Remember when the gaming industry at large said cRPGs were dead cause noone would ever buy em anymore? 1.5 millions sounds like a lot more than 0 to me.
The AAA say they're dead, because they can't sink the millions of dollars into the title. 1.5 million players is not enough for them to turn a profit when they spend 200 million on a title. BUT for smaller teams, the indies, the sub AAA developers and the like, that 1.5 million is more than enough to keep the lights on. It's kinda like why a giant electronics company like Intel won't mass produce basic electronic components - the amount of money they'll receive isnt enough to justify the expense to thier shareholders. But smaller companies, ones without or few shareholders, have no such restriction.
Yeah, Pillars of Eternity, the Shadowrun series, Wasteland 2, the Divinity series (just to name a few) are definitely more like Elder Scrolls than a late 90s/early 00s Baldur's Gate or Fallout.

The fact that Unturned got to be on the list makes me legitimately happy. I remember the guy who made it back when he was making betas on unity, or even further back when he was competing for views on Roblox. Back when many of the mechanics were split between two games, Deadzone a zombie/pvp survival game, and Into the Frost a more hardcore crafting and survival game. He's come so far since then, and it's one of the most inspiring success stories for an indie dev that I've ever heard of.
Really happy about Civ 5 still being popular. A non-gamer friend of mine decided start playing Civ and asked for my advice. But now he really wants to have a multiplayer match with me because he wants to destroy me as Gandhi (my friend is Indian btw) :p
in some ways yes and in others no, civ 5 has a much better combat system, no more stacking hundreds of units in one tile and bashing it out, it also has a better culture system, though at the sacrifice of a more in depth economy system, civ 5 also has its religion system, which is cool in multiplayer, overall i miss expansions like beyond the sword and such, along with the unique scenarios, though the smokey skies scenario more than makes up for it
It is a matter of preference. The Civ4 battle system was not just stacking as their were also anti-stack weapons, and the AI was much better at using that combat rather than the silly cramped combat of Civ5.
too soon T~T although i wouldn't give up hopes, im pretty sure at least two potential half life three's were in development, but died out. and im pretty sure epistle 3 was released specifically to give a potential hl3 freedom in writting
Civ 6 streamedlined too much. But the faith mechanic was interesting. Then again, ever Civ game makes major changes. It's a series where it's perfectly acceptable to play the older titles because each Civ is essentially a unique game. Personally, my favorites are Alpha Centauri and Civ IV.
Seriously this. I want the complexity of Civ IV, with the layout of Civ V and the graphics of Civ VI. Giving me the graphics of Civ VI but the mechanics of a mobile game is annoying as hell.
I would argue the changes with civ 5 were far more dramatic than between any of the previous civs. Moving to hex might be the biggest visual change, but single units per hex changed the game tremendously. Certainly it beats out the changes between civ 1 and civ 2 where the only really impactful changes were hit points/firepower and engineers.
My favorite Steam game is HOI4. I usually play as the Soviet Union, Germany, Tuvalu (I surprisingly do well invading other South Pacific nations), Nauru, and a fascist Argentina (which I'm usually unsuccessful in invading the Falklands).
Avery Lopez-Baines yeah m8. Especially with all the mod support like Kaiserreich, Great War, Iron Curtain, Führerreich and Millenium Dawn and Road to 56. Virginia Country home (I don‘t know the official name but it is just a meme mod anyway :D) Btw i also love Europa Universalis ;)
I concur.. .though in fairness, I have yet to beat any of the ones I actually own, on any platform. Quest For Glory, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango...all these really great titles are victims of my ADHD. (I'm not being hyperbolic, I literally have that) It's sad because I WANT to get into them, but after a while not finding anything, or dying over and over again because i keep not figuring out how to combat, I just...let the game drift out of my consciousness until the next time I see an "Adventure games are awesome!" thing and want to instinctively agree.
I think one big problem for me at least, is that most adventure games fall between impossible dumb puzzles or the telltale series that really don't have much of a challenge to them. Puzzle agent was one I really liked though.
Don't be too sad. Most adventure games can be bought on other online platforms like GoG, so I suspect that a lot of those numbers are split. Not to mention that they are often cheaper to make, so they don't need huge numbers to keep a studio afloat and cranking them out.
Trebax278 Agreed. You need to find that balance, and a net total of zero modern games do. TBH I also think you need to give the modern player more solid interaction than point and click, perhaps even fusing it together with certain walking sim mechanics, because point and click is quite literally the least engaging mechanic I can name. The two genres merged into one will most definitely do better fiscally than the sum of their parts.
Just wanted to say that this episode sounded great. I don't know if you changed your recording settings or just how you're speaking/enunciating... But it sounds a lot better than some previous episodes. Less "screamy" and less "harsh" sounds that seemed to bother me in the past. Interesting info and good episode.
I'm very glad that the 'exuberance' of the speaker has been tuned down a little, makes it much more relaxing to watch and gives me some more time to actually reflect on what's being said. Well done guys, interesting stuff with this raw data.
The part about survival game players play more then one survival game is true I think. I play Ark, Space engineers, unturned, minecraft, and farsky. All survival games
Logan Schlosser I totally agree. The point is that they scratch slightly different itches, like Space Engineer allows me to build something in free space and than explore something with that, while 7Days brings you the horror of standing alone/in a small group against the world and your own hunger. You have only the safe space you create, not like dying light. And Rust is fun for a limited time
Space Engineers is more sandbox than survival. Wolves and spiders are easily taken care of with a turret or two. Oxygen is easily taken care since you just need a bit of ice for a ton of oxygen. Really Minecraft is more survival than Space Engineers, but even it I would argue is still a sandbox.
A Civilization game? What you meant to say was: In which game do you plot to murder your wife so you can marry your half-sister that is the second in line to inherit Byzantium, and then kill the Emperor and his heir so your son becomes the next in the line of succession to the title. A title you want because it will make you powerful enough to erase from existence the dynasty you have a feud with after a duke of said family revoked a barony of your count grandfather.
Also, CK2 is like... Paradox's little baby xD It has been widely its most popular title for a long time. EU4 is fun and quite popular too, but CK2 had already established itself by then.
I'm glad strategy games (one of my favorite genres, especially grand strategy) aren't flagging. CK2 is a game I really want right now. Good to see the genre going strong.
No mention of Visual Novels? They are more popular than a lot of people think. Of course Humble Bundles and similar water the numbers down quite a bit.
The problem with visual novels is that there are too many to go round, and most are terribly low quality. It's harder to Wade through the mess than it is for even other widely oversaturated genres, sending games like VA-11 Hall-A into permanent undeserved obscurity.
Just A User Danganranpa, Doki Doki Literature Club (free! But very dark and the first two hours are misleading), VA-11 Hall-A, several really raunchy titles like Hunie Pop, Steins;Gate, but I'm not a big fan of the genre so that's all I got.
Just A User Okay the best explanation would be to discuss the origins. For the longest time it was basically just a long string of dialogue you clicked through, with character portraits across a generic background. Hence the name - you were essentially reading a novel, which is why during the genre's outset there were constant accusations that visual novels aren't "real" games - there was no challenge or fail state. The first innovation was choices, like a choose your own adventure novel. Even today the appeal of many VNs (Visual Novels) is the many endings you can get. In many cases they're mostly or all "good endings" that don't reprimand the player for their choices, and it's literally all just personal choice when you end up. Not long after they got more interactive by way of a subgenre of visual novels that draws ire from moral arbiters and internet trolls to this day - the "dating sim" (not all of which are VNs, but which definitely originated there). The genre added a series of social mechanics to the genre as a whole, making them more "game-y" overall. This led to the very, very interactive modern visual novels like Danganranpa. Also good to note. Since the dating sim subgenre also came out of Japan, and since it was so easy to make anime styled character portraits even if you had a very Western style of writing, VNs suddenly got a second undeserved bad rep as "nothing but anime games", which of course is totally false but still persists due to how many of the worst visual novels over-use the worst of anime tropes. Then finally came Steam, which led to a lot of experimentation in a short time. Which leads to the diverse and unique genre of today. At its core a visual novel is a game where you cycle through dialogue with characters, usually represented by a character portrait juxtaposed across a static background image, with dialogue choices and social mechanics thrown in leading to some challenge and often differing endings. It's a genre looked down on even more than Walking Sims, but it has so much more potential.
AuraCreed Uhh, this was a really bad comparison. I have only 100hrs and I'm loving the game, but it will only be fun for those who accepts the grind. It's just too much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Currently, my top 3 favorite games on Steam are “From the Depths”, “Terra Tech”, and “Avorion” What’s common between these games are building and fighting foes with your creations
i'm not surprised. ck2 and eu4 have play periods that cover centuries, and allow for a tremendous diversity of player goals. hoi4 has a similar learning cliff, but kind of feels like you're wearing a straightjacket if you're coming from the other games.
"For a few short glorious days" Wait, so this achievement counting technique was taken down already? Damn. I really hope Steam provides an API for research.
I released a small free game on the Windows Store, google play AND steam... By the end of the first week it had ~10000 downloads on steam, 3 downloads on the Windows Store and 5 downloads on the Play store. I'm amazed at how much stronger steam is to distribute games compared to the other platforms.
Hello, survival player here! You are close to the mark on these types of games. I have all the titles mention plus some on Steam. I am currently trying to master One Hour, One Life which is one of the most difficult survival games I have ever played! The big appeal, at least for me, is discovery of the world, recipe learning, and complex decision making. Of course, all games like this will run their course. Eventually I know all the recipes, have the world memorized, and my continued gameplay is not hinged on my choices simply because of my advancement in game. This also tends to draw me to games like Stardew Valley for the same resource collecting/crafting features, though it is frustrating that I can't truly died in that game from realistic things like starvation or dropping down holes.
As an avid survival game player I can see the trend you talk about. I mainly play Ark but I’ve also put respectable time into Rust, Conan Exiles and Citadel: Forged with Fire. I’ve also played many others but not for very long. This is the same for my core friend group, we all play together.
My friends and I played both Ark and 7 Days to Die. Three reasons we branched off into Ark: (1) whenever 7 Days to Die received a massive update, it tended to break for 2-3 weeks, (2) 7DtD got boring during the long times between patches, & (3) because saves tended to be broken when new updates occurred, if we were close to an announced patch, we didn't feel like wasting time on something that would be lost in a month. So, we turned to other survival games. During one of those times, Ark had a sale.
2:01 "...Second, that Free-To-Play really isn't that dominant on Steam. Only 3 of the top 10 are F2P." Hang on... TF2, Unturned, Warframe, Paladins are all in the top 10. *_That's 4 Free-To-Play games._* Include Dota 2, which would undoubtedly on this list if it had achievements, and that's half the entire list. I mean, even if you don't count Dota 2, 4/10 is still a substantial amount, considering the variety of games on the market. ...Either way, you're wrong; there's at least 4, not 3, so I'm right, therefore I get to feel superior for correcting some random internet video, end of story.
I didn't count TF2 as free because a _lot_ of those numbers come from before it was F2P. Originally that caveat was in the video but it just dragged down the pacing too much. Awesome catch though! I totally agree f2p is significant, it's just not 'dominant', which 3-4 years ago everyone was saying it was going to be. -JP
Extra Credits Fair enough. I've suggested adding an annotation to deter future nitpickers like me, but since TH-cam has deemed itself unworthy of such things... I guess... idk, leaving a pin would feel too extreme... Whatever. Your point was made here; 'nuff said.
No need to pin... the dominant vs significant thing was pretty clear in the video. As a rule of thumb, you don’t make changes thinking on nitpickers. Great video. Would love a version discussing some data on indie games
Fantastic video. Very eye opening. This provided great industry insight into game genres I enjoy as well as player base numbers I wasn't fully aware of. I will definately share this vid and rewatch it in the future! Keep up the great work Extra Credits!
Again, you have provided the kind of content that I come to Extra Credits for. And in this case, I had no idea I wanted to know until you let me know that I could know.
I'm a bit confused, are those numbers based on the number of players that have bought a steam game with achievements, or the number of player that obtained at least one achievement in a steam game ? Because that could make some difference, personnally I'm an absolute fan of Paradox games, and yet, I have no achievements in any of them, despite having sunk hundreds of hours in them, for the simple reason that I never play ironman and have a tendency to use a lot of mods. I don't think on the grand scale it'll make an enormous difference, but still.
So to explain how these numbers were found out, do you know the global achievement stats screen (library > view all achievements > view global achievement stats)? It shows for each achievement the percentage of how many players that played the game got it. These percentages are rounded to 1 decimal place here, but a couple weeks ago, someone found a way to get these numbers before they got rounded down (with like, 16 decimal places or something) (this has since been fixed). From there, you could accurately determine what the original player numbers were before they got turned into percentages, so 100% is obviously the number of all players who ever played the game, including you, even if you didn't get any achievements. Hope that clears it up, the video did a bad job explaining this.
One thing to note about all of this is that this is ONLY about Steam and says nothing for other distribution platforms like GOG or Humble which also have DRM Free copies of many of the games mentioned outside of the top 11. I personally have been boycotting Steam for several years now and don't do any kind of game tracking so I've put a lot of time in to games that has no tracking data of my play sessions which I'm sure is the case for many others and also one of the reasons I don't like steam as having what games I played public to the whole world is not something I care to have out there as playing games is not a huge social thing for me as it seems to be with a lot of younger players. About the only multiplayer games I've played in the last oh 10 years or so has been Minecraft and very recently Splatoon 2 but beyond that it's been all single player gaming for me. Anyway just wanted to throw my own two sense in to this. Reply if you are like me and also at least try not to use Steam if you can help it. It would be nice to know I'm not the only one out there even though I know I'm not just not sure how many of you there are like me.
I have ETS2 and ATS (which is Euro Truck Simulator but in the USA, of course) in my Steam account, the numbers of hours I have on those games beats the my other 3 most played games by some margin. It's interesting to thing, a game about driving a truck, obeying the law, delivering a cargo, picking another cargo and driving to the next city, which sounds dull and boring but it can also be very relaxing. I'm not a truck enthusiastic, but its cool to drive on my commute and look at the trucks and say (wait a minute, I "drove" one just like that). When I bring up the fact that my most played game on Steam is about driving trucks, people seem to get wrong idea. But I can assure that is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences I had playing video-games!
I'm a little surprised Guns of Icarus didn't come up at all. It's one of those games that seems like EVERYONE has played it, if only for a single, brief session. Maybe that's not long enough to earn an achievement from it?
I've never even heard of it, and I am on Steam all the time, I currently have a library of over 400 games, and I comb the store looking for new, interestingly-reviewed games during the sales... I think you are biased because probably your friends on Steam like many of the same games as you and so it seems like most people YOU play with or know have tried it. Clearly whatever this game is, it is something which Steam does not think I would like, so it never shows it to me in ads or the genre lists I tend to look at. For me, the game which "everybody has played" recently is Slay the Spire... however, maybe this game doesn't really register as popular to you from what you see, or maybe you haven't even heard of it? Different strokes I guess.
Good thing that many people are like me and prefer a console version instead of dealing with steam. Not that i dislike steam but picking it up on the PS4 is just easier and my PC is too slow.
Sorry but I am not sure what about “picking it up on the PS4” is easier. Steam has millions of games, which often go on sale for pretty cheap, as opposed to on console where they can offer some deals if you subscribe to their paid services. I honestly don’t see how it is a good thing people prefer consoles seeing that Steam is easy to use with lots of benefits.
You can run into some serious trouble with drivers sometimes, Windows can be a pain. I like buying CE's. If your PC is 6+ years old some new games are impossible to play. Downloading can take forever if your internet is slow, same goes for PSN but on Steam you are pretty forced to buy digital. And my most important point. I can plug the PS4 in and out in seconds and move to another room.
@Paulo Miguel I have no idea how people can play on laptops, it felt wrong back when i had a laptop. I'll get a new beastly PC next year with Zen 2 and a next gen Nvidia graphics card and ofc a new monitor so i can use the power.
You feel a lot more chill now than you were before, Matt. Happy to see you settling in. :) This is fascinating...if somewhat problematic. Paradoxically, data doesn't always represent facts, at least not when it only comes from one source. Still, it's neat to see Skyrim, in all its various permutations, at #11. I am sad about Stardew Valley, but that's just because when I like a game, I sort of glom onto it and become overly attached. I did the same thing with Last Dream (recommended to me by this very channel, thanks guys!) and its sequel, and I'd be surprised if those broke into five digits of players.
the survival game genre part is true in my end. No matter if it's free or cost a bit of cash, I would desperately try to play any type of survival game as the feeling of starting from scratch and making your way to the top in different ways (as the survival games try their best to be different from their competitors by gameplay or theme). I've played a lot of survival games (yes, including Minecraft) and it always give me a sense of satisfaction on how well I do and how fearful I become. Also, for that shot on Wallpaper Engine having Achievements, I can confirm that as they have a secret achievement called "K0n4m1"; an achievement where you type in the Konami code once Wallpaper Engine opens up. The achievement however would only give you extra themes and settings to the Engine's application window.
I love seeing people digging into data sets like these. That said, anecdotally, I abandoned Steam a long time ago (mostly in favour of GoG). Also, I've always been more partial to single-player games and as a parent with a busy job, I tend to game predominately on mobile and console games. I only mention this as I think adventure games and similar genres find much greater traction on these types of platforms.
For reference, Spain's population as of 2018 is around 47 million. And fun fact, CS is crazy popular in that country. It's probably THE most popular eSport over there, and definitely the game that pushed the scene the most. So the comparison is quite funny.
Not-Dan is doing pretty well for himself these days. Pretty interesting video. I can personally attest to liking more than one survival game, like Don't Starve, Unturned, Subnautica, and 7 Days to Die. I'm not too surprised about adventure games being below other, more action-oriented tites. I love adventure games, but they're not always popular. It would be interesting to find out how many of these games are grouped together, based on whether they were indie titles, made or published by bigger studios, or made by maybe one person, like RPG Maker games.

Fernbus is about to get a spike in players.
It only has a 50% positive review, so you do you.
But also only 30€. That's low enough for many to just try. Even more now that Steam refunds.
prezadent1 I don’t have a steam account lol. Of the thousands of people that watch this video there has to be some that try out the game.

Single unit hexs turned me off 5 but strangely the kinda worked in 6. I think they modified their map generation to have less chokepoints.
My favorite is Civ 2.
I keep a win 98 vm just so I can fire up Civ I for windows on occasion. Still the only one I ever grew attached to.
Virginia Country home (I don‘t know the official name but it is just a meme mod anyway :D)
Btw i also love Europa Universalis ;)
You're only a true Hoi4 player if you did a world conquest as Ironman Liberia
Rlly? Git gud scrub, and do a Tannu Tuva world Conquest.
Avery Lopez-Baines yo fellow hoi4 player I love the game as well
HOI 4 memin intensified
CS:GO is so popular because it’s become a way of life in eastern Europe and a part of Slavic life.

That adventure game stat makes me sad. I really like adventure games, and I hope they don't die a second death. :(
I concur..
.though in fairness, I have yet to beat any of the ones I actually own, on any platform. Quest For Glory, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango...all these really great titles are victims of my ADHD. (I'm not being hyperbolic, I literally have that)
It's sad because I WANT to get into them, but after a while not finding anything, or dying over and over again because i keep not figuring out how to combat, I just...let the game drift out of my consciousness until the next time I see an "Adventure games are awesome!" thing and want to instinctively agree.
On the bright side they seemed to survive the first death so it can't be that bad.
3:49 Did I just hear a 'heck' and NOT see a snek?
oh no
Glad I'm not the only one who felt that void.
I was about to comment the same. Come on, new Dan
It seems like Heck Snake was inseparably bound to a specific Dan
A Handsome Fridge I saw Heck Snek in at least one of the post-Dan videos.
"the list goes like this: 1. team fortress 2" ok you can stop right there thats all that really matters
i am legally forced to agree
Yep, definitely the right decision to mention the number 11:D
Ironic, considering the game was released on 11-11-11.
the Fernbus sim dosn't surprise me. A bunch of German Letsplayer LOVE these mundane Sims. Some of them just ironically, but it still boosts sells.

"More people have played no man's sky on stream than nier automata"
Heart attack.
RIP.
I literally backed awayfrom the monitor in horror for a second there
played not liked
Nier is newer and still 60 bucks USD
And yet more people who have played Nier have seen evidence of other players than anyone in no man's sky.
Also, remember No Man's Sky had a lot more hype upon release. That's bound to inflate its numbers.
""less people have played undertale on steam, then goat sim" This might be my favourite fact
6:45 I was like: "... I've never heard of 'Live in Spain'."
It was well worth including #11.
I'm very glad that the 'exuberance' of the speaker has been tuned down a little, makes it much more relaxing to watch and gives me some more time to actually reflect on what's being said. Well done guys, interesting stuff with this raw data.
3:51 Wait, where was heck snek?! Someone dropped the ball! Or the legless green slithering thing.
oh phew I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed, and was upset by this.
The sneks might not have achievements....
I'm just glad Space Engineers made the video. :)
And Rust is fun for a limited time
The 2 Steam games I've logged the most hours into are Don't Starve and Rimworld.
Lemmie see... Terraria, Minecraft, Starbound, 7 Days.... Does Fallout 4 count? It does have a survival mode...
Yeah, I play Minecraft and ARK but I will definetly buy Subnautica. I'm just waiting for it to have multiplayer so I can play it with a friend.
"You cannot get ye flask". I'm loving the Homestar Runner references!
And "cheap as free"? That's an advanced one!
Hooray CK2, looks like all that time played into it wasn't just wasted. (also how did EU4 not get played as long)
CK2 got a huge boost from the free giveaway of the game they had that one weekend.
Yea, I was really happy when he mentioned it! It’s one of the best games out there
In what other game can you have an Aztec Viking take over Egypt and then get China to Invade the Holy Roman Empire?
For me there are more visual novels put out onto Steam than most people are able to play and try out.
The problem with visual novels is that there are too many to go round, and most are terribly low quality. It's harder to Wade through the mess than it is for even other widely oversaturated genres, sending games like VA-11 Hall-A into permanent undeserved obscurity.
Could you give me an example of a good representative of that genre. Even after googling it, I can not get a sense of that genre.
Proud of making CK2 show up there :)
Warframe ❤❤❤
I must say operator your chosen warframe suits you Haaa Haaaa
For a TripleA game that let you play for free is good, but, grinding is what I not in choice for....
@Rodigo Duterte Name a game similar to Warframe that doesn't require some form of grinding. Bonus points if it's F2P.
I know i'm not the sane one here but in a lot of game i like farming. I play a loot of Disgaea/Warframe so i'm happy to see numbers gets bigger
AuraCreed Uhh, this was a really bad comparison. I have only 100hrs and I'm loving the game, but it will only be fun for those who accepts the grind. It's just too much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wait, so this achievement counting technique was taken down already?
CK2, we just need to get rid of the Gavelkind and we get get better
3:56 This bus simulator can fit so many players in it.
This was a fun little episode, would appreciate more like this every once in a while! :)
"tf2 is dying"
number one: team fortress 2
Total players not current players
They are talking about my baby: titanfall 2. :(
TF2 never dies
As an avid survival game player I can see the trend you talk about. I mainly play Ark but I’ve also put respectable time into Rust, Conan Exiles and Citadel: Forged with Fire. I’ve also played many others but not for very long. This is the same for my core friend group, we all play together.
I’m calling it now. #11 is obviously Skyrim
well played
Hax
#1 - Team Fortress 2
#2 - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
As a proud player of both these games, I needn’t hear anymore of this video.
A public Half-Lief-3 joke?! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE>!?
Half Life 3 will now be delayed by 30 years!
well hello there
My friends and I played both Ark and 7 Days to Die.
Only 3 of the top 10 are F2P."
Hang on... TF2, Unturned, Warframe, Paladins are all in the top 10. *_That's 4 Free-To-Play games._*
Include Dota 2, which would undoubtedly on this list if it had achievements, and that's half the entire list.

Is it just my imagination, or have there been a lot more sponsored videos since the change in host?
Skyrim. Released on 11-11-11, on spot 11!
I was saying, "Where is Fortnite?"
Then remembered, "Oh! Fortnite is on epic games."
Fortnite bad
Wiksolop72 yeah.....
That steam card farmer bot did his job
It has a set of incredibly easy tutorial achievements, so I would say most who have played earned at least 1.
I have it, because it was free for a day or so, but have no interest in playing it. Only 5 out of my about 70 friends even own it.
This channel always finds a way to get me in the mood for Civ or Total War.

Of course. Valve games are in the list, and I played a few on the list: TF2, CSGO, L4D2 and CSS. Glad that you guys can come across this kinda data!
Good thing that many people are like me and prefer a console version instead of dealing with steam.
Not that i dislike steam but picking it up on the PS4 is just easier and my PC is too slow.
S0oo And it's waaay too easy to get distracted on PC by everything else.
Get a better laptop/pc.
@Paulo Miguel
I have no idea how people can play on laptops, it felt wrong back when i had a laptop.

You feel a lot more chill now than you were before, Matt. Happy to see you settling in. :)
This is fascinating...if somewhat problematic.
This is the only Extra Credits video I will ever downvote. Please don’t remind us about Half-Life 3

I love my big AAA games, but Euro Truck Simulator holds a special place in my heart, I come back to it time and time again. Happy to see I'm not alone
the survival game genre part is true in my end.
Worth noting is that CS:Source comes bundled for free with many Valve games, and Left 4 Dead 2 has been given out for free on a number of occasions.
For reference, Spain's population as of 2018 is around 47 million.
And fun fact, CS is crazy popular in that country. It's probably THE most popular eSport over there, and definitely the game that pushed the scene the most. So the comparison is quite funny.
Tf2 came out in 2007 and it still has so many players
Are you sure the ending music is Penguin Cap? It sounds like a SAVE the world remix
Gotta love how that "next big thing" box just loomed into view. :)
Thank you so much for talking about Civ! Probably my favorite game series on Steam and outdates probably 99% of every other game on Steam.
