.

"rebuild society from scratch" not to be the bearer of bad news but, if society collapses due to the fact there isn't any more easily accesible resources there's no way to rebuild it.
Things requiring large-scale organization (like fuel supplies and power plants) will be almost impossible. The tools are there, the parts are there, but the skills will be very hit-or-miss after 15 years of starvation and fighting, and the organization and incentive systems would have to be completely rebuilt, which would take a VERY strong and intelligent leader of the kind rarely seen in history. Even a medieval level society would be tricky when the important skills of that level are rare among modern folks. An urban IT guy can't teach his son to blacksmith or use a horse-drawn plow. I'd bet on mass die-offs in most places, with new centers of society growing up in rural areas where people know enough about farming to feed themselves after the tractors stop running. They'd have a small boost from the availability of modern tools, but much of what's lying around isn't relevant to that lifestyle. Maybe not "from scratch", but close enough to it.

I think it's because they're not technically outside? Like, still surrounded by structure? When Enrique breaks the window to jump out he's kind of 'outside' but he's still within the confines of the building.
@Shining Pecan yeah the problem is them not the outside. It’s a psychological induced death. If they perceive they’re outside then they get so scared they die. So since they’re still in the building and do not psychologically perceive themselves as outside then they are fine
I remember watching this movie with my mom about the time when just about all 50 states in the US got their first Cov-Id cases. While watching it we talked about how some of the issues the people in the movie were going through were not all that different then what was being experienced by those trying to deal with Cov-Id. Where it got to the part were people started having to eat things like rats/birds/etc. and sometimes shooting/killing each other for the merger items/food that one had on them, I told my mom "At least things are not that bad". And after a moment of thinking about it I added "..,..well at least things are not that bad yet, but who knows if it will get that bad in the future". I think after me saying that she got just a little more stressed out than she was before.
I would've loved to see this concept explored more. I know it would probably be watered down eventually, but it would be interesting to see how other countries react to this kind of disease.
apparently it's an extreme agoraphobic reaction that kills them, not some disease or environmental factor. Basically it's like suddenly becoming so arachnophobic that just the very presence of a spider is enough to cause your brain to make you seize and go into respiratory failure because it doesn't know how to respond.
This may be a joke but it’s still an irrational fear. They’re not scared because going outside means death. They die because they’re scared. Outside isn’t the problem it’s them. The disease causes them to fear outside so much that once they do they get so scared they die.
Irrational because it started with no apparent cause. Meaning the first people developed this intense fear out of nowhere and then proceeded to die when going outside. Sounds like the literal definition of irrational.

the story is basically about a massive psychological shift in the mind of everyone. the movie makes sure to show that it doesn't happen all at once so it's not magic or a super natural monster at work. the movie shows how a few already mentally compromised people are being more anxious and began panicking , to the point of a fear of either the outside or sunlight or sun warmth to a lesser degree. these kinds of panic attacks leading to heart failure and death by seemingly innocent forces actually happen to people. the 1st man just didn't want to go outside and everyone thought he was weird yet they were fine although they saw him die and rememberd that. the the viral video of the boy killing himself because the panic was too strong. the MC started seeing less people or others acting strange. so it shows you how impressionable people are and how easy people can make drowned conclusion and make connections that are not always there. the MC thought he knows what happened to the original guy ..as the population started to also worry, they become more vulnerable to the conspiracies in their minds already which was people dying because of the sun or outside. it's literally mass hysteria which isn't really something that happens like that but it's still possible. so this is why everyone old enough to remember that time as grown acustom and fearful of going outside but the really young people don't have that psychological imprint in the mind for the body to turn against it's self when going outside. also the MC show himself focusing on his GF and not being outside and was able to power through it.. this movie is about a massive paradigm shift ,where the collective society has unconsciously agreed that outside is bad because a few people had a panic attack from it now everyone is having it passing around a purely mental sickness.
Imagine doing all the work trying to survive indoors while there is actually no real danger from the outside. It is just a perceived danger that everyone internalized. I had a few panic attacks but never heart failure, and panic attacks aren't life threatening.
Ah, so the fear developed first and then the death and not the death and then the fear. Maybe the body knew that something wasn't right and that something very bad would happen if they went outside. Earlier (before lockdown) many people weren't affected and so didn't have the fear of going outside and thus didn't die, it is only those who were afraid of the outside that died, maybe they were the initial patients of the plague or perhaps the placebo effect occurred and their bodies over-reacted to going outside and started to attack itself think that it was attacking the actual threat, this might have caused it to spread more rapidly as these would add to the case of what was shown on the news about the teenager.
Enrique was actually a good character he just wanted to live a good life with his dad and still deciding to not betray the main character I forgot the main character name sorry but he was a good guy
I really enjoyed watching this movie, there was no zombies or monster, just a natural phenomenon that wasn't explained in the movie why it happened, in many ways it was kinda sad...I even liked the ending...
I'm not too sure about the concept of 'outside' being deadly. Do they ever give a reason why going outside affects them? If it's fear based, could they go outside if they did not know they were going outside? For example, could they wear a helmet that completely blocks their sight?
Good movie overall. Nice twist in the end with next gen kids being immune to the disease. Moral of the story "ur boss is a jerk but can be ur only savior during the pandemic" 🤣🤣
I saw this movie when it came out, althought not put in the recap the reason given in the movie for the panic attacks, was because a volcano erupted. The eruption put in the air some particles that flied across the globe (like the radioactive dust) modifying something in the brain that makes the body imitate an extreme reaction / panic attack to being outside. The new generations didnt have that because eventually the air recycled getting rid of this particles, and it didnt affect genetically.

I'm intrigued but I hate it when movies don't give explanations to why something is happening. I like the ending due to its post apocalyptic setting and the idea of restarting society, but i'd still wanna know why the entirety of humanity suddenly had such an extreme bodily reaction to going outside. Why are the buildings safe? It appears underground is okay but why are the buildings above ground safe for them? Has it really got something to do with being enclosed? Or is it something in the levels of air outside that is different from the air inside? And why are the kids born from the people trapped inside or underground safe from going outside? It's a very intriguing concept but if there is no explanation as to why, then why bother telling the story in the first place? It's like birdbox. I basically waited the entire movie for an explanation of the what and how and it never came. Ever since then I've hated movies that do the 'create your own explanation' thing. I could've not wasted my time. It's why I love these recaps so much. It introduces a lot of movies I've never heard of that have an interesting story and I wouldn't mind watching but then learning there is no wrapup whatsoever regarding the reason or issue of what's going on, I at least won't have wasted an entire movie's time worth.
It’s because the simple idea of being forced to go outside give them such a strong panic attack that kills them. I love this movie cuz realistically no one will be able to figure out why everyone started having theses attacks. Bad thing is that it could happen in real life
I like to think that the real reason is because there is a new kind of radiation that the sun starts producing causing the reactions in humans. But that's just my own head canon lol 🤓😏🤓
Hmm, yeah, that could work. My take on your theory would be that the radiationlevels change something significantly in the air that's more permeated when outside compared to inside and on top of that it changed the way anxiety and panic is handled by the brain regarding being exposed to those outside levels. Experiencing a panic attack is the brain's way of saying 'we're in danger, we need to get out, we need to leave' while there is no danger. Your body floods with adrenaline which causes your heartrate to go up and raise your bloodpressure. So what happens when your heartrate and bloodpressure goes up into the extreme and does not come down? Yep, you die.

Relatable and rational are not the same thing.

Sounds like a fairly rational fear to me........
It's taken from the movie's description
From what I've been able to read of the Wikipedia summary, it seems like it's the fear itself that kills them. Like the body is reacting in a very extreme fear-based way to going outside. A scene that is mentioned in the Wikipedia summary seems to point to this. They mention a current event story of a boy who commits suicide towards the beginning of the pandemic because his father can't understand his sudden onset agoraphobia

It was good (inspiring) that they found a way to live within that building......but I felt bad that they were left alone, in the end.

Great movie, but the thing is without all the guys constantly repairing power lines and infrastructure the whole utilities grid would go offline with no maintenance. There used to be another show just like this years ago, probably 1990s or something if I remembered correctly.

Define "outside" because it seems to me if this is based on "fear of open spaces" you could just put on a visored motorcycle helmet then go out.

but that wasn't the case, resources were still available, the old generations could just no longer walk outside...

Awesome that the GPS is so advanced that it gets reception underground.
the story is basically about a massive psychological shift in the mind of everyone. the movie makes sure to show that it doesn't happen all at once so it's not magic or a super natural monster at work.
the movie shows how a few already mentally compromised people are being more anxious and began panicking , to the point of a fear of either the outside or sunlight or sun warmth to a lesser degree. these kinds of panic attacks leading to heart failure and death by seemingly innocent forces actually happen to people.
the 1st man just didn't want to go outside and everyone thought he was weird yet they were fine although they saw him die and rememberd that. the the viral video of the boy killing himself because the panic was too strong. the MC started seeing less people or others acting strange. so it shows you how impressionable people are and how easy people can make drowned conclusion and make connections that are not always there.
the MC thought he knows what happened to the original guy ..as the population started to also worry, they become more vulnerable to the conspiracies in their minds already which was people dying because of the sun or outside. it's literally mass hysteria which isn't really something that happens like that but it's still possible.
so this is why everyone old enough to remember that time as grown acustom and fearful of going outside but the really young people don't have that psychological imprint in the mind for the body to turn against it's self when going outside.
also the MC show himself focusing on his GF and not being outside and was able to power through it..
this movie is about a massive paradigm shift ,where the collective society has unconsciously agreed that outside is bad because a few people had a panic attack from it now everyone is having it passing around a purely mental sickness.
Mental illness as plauge. LOVE IT. Especially done right
Wow ok
Imagine doing all the work trying to survive indoors while there is actually no real danger from the outside. It is just a perceived danger that everyone internalized. I had a few panic attacks but never heart failure, and panic attacks aren't life threatening.
Yea this is actually wild to think about. Coming back ,this was a great movie that I never watched haha
It looks like a good film to watch, even if GPS doesn't work underground or in tunnels.
The thing that I love about this channel is that it allows you to discover great movies you otherwise never would have found.

I really enjoyed watching this movie, there was no zombies or monster, just a natural phenomenon that wasn't explained in the movie why it happened, in many ways it was kinda sad...I even liked the ending...
I teared up when Enrique dies, from a 15 min recap video. Good narration for a fine film.
A very metaphoric and full of symbolism. Regeneration. A cycle. Old generation. New generation. Old world. New world. Very interesting movie.
Okay 👍
The earth spun on its axis
*WHICH INFURIATED MARK*
I really like the music you have playing during your videos, it makes this story more emotional to me.
I'm not too sure about the concept of 'outside' being deadly. Do they ever give a reason why going outside affects them? If it's fear based, could they go outside if they did not know they were going outside? For example, could they wear a helmet that completely blocks their sight?
It could be a phobia to the sun orsky or nature.
Take that for a metaphore
Look up agoraphobia
Good movie overall. Nice twist in the end with next gen kids being immune to the disease.
Moral of the story "ur boss is a jerk but can be ur only savior during the pandemic" 🤣🤣
I saw this movie when it came out, althought not put in the recap the reason given in the movie for the panic attacks, was because a volcano erupted. The eruption put in the air some particles that flied across the globe (like the radioactive dust) modifying something in the brain that makes the body imitate an extreme reaction / panic attack to being outside. The new generations didnt have that because eventually the air recycled getting rid of this particles, and it didnt affect genetically.
that enrike was mvp at last
So.. they have developed symptoms of being afraid going outside, as an introvert this a win-win situation.
Not if no one delivers you food, groceries. Electricity.
You evidently don't know what an introvert is then. It's someone who rather be left alone, doesn't mix well with others and is quite able to entertain himself. Nothing to do with going outside, quite the opposite, introverts enjoy the outside just as much as anyone else. I'm an introvert just in case you want to know.
@@mikethespike7579 especially if 'going outside' consist of enjoying the natures, that'll keep'em happy
@@mikethespike7579 whatever, have fun with that notion. The problem becomes , as shown is as a introvert you would be exposed more. Unless you're a survivalist like introvert, this seems like it would be your worst nightmare. As random people pop up, attempting entry to your goodies.
@@quinnbaygo2112 Well, yeah, in a post global catastrophe scenario you'd have far better chances of survival if you're part of a crowd. Unless you're a trained survivalist with excellent skills I think an introvert wouldn't last long on his or her own.
wait, so shooting was so loud it made his ears bleed but making the shot cause huge explosion and both guys are fine.
"a man in the subway was even wearing a mask"
Wow how strange that would be.
Thanks for these. I'm in "Silicon Valley" where internet access is really bad. It's really hard to download and watch an entire movie, but these are watchable. I only had it lock up 2X and that's just because my connect speed is so slow, nothing wrong on your end.
"I'm in "Silicon Valley" where internet access is really bad."
Are you kidding, most of the technologies that enabled the commercial internet that we know today were invented here in Silicon Valley. I live and grew up in Silicon Valley and I have 150 Mbps cable internet, it works great. :)
Dude these movie recap channels find absolute bangers that no one knows of
Just a heads up but you put the wrong description for a different movie into the description box.
*To be Honest I make fantastic videos but people don't watch them 😔😭😭*
Then what was the description was talkin about
@@tgagaming1354 The description is from their previous video from a movie titled 'Awake'.
What's this movie called?

It’s so cute the writers thought there would still be food in the cafeteria after three months
Dude said “irrational fear”. Instant death air is very rational
Bad thing is that it could happen in real life
@@killakill6030 lol....
We call this thintelligence, can't see anything of the wider ideas and workings
That was such a good bromance, I got sad when he died :(
great story needs great direction and actors. Marc, Enrique, Julia , Andrea all did amazing acting and work. loved the ending.
I always think it's weird when movies do the oh a kid just stabbed u but u notice it was just a kid so you stop, if that kid stabbed me he's going to be dead.
Ikr, it doesn’t matter what age, I have to defend myself if anybody tries to kill me no matter what the circumstances are
This was incredible. Wish I was able to find the movie with subtitles so I could've watched it myself
