    I'm an amateur leather smith so I may be able to answer some questions. The thing to remember about leather is that it's skin. And just like people, every cow is going to have different skin. And that skin is going to take the tanning process entirely differently, as well as dye and other types of treatments (like the foil embossing). I have a black one that is super suede like and scratches beautifully, and I have a camel that is the waxy texture. It depends on the fat content in the hide as it is tanned. What I've noticed about some of the browns is that they do warm up in tone over time as they patina- the scratches become a more reddish brown rather than the lighter yellowish color. That's very common with vegetable tanned leathers. So unless you have two notebooks from the same hide of leather, they're going to be very different. For me that's part of the fun of TRC, seeing how each piece of leather looks new and develops over time.

      Thank you so much for the info, I appreciate it! And WOW I am so jealous that you have a black one that is the soft suede texture, that’s the one last thing I’d love to add to my collection but I’m too afraid to buy another just in case it’s not that way 😂 I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a soft suede looking black. Because of course like I mentioned I personally prefer the soft ones, even though they’ll likely get smoother over time with use. But super interesting to know about the fat content because while it was clear they differed, I always wondered the reason why some of the textures were so different. Knowing nothing, I wondered if there was something different they did in the process to make the waxy ones the way they are. And also happy to hear that the brown will likely warm up over time!

      @@amandaleighplans I was VERY lucky to find my black one. There was a local stationery store near me that closed down a few years ago, and they were selling off all the floor models that you could handle before purchasing a boxed TN. This one has the old "Midori Made in Thailand" stamp on the back. I only paid like 5$ for it because it didn't have an elastic closure. I used the spare green one from my camel and it looks awesome.

      @@Cailyn_Amanda WOW you got to feel it first and only pay $5?! That’s amazing. I rarely use my black because it’s just not my favorite, but maybe one day I can get a soft one!

    UGH I love that Starbucks passport and Tokyo station!!!! I just unboxed my standard brown on my channel and I'm obsessed with TRC as a brand. Their fountain pens are my favorite as well, I just love their attention to detail

      I am soooo in love with these special editions too!! 😍 and now that I’m into the brand I’m so excited to see what new stuff they continue to come out with. I’m totally with you, the brand as a whole just gives me those amazing, rustic travel feels! 😍

      @@amandaleighplans I love how even the pens and the cotton bags are made to patina and show those scratches! It shows your journey and every piece will always be unique to the owner. I'm hoping they come out with something soon, I have the TRC bug now. I'm a total fan girl 🥰

    I loved to hear you ramble about these! I only have a few Traveler’s Company covers but am definitely looking to buy another so it’s helpful to hear about them. I have a smooth, waxy blue regular, a very fuzzy camel passport, and a kind of in between brown passport (which is my favorite). I love the in between texture the most, though I did end up deciding to use the fuzzy camel passport as a wallet, hoping it’ll get shiny faster in my bag. Next, I’m eyeing a brown regular size and I’m thinking about having it customized by Baum-Kuchen!

    I have 6 Traveler's Notebook in Regular and 2 Traveler's Notebook in Passport, all bought from a qualified shop that sells Traveler's Company original company. I have 2 blue (both aged beautifully and turn green), 4 camel, 1 brown and 1 black. All came out from an original package and everything. Been said, I see different in leather. I would have got another brown, this time in passport, but I'm too afraid the leather will feel waxed and with stiff texture to it. It happened to me once and I replaced the cover, I could not stand the feeling of that waxed leather. I replaced it with a different color (had a blue and replaced it with a camel) and didn't buy any other color ever since (my last purchases were Camel). I am happy with what I have, they're all as smooth as your camel on this video, but I agree, they are times the leather is not as smooth but rather stiff and waxed and that is not a nice texture to have. I am happy with my collection (you can see a video I've made about them on my channel) and right now, I'm not planning to buy more. I don't want to be disappointed if I get a brown passport with waxed leather, so I am keeping what I have, using them everyday and enjoying their lovely textures. But I just wanted to say hi and say that I really understand your feelings regarding the leather, it is always a risk, true. BTW, I also make chunky journals and what helped me is expanding the elastic bend to the maximum- The leather is not harmed and nor the notebook. I really enjoy your video, Amanda!

    What do you do with the replaceable notebooks when they are done? Take them out and keep them?

    • @amandaleighplans
      @amandaleighplans  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep!! i like to keep my old inserts to look back on, so i just store them and replace them with a fresh insert. some of my inserts are just collages but some include travel memories and such so i like to keep them all!
