    Hi Linh and Emma! Tammie here. I have some good friends who decided to put ornaments and lights in a gorgeous bowl to replace the tree last year. It was really beautiful! I have always had a tiny tree because I've always lived tiny. This is my first larger home I've owned as a 52 yr old adult. LOL! I still pull out my little tree. I love it! It will go with us (I think...) when we retire and move into a life on wheels. I don't know. The older I get, the simpler I need things to be. Maybe I'll just go with the Christmas bowl idea. Looking forward to see what you two do! I'm sure it will be amazing!

    If you are going cruising in warmer climates just replace or repair A/C unit. And use space heaters. We have a couple on our boat and they work great..easily stowed, and they just plug in..if they tip over they shut off...much easier...they have a option to use 1500 w 900w or 500w. Only use about 13 amps on high.

    When I was looking at heating/cooling on my catamaran, I discovered that the reverse cycle units had very poor performance below 14C water temp. So that might be the problem. My choice was a 10kw diesel water heater by ESPAR (Eberspacher in UK) This then sends the water over the whole boat to small heater matrices. When demanded by thermostat (each separate matrix has its own) it has a fan to send the air through the matrix. This is more efficient, but a better reason is that the pipe for the hot water is only i inch pipe. so a single heater can do the whole boat. It also heats the water in the immersion heater, and a towel rail. It ran 24/7 for six months for over 5 years before I needed to do any significant maintenance.

    I think I would have left the 110vac lines, and install an GFI outlet in that box. Always handy to have an outlet in places like that, especially with the nice run of cables you already had in place. Nice job though!

You have incredible design and artistic skills; not to mention your boat is one of the cleanest and best organized I have ever seen. I also lay out my wiring in a similar fashion and neatness counts.
    Your wife and daughter are amazingly charming and cute. I wish you nothing but fun times and success in your future endeavors. I continue to watch YOUR channel as some of the others I have seen are becoming repetitive and let's just say not nearly as interesting. Kudos to the three of you.

    Your old unit either has a bad power supply, relay, capacitor or diode on the board. All easy fixes to diagnose with a multi meter. If it's a diode you should be able to see and smell if one is bad. For the power supply relay or capacitor a multi meter is best and these are all inexpensive repairs. If I were a betting man I'd put my money on the capacitor. Just be careful if you decide to replace it as it can give you one heck of a jolt. Always have family around when you do a capacitor replacement because it's hilarious if you do get shocked. You all ROCK and thanks for sharing as always.

      I agree, seems like an easy fix. But diagnosing electronics can be tricky when it is not "visually broken"
      I have a feeling he was waiting for an excuse to justify the upgrade and this was it.

      @@fmaz1952 it will be interesting to see what he installs whatever it is I'm sure it will be installed perfectly. As for an AC in Seattle I've always wondered if a recirculating pump running through an EVAP would work? After all the water temps I'm sure are cold enough year around that far north and you wouldn't need a condenser. Just a fan and a pump would do the trick.

    I have some familiarity with those style of heaters in semi trucks. They keep the bunks very warm, but sadly they are very cantankerous with bio diesel. Both B10 and B20 blends. Made our mechanics lose their minds keeping the burners clean and the safety mechanisms from constantly tripping. We found work arounds to ease the maintenance requirements, but we only used them in roughly ten hour intervals. I'd love to know how yours work over the longer stretches of run time.

    If the fan in the back of the unit does not get enough airflow to it, there will be soot buildup inside of the unit. You can open the unit and clean it out. The burning process inside it needs enough oxygen to burn clean. You need to let air come into the compartment where it is sitting.

    Hi OBL, how often do you check the gas on your Air condition system, and also how often do you check and clean out the distribution fan on the unit?
    I tends to clogged the fan blades with dust over time, and be careful with diesel heater, as it “can” slip exhaust fumes into the air and that might not be the most desirable outcome. Just a head up and hope you do regularly check ups on that sir. No criticism here, just a head up for you.

      It is a heat pump and I am sure it can be repaired. The Webasto is a great unit but runs on 12 amps of 110 power and we need two to heat the boat...that's 24 amps of juice! You could get a ”tree” like this www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80400867/ (or have Teal build it himself) to hang ornaments on. And once you are out sailing around the world buy a small item as a memory of each place you visit. I think that would make such a unique tree.

    You guys need a Marine wood stove, jantool , kimberly or cubic mini. Again i say a "wood" stove not gas.

    • @OnboardLifestyle
      @OnboardLifestyle  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Back in the 70's when I cruised on my father's trimaran we had a wood stove. We collected driftwood to burn and it worked awesome. The problem for us would be that we would have to install 3 fireplaces in order to get even heating throughout and our hulls are narrow so it could be difficult to walk by.

    The three dislikes on this video were from the goons that always hate on Teal's OCD installs, and they are angry because he didn't spend hours upside-down in the bilge at awkward angles in a contortionist position screaming for tools. I'm actually surprised they could even reach the mouse to click the thumbs down as they are probably still stuck behind a locker trying to sort out a rat's nest of wires that is wrapped around leaky plumbing.... oh wait, they must be laying face down on the chiropractor table, both thumbs are available!

      When Teal is done with a boat project it literally looks like a perfect factory install, i give him props for that , ocd or not...lol

    • @SteelDoesMyWill
      @SteelDoesMyWill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@patriotpioneer I would only counter by saying that Teal does a MUCH better job than most "factory" installs. The effort he puts into how equipment is installed in the first place is clear in this video when it was simple and straight forward to uninstall an entire system and then have a very clean slate to install the replacement. When I've done work on factory boats like Catalina and Hunter etc, the installed systems look 'ok' but leave much to be desired, plus they rarely ever have room for expansion or allow for ease of maintenance. Only on the most expensive custom yachts have seen installed systems done in the manner that Teal does. Now only if the Engineers at VW thought that way... oil changes on my TDI would be so much easier!
