100% agree. If one truly has pure interest and passion for time pieces with disregard for market conditions, then the interest and joy of collecting or just admiring these human made wonders will not be diminished. On the contrary, the talk or thought of market downturn should raise the excitement level as these objects of admiration and desire become more affordable. Well done!

People become enthralled with everything surrounding watch culture and often forget why they got into watches in the first place, simple enjoyment, appreciation of a timepiece.

I've lost a lot of interest in many watch channels because I've noticed they will never constructively criticize a watch or will only do so with a passing comment about a trivial issue they have with the model they are showcasing. I think the reason many channels refuse to give honest evaluations is they don't want to jeopardize relationships with watch brands or dealers that loan them watches....sad. Unfortunately, I will only learn about the drawbacks from a model in comment sections. I'll give an example; I've come so close to buying a JLC sector dial Master Geographic and not one online review ever mentioned that the crown on the left side which changes the city of the second time zone will actually unscrew off the watch if turned the wrong direction....this watch is $9k! I only learned this bc an honest owner mentioned this flaw in the comment section of a Tim Mosso review. That revelation really soured my opinion on a lot of influencers, unfortunately.

That is such a good point you’ve brought up! I can say I would feel the exact same way as you if I trusted an opinion on a watch I wanted to buy and realised too late there is a significant flaw or defect

Watch channels few years ago used to be real reviews with real watches not pictures or videos by the brands ! People that like watches go to an AD and buy what they like and first research on the official website’s some don’t mention all specs but better go and try it in flesh no cash needed for be spent plus if starting counting how many so called watches experts channels are in TH-cam (not paid to say this is good bla bla ) I bet it’s 90% or even more ! Already keep away and need to unsubscribe all of them some even on begging were very good and educational channels now it’s all about cashhhh in !
Hope you @Michaela have good content and try be honest follow good examples better say true then being controlled by some brands that don’t have any quality!
      Obrigado from Portugal!

I hope, maybe the sooner people get back to appreciating a beautiful present or purchase of a beautiful watch/necklace and maybe future heirloom.
And not thinking how much will this be worth in a couple of years!!
You can’t put a price on a special purchase for a loved one or even for yourself, because whatever the cost may have been high or low.
To think about future value is thoughtless!!

You are absolutely right on many counts. The problem is that many users are no longer able to think for themselves. They'd rather leave that to their watch gurus on TH-cam. But I still think that anyone can spoil the hobby of “watches” themselves. On the other hand, I think that TH-camrs are also in a dilemma. Because if they don't talk shit anymore, then they don't know what to talk about anymore and are quickly forgotten. For me, watches have always had something magical. For many people today, the magic has been completely lost or was never there.

I think the biggest problem I have with many watch channels, with many specific single-pursuit channels for that matter, is that some creators achieve success then end up turning their successful formula upside-down. I can think of several channels (including watch channels) where the creator clearly fell victim to the idea that the channel was about the creator and not the topic. For the most part, I visit a watch channel to see great watches presented by an entertaining and engaging creator, not to see a specific person who just happens to be talking about watches, and inevitably ends up talking about them less and less. It stops being “look at this great watch” and becomes more “look how great I am with this watch.” A number of channels that I once followed faithfully are now largely unwatchable because of this shift.
I don’t know if this makes sense to anyone or not, but I’m not the best at explaining things. This isn’t a criticism that applies to creators who present a wider range of topics, such as yourself or Antonio at Real Men Real Style for example, but only to channels that stick to one specific topic.

I know what you mean, and the same thing happens on car channels. There's one channel in particular that I used to enjoy watching years ago, but as the host got more and more successful, it turned more into vlogs about himself. The cars essentially became bit characters used for click bait. Sad.

My favourite watch brands: Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget and Breguet. Unfortunately very hated brands by many so called watch enthusiasts who probably will never invest some money buying some quality shoes, a nice winter coat or pair of decent denim...
Rolex is completely ruined for me by the social stigma of flex culture and by the type DOUCHEBAG of the watch community.
Having said that I am aware of Rolex highly quality and history when men wear wearing decent clothes and not Balenciaga $1000 hoodies 😅

The channels lose their focus on why they like watches. Once they have a following the channels want to profit from it.

Nothing to worry about. Its natural for one's obsession or interest about wrist watches to ebb and flow over time. One can aways take a break from the hobby because various channels or creators get burned out trying to produce interesting content. Its not for me to judge others but rather take TH-camrs with a time grain of salt. Thanks for the video.

What a stroke of luck! This video appeared out of nowhere but definitely goes somewhere!
What a new and refreshing way to approach and help create-at least for me-a better perception of watches.
Besides, you look like a real Princess from the most beautiful Fairy Tale! 👸🌷
When someone asks me why I should get this or that expensive watch when a quartz watch or a smartwatch is more precise and perhaps has more useful functions, then I answer because I love micromechanics, state-of-the-art technology, and the sense of achievement.
I never buy a watch based on the supposed status it will bring because then the options will be narrowed to the most recognizable brands for the general public: Rolex, Patek...but this will prevent me from discovering many extraordinary brands like Kari Voutilainen, and it also keeps me away from second tiers like Longines.
And yes, there are channels that speak about watches as investments like a sort of stock option and pretend to have the crystal ball about what is and will be going on in the market.
I never see a watch as an investment; I prefer to look into the brand's heritage.
Many congratulations on the fantastic content!
And, you can read for all of us the most boring book and it will be mesmerezing😊❤
    Kindest greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽!

The people who talk about market trends and resale value are just being honest. Watch collecting is not a cheap hobby. The funds have to come from somewhere. If someone can make their watch hobby pay for itself why not? It beats killing weekends at a second job. Watches are an accessory. People's tastes and needs change. A dress watch that looks great with a suit is worth it if you wear suits all day. If a new job is more business casual or is work from home part of the time someone might want a different watch. People have children. A Cartier Tank is no match for parents chasing toddlers. People have to hustle to make money. People's tastes change. Thats just life.
