Daniel and Carrie Floyd are amazing people we’ve been so proud and happy to work with for all these many years (since 2008!). We can’t wait to see what they work on next! (You'll still be enjoying Dan's classic cartoon voice in pre-recorded episodes airing next month, like our next Extra History series!) We're also excited to show you all the cool projects we have coming up in the rest of 2018, starting with the introduction of Matt you'll see next week in Extra Credits. We'll still keep making the videos you love (and then some). twitter.com/ExtraCreditz/status/999341691315335174
OH MAH GOD it's my other favorite game dev channel!!!!!! #nerdgasamconfirmed #whensthenextgamemakerstoolkitcomingout #serioslyIneedthatlikerightnow lol all we need now is Hbomberguy to comment and we get the perfect trifecta
I'm gonna miss you, high pitched Dan. You've been a real inspiration to me as a creator, and hearing your voice in videos has been a regular fixture of my life for years now. But hopefully this will mean regular-pitched Dan can get some much-needed rest. I still don't understand how you managed to keep up all these series while working a regular job. And it goes without saying, I'm really looking forward to Extra Frames.
Normally I hate the game for randomly selecting our species and genetic traits for us before we spawn (think of all the poor players stuck as redwoods for hundreds of years). But the developers probably knew that if I had to choose from a list of 8.7 million species, I would have never started playing in the first place.
I've been watching Extra Credits since the beginning, so it legitimately hurts that I'll no longer have your pitched up voice in my ear any more, Dan. Best of luck on your next project, and thank you!
We'll miss you, Dan and Carrie. Been listening to Dan's sped-up voice for so many years, I've lost track. It won't be the same without you, Dan, and I have no idea how things will be different without Carrie. Best of luck in that "next adventure", wherever it takes you!
Dan: announces his leave with Carrie This is where the real men cried. For real. The notice hit me like a thousand bricks. I'll still gladly follow the show weekly for as long as it keeps running, but you take a big piece of all of us with you, Dan. You will obviously be missed.
Aww, Dan is leaving? This is sad. Well good luck to you sir and thank you for for years of education and entertainment. My whole youtube career, which changed a lot of things in my life, was inspired by your work. I just wanted you to know that this project of yours touched and changed many lives across the world. Lives in far lands from you, lives you may never meet or hear from, but make them better your videos sure did. To this day I keep repeating “fail faster” to myself whenever I struggle creatively. Thank you for everything Dan - and to James as well. I hope and pray for you to have wonderful life and career.
Been a fan since the Escapist days so I'm no stranger to great talent having to leave the channel, but y'all still did amazing work and will be missed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for all the amazing content!
I've been watching since the Escapist days too, and never missed a single episode! I've learned so much over the years from these guys, and it's so sad to see Dan go.. ;-; This is the end of an era and that is always sad. But it's also the start of a new one, and I look forward to seeing Matt take up the baton =3
Ladies and Gents.... or lady and gent.... never mind, thanks. From the bottom of our hearts, for opening our minds and being honest even when it wouldn't pay to be. Extra Credits is the gold standard I point people to when I want them to understand that games are more than just a game and that there are a thousand factors in play when one is made. Keep rocking the web and we'll be watching.
Dan, if you're leaving, that makes this my last chance to say this: Thank you. Because of this series, I had the courage to try and become a game designer. Not video games, mind you - I've been working on a card game actually - but hey, a game is a game. It's been a long, tough journey, but it's going pretty well so far, and I'd never have thought that I could without the lessons and inspiration from this series. So thank you. I'm sad to see you go, but I wish you the best in life.
What card game? I am hoping to start doing table top game design one day, and this has been the best discussion of game design theory that I have ever seen.
TheMarioaddict I, three, would like to know these things. And are you going to be at any game conventions, either for your game or for yourself? Particularly any in California.
Dan I've been here since I was about 13 and now I'm going to University soon and very doubtfully you'll read this in particular but I hope you know that you and this channel has been a big part of forming what I want to do and my maturity for the past 5 years. You'll sincerely and actively be missed
This is JUST what I was going to say! Extra Credits has shaped so much of how I think, and my ideas of design, and especially of the value of games as a valid and fulfilling medium of expression, as an art, and as just important. You really hammered down that games are valuable and worth thinking deeply about. Heck, not just games! Animation, History, Science Fiction, benches, anything that people use is worth thinking deeply about. Dan, you carried me through that, and I am grateful to you and James and the rest of the team for giving me a chance to grow, when voices like yours are so hard to hear anywhere else that is not the internet (I'm still mourning the end of Idea Channel). Whenever I read someone talking about design or about games in a nuanced, respectful way, I'll use your "Two boys on a trench coat" voice in my head. As a little salute ;)
I may be new to this channel, but I'd say I highly appreciate and support this show and what it teaches. I'm actually surprised and wondering WHY Dan's leaving of all possible outcomes. Dan, if you're reading this, thanks a LOT for teaching me about history, sci-fi, mythology, and especially about games and their value. I'll miss you being on the show and good luck to you and everyone else on the Extra Credits crew.
"It's been awhile since i last watch extra credits" *hears new voice actor* "did daniel get more masculine or what ?" *watches few videos and finds this video and sees that Daniel will be leaving* ";^; my fav voice actor... im having mixed emotions, should i be sad or proud ?? im confusedletz"
Well, this is certainly the end of an era. Dan effectively created this show - in my mind, he practically IS the show, even though I know that practically, most of the work is done by others - and now it continues without him. Best of luck!
I've been watching these videos since they began, when I was perhaps too young to properly even understand them, but my view of the world was so malleable. Thank you for helping to shape the way I see such an important part of my life. This channel will always mean so much to me
Damn it... I tried Dan, Carrie, I really tried, but despite my best efforts I'm crying. I've never cried over something like this before and I know it's stupid. I'll still see you around, and I'll be damned if I don't support everything you do from here on out, but it really does feel like I'm saying goodbye to a pair of old friends. I'm no game designer, I'm barely a hobbyist writer, and I really don't have any other connections to the industry. I started watching this channel back in 2009 because it popped up in my recommended list and I was bored, but it's been a ride since then. It was a bit hard having to accept that Allison was leaving, but I never really felt it since the art changed so little. Then when you launched Extra History it quickly became my favorite series due to my love of history. Extra Frames has been one of the most fascinating things I've ever watched, and your various charity events opened my eyes to a whole new way to make my hobby useful and beneficial to so many people. Hell, I used to be a huge prick and I'm not going to say it changed my life but the videos you've made on toxicity in the community helped me see how many problems I'd been causing. Having your cartoon finger pointed at me calling people like me disgraceful actually hurt, and I started doing everything I could to fix it. I won't say I'm a shining pinnacle of humanity, but the change in perspective did more good than I ever want to admit. Having various health scares and medical emergencies linked to a chronic condition the series you did titled "Because Games Matter" was the most emotional experience I had that year, hearing other people so much like me telling their stories was hugely encouraging. Not only that but in 2010 my family lost our house and we've since been living with a friend, struggling to find work hasn't always been successful, and we've had more than our share of issues with each other, but through all that I'd always come back to your channel, throw on a video, and zone out listening to you talk for hours on end like I had a friend with me. I've never really questioned it either, this was just the channel I came to when I was having problems or my depression got too bad deal with, I'd start watching and it'd all seem to melt away with the sound of your voice. I survived some nights just because if I died I wouldn't get to see you guys again and I'd be lying if I said the thought of you leaving doesn't scare the shit out of me for that fact alone. But that's not on you, I'll still be here I suppose. It just won't feel the same. That's why this is stupid. I know Matt's awesome, you wouldn't work with him if he weren't, but I guess I'm just one of those stubborn asses who hates change. So this is goodbye for now I suppose, While you're still here to see it. I wish you two the best, for all the good you've done for me. This channel, and by extension you, taught me how to think, how to plan, read, write, and design like a game developer even though I'm not. My writing, my personal life, and my mental health have all improved vastly thanks to you. I'm not going to drag this out, but I wanted you to know how much I'm really going to miss you, and how much it's meant to me to have you there for the last nine years. You've been one of the few consistently positive things in my life for that time, and I really can't think of any way make you realize how thankful I really am for that college project. I'd better go before I start crying all over again, but from the bottom of my heart thank you guys for everything you've done. May you have all the best this world can give. Looking forward to the next adventure, let's make it a good one!
8:54 Okay, I'm a _wee_ bit late on this (I only learned about Dan leaving _tonight_ so bare with me), but: while learning that Dan was leaving was a shock, hearing him admit he was preparing for the *_series finale_* was a bigger one. Like, clearly the show isn't going to end any time soon, but hearing him admit he had something planned for it was... kind of sobering, in a way.
That ending really came out of nowhere and took a giant piece of my heart along with it. Best of luck to Dan & Carrie! I'm overjoyed to hear that the Extra Frames animation series is going to get a new life as a new channel - that's been one of my favorite things Dan has ever done and halfway through the announcement, I was already planning to ask about it. Can't wait to see that come out, and whatever else Dan & Carrie plan to release! :)
Took me around two years to watch all the episodes, and I always loved there was a cool EC episode I could find and watch. I eventualy caught up and rolled with it. Now that Dan is leaving, I feel a little sad. It will never be the same feeling, but I do hope it can be as good or better with Matt. So I wish him as well as the Floyds the best of lucks! :)
This probably wont get seen. Dan, you all are my heroes. I love this channel with all my heart, and i will freely admit i nearly started crying when you played the outro music. You guys are why ive decided to pick up unity and start designing again. You guys are amazing and i wish everyone the best with all of this.
I agree with you completely there just replace unity with scratch 2.0 and you basically have my story too. so here is my bump to make this comment more seen
Did not expect a TH-camd to make me cry today. I’ve been watching you guys for probably 4 or 5 years, and even though I barely play games anymore let alone ever designing or thinking about designing for them, your videos were so always engaging, and well thought out, and made me think about non game related philosophy and psychology topics. I really appreciate all the work you’ve put into this series, and I’m really excited to see what you do next.
A thousand voices screaming "No! Come back!" until they were suddenly snuffed out. Will miss you a lot Dan. I've been with this series since it first started. You guys rock and I wish you the best of luck!
This channel is one of the bright lights of TH-cam and I've been watching since the very early 10's during its PATV days. It'll be sad to see you go. Good luck to Dan and Carrie and here's hoping for the continued success of the channel.
Oh we will be very excited to share the new animation channel on our social media once it comes out! Follow Dan on Twitter for news straight from the source!
WOAH WHAT, i was just listening to this episode comfortably and suddenly Dan is departing? AHH! Goodbye Dan, goodluck with it all! thanks for the many years of gaming goodness!
Yeah it fucked me up too. Was just comfortably receiving insights for my projects from good old cartoon Dan voice when suddenly bam everything is changed it's over nothing will ever be the same. Wasn't rdy for the feels :/
I’ve been wondering for a long time when the switch occurred to Matt, after scowling so many episodes I had gave up, while falling asleep to this video I heard the words. It’s crazy, three years ago it happened, wow
Well, Dan, goodbye. Like some of the other commenters here, i've been watching Extra Credits since your very first episodes on the Escapist - i was there originally for Zero Punctuation, sure, but i watched the first episode on the website, and nearly every episode since. Sure, other people have come and gone, but you have been the voice for the longest time. Youve spoken, quite literally, for the medium of entertainment that i hold most dearly. While ill still be hearing from you on other channels, sure, to know that your voice wont be the one i hear for Extra Credits is a bit sad. Cheers, mate.
You got me interrested in history. I remember saying something super generelising and racist about Japan, but then my brother showed me the sengoku jidai series. Your voice instantly hooked me and ever since that, your voice has been my favorite on the internett. Nothing comes close to your slightly auto tuned voice Dan. I reacently watched the flu epedemic video and Matt (?) does his job well, but I'll never the less miss you å lot.
Hey Dan, considering the overwhelming amount of comments you'll be getting I doubt you will personally see this message, but if you do, thank you. I have been watching Extra Credits since I started highschool almost 5 years ago. Now I am almost finishing my first year in Game Design at a university in the Netherlands. You shaped my desire to do games more than anything else. For the longest time I wanted to do IT but I wasn't sure if I wanted to contribute to my love of gaming or go for something my parents would deem more stable. I had 4 choices to choose from, 3 of them were Business & IT and one was Game Design. You made me choose the latter. Because of this choice that I made with your help, I left my country for the first time, to study and hopefully live in. I have learnt a lot of things that have helped me during this year, I had a somewhat clear view on everything because over so many years I had information from this amazing channel to help me. So that I don't transform this in an essay, I just want to say this again, Thank You Dan. This incredible channel and your amazing narration shaped my future and I really hope at some point in time I will get to work properly and will need the help of your videos again. Thank you for an amazing 5 years. And thank you Carrie for the cute animations for all these years.
Holy End of an Era, Batman. I'm super sad to see Dan go. Extra Credits was one of the very first channels I ever consistently followed on TH-cam, and realizing that I was in middle school when that happened blew my mind. I swear, his style of narration is so ingrained in me that I end up mimicking it out of habit when lecturing peers, and I never noticed until someone actually pointed out how high a pitch I was talking at. It's a rare thing for me to say for this kind of content, but Dan was a large part of this channel's experience for me, and this may end up being one of those significant reminders for me that life changes things all around you. Best of wishes to Dan and Carrie. And best of luck for the incoming Matt!
Oh wow... That's quite something to see you go after all these years... Thanks for the great shows, excited to see more Extra Frames ! But no rush... We can be patient ^^
If this channel stands for a thousand years, viewers would still say, this is our finest hour.Always remember, history is written by the victors. Then the evangalion theme song began and Dan and Karrie left.A perfect ending for this
I have been watching for 8 years, from the one man projects on dan's youtube channel, trough the escapists and Alison's fundraiser; through the shutdown on PATV, and back to youtube it has been a delightful ride. I found this series in secondary school; now I'm graduating university with a bachelors in computer science, I just handed in my dissertation on using modern design principles on retro hardware where I attempted to build software for the sega mega drive, I have gotten contracts with companies like EA. This series made me want to become a game's designer, it made me think differently about this medium, got me to try games I never otherwise would have; it inspired me, made me laugh, made me angry, but most importantly, made me passionate! I am going to become a designer, and I'm going to craft games with love, care, and skill because of what this channel taught me. And because games matter.
I know this isn't a real goodbye. Like you said you won't really be leaving youtube. But, as a nearly long time fan, Dan. I would like to thank you for make Extra Credits. Its been a wonderful 4ish years. And wish you and Carrie the best of luck. Thank you. And i will be watching for tour future endeavours.
This makes me so sad... :( Dan and James were the perfect team. I've followed you guys since the Escapist days and I'm so glad to have had you uplifting this medium we love for so many years. *sigh* All good things must come to an end. Godspeed, Dan, I hope you and Carrie will continue bringing your positive impact wherever you go from here.
Dan!! Thank you so much, above all, for the positivity and encouragement! Not only was this series informative and educational, it was relieving and refreshing to watch. I'm sure that won't change with the introduction of Matt, but I'll certainly be unable to divorce your voice from those feelings. Good good luck with the Extra Frames relaunch, you can bet I'll be right there for it!!
I respect Dan's choice to leave very much... And he has EVERY right to do so without ANYONE saying otherwise... It just sucks that I am not the biggest fan of Matt... I am also scared some people will leave because of this change... I don't want to stop watching this channel...
I was hoping for a video on this topic by you guys! Great work! Edit: OMG!! I'm going to MISS you on this series!!! Thanks for all of your wonderful words!
Thank you Dan. I started watching extra credits around the years I started forming myself into who I wanted to be as a young adult. It was a time of change in my life, and I needed guidance. What your channel has done is not just educate about games, or history, or art, it’s taught me more about philosophy and decency, equal to if not more so than any work by Thoreau ever could. You have sprinkled so much into this series; compassion, edict, self reliance, love for your work, and especially love for those you work with and for. I will miss you, and I hope the channel will continue to expel the same truths, and thoughts, that it always has. But I will miss you. I will miss your honesty, your fluidity, and your transparency. I would wish you luck, but I know you will succeed. Thank you for being a part of my life, Josiah. I would almost want to put this in a separate comment, because of its obvious mood change, but your voice is an oddity, and not something you hear in everyday life, so I have some accustom to only hearing a pitched voice in your videos. For most it would be a slightly interesting, if maybe annoying, quirk. But I have Synesthesia, Chromesthesia in particular, and that means I hear sounds, involuntarily, as colors and shapes. Your voice is incredibly unique in my world of colored sounds, a neon blueish green color in a pattern similar to a poorly maintained wooden floor. That may be the thing I miss the most.
Aaaaaaa I remember when I started watching this as a teenager and wanted to make my own games... and guess what I do now! Thanks so much for everything you've done so far!
How the time flies. I remember coming across you guys in around 2009-2010. I found you guys back during your Escapist days. At that time I found I wasn't playing to many video games like when I was younger. I somehow lost interest in them. That changed when I found you guys. Your takes and discussions on video games showed them in a light I didn't see and open my mind to what games can do compared to how I played them as a kid. You made me fall in love with games again. Knowing two of the founders will leave will be rough. But I believe in the new guy you have and will continue to watch, but... man how time flies. Thank you cause you helped me learn about games better, you are a much bigger inspiration to me as a creator, and thank you for all your years of showing why games matter. I've said it too many times, but again, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you.
Excuse you you can’t just drop that in like that and make me emotional while at work. ;; But in all seriousness, I wish you the best, and I fully intend to follow what comes next for you, my dudes. 💜
Ya taught me a lot, I play so many more games now than I used to, I have a PS4 and have fallen in love with BioShock and so many other games my Nintendo systems never could have shown me. Watching all these seasons, all these episodes, has taught me so much more about games than I could ever imagine before. I dunno if you'll see this, but thank you. I know this isn't the end of EC, but it is the end of an era. Since I started watching a few years back, I've learned so much. My horizons have expanded in so many directions, and I've played a good number of "Games You Might Not Have Tried" and enjoyed them. I know WHY I don't like the games that irritate me, more than just calling them bad, and I know why I like games more than just calling them good. When I found this series, I only owned Nintendo systems and almost exclusively played Pokemon games. I mean, I still play a lot of those, but there's so much more now. Thanks for teaching me, everyone. I'll still be watching the new era of EC, but I'll miss this.
Thank you Dan and Carrie for all the ideas you've shared and all that you've taught the Extra Credits community. Back in 2015 I rarely played video games, most of the games I did play were little more than a few old casual games that had stuck with me for a while and not much more than that. Then I somehow ended up on your channel. I remember that I ended up on your first episode, Bad Writing and ended up watching hundreds of your videos over the years. I learned about the game industry and not just what newest games people were playing but also the old ones, the hidden gems that have either died down in the gaming community or never had much attention in the first place. I learned about what goes into making a game and how little design choices that I had ignored for so long were actually crucial aspects of the game that had months of work poured into. I learned about the darker side of games and how some games could bleed you for cash until you were left with nothing, but also how the same principles used to make players into addicts could be used for a greater purpose. I learned how video games can send messages, touch hearts, and improve the lives of it's players. I learned how video games are an art and the principles learned from game design can be used to help teach concepts. I learned from Extra History stories from the past in a way I had never experienced them and ended up connecting with my history teacher and my dad. I'm even (trying and failing to) make little games for game jam these days. Thank you so much for everything you two. You guys have been my inspiration for a long time, and will be as I continue to rewatch your videos. PS: I'm still convinced Dan is just a bunch of kids in a trenchcoat
Farewell Dan I will check out whatever you do next, and honestly this channel, helped me choose my carrer path, it helped me realise I like game design and the subtle things that go into creating games from a creative and mechanical standpoint, and helped me choose what I will study once I graduate High School. Thank you guys this Channel, is an invaluable gem in my eyes.
Dan practically IS Extra Credits/History/Sci-Fi/Mythology to me. It'll be terrible to see him go, but I'm hopeful for the future... Also, GIVE ME some MORE EXTRA FRAMES! WHOO!!
I hope it stands to demonstrate what a massive influence that this show and its creators have had on me for the better part of a decade now that my eyes are not dry after hearing Dan is leaving the show. You are an inspiration and though you will be sorely missed, you will be celebrated for what you've achieved here I believe, for many more decades to come.
Man I didn't know anyone was Gunna be cutting onions this morning... But thank you for everything Dan. You inspired me to be a game designer for so many years, and helped me think complexly about the world around me. I'm not sure I'll be a game designer anymore, but I'm glad to have spent my youth dreaming I would be with great videos from you. Best of luck, and stay in touch!
I was not ready for that gut punch at the end. I've been following you since the Escapist days, and you have always done an amazing job in relating just how special video games can be. In fact, you guys inspired me to do more with my passion for gaming. I had an idea after watching one of your videos about the good games can do. My buddy, Ian, and I started a fundraiser called the Blue Wizard Project. I played through 31 Mega Man games and my buddy played through 30 Castlevania games. We raised donations and recorded the journey on TH-cam. We raised over $3,400 for the Mid Ohio Food Bank. It is by far one of the best things I have done with my life, and one of the things I am the most proud of (despite the frustration and many, many F bombs dropped in our videos :P). I never would have thought to do it had it not been for your work. Seriously, I can not thank you enough for the hard work and devotion you have put into this channel, for the inspiration and push towards doing something great with this shared passion we all have, and for reminding us all that games are an art form and a damn good one at that. Good luck with your next step. May it be an even more successful journey than this one has been.
While I’m super sad to see you go Dan and Carrie, I am really happy that you decided to take that extra step to move on to something greater. I will miss Dan’s voice and his talks of games and history but, I’m glad your both moving on so you can grow. Love you guys :)
Woah, I did not expect that ending. Wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours! I'll miss your signature voice. I can't believe you're leaving this channel. Cheers!
This is actually a very good news because it means more for us viewers! James' channel can focus more on in-depth funtional game design while Dan doing his specialty, animation and asthetic of game design. Also please bring back the show about game music, I loved that show.
I want to say thank you, not just to Dan and Carrie, but to all you folks at extra credits. You have helped me and many others in so many ways, wether it’s helping us see something in a certain light, or to show us games we (probably) haven’t tried. You have helped and entertained so many people, and many people care about you too! PS- I see you public relations person, (Melinda, I think? Or something like that, sorry if I got it wrong) that’s a thanks to you too! :)
I hope we can continue to enjoy extra credits for years to come. In a way switching hosts is a good thing so people come for the content and not the narrator. (Still, love the voice distortion. The new guy will take some getting used to. I'll give him a chance.)
Dan, you and Carrie will never know how great it is to have stumbled on your channel. I've been watching now for some time and love every new series the channel comes up with. I love Extra History and will listen over and over again to the playlists as I go for long drives and want to show something to my friends & family. I wish you both the best and I'm going to keep looking forward to new content on this channel and on the new channel you guys create out of the animation channel. You have both done great work and I'm sure all your fans wish you well in your future endeavors!!!! Thanks so much! We'll miss you both!!!
Well, it's not like it's the end of the series, it's just continuing with a new employee and some old ones leaving, like it has many times already. Thanks for all these years, Carrie and Dan!
Ironically I liked the old style character creation system. I loved making the weird ideas and builds i could make. My friends HATE when I try to make a new build because I'm like okay gimme a min and i spend 20 mins deciding where to put the points n stuff. Its fun tho
I am hoping that Matt can fill the gaping Dan shape hole that will be left now that he is leaving :D Looking forward to whatever Dan and Carrie are up to next, you got my full support in whatever it might be^^ (Oh and awesome video topic, very good to hear that while designing the character select screen in a project i work on :D)
I started watching your channel when I was in high school, the first time I watched it was on the escapist after Moviebob recomended your show. To say that I grew up watching this show would be an understatement as it would be more apt to say that this show molded me into the adult I am now. You guys came into my life at a time where it seemed like art and video games were not only separate but pointless, when it seemed like the only thing I would have look forward to in life was working as a welder and being told that I should enjoy it because it was what I should do, what a guy is suppose to do. Your show taught me differently, you showed me a new way to look at video games, a new way to interpret them. I wish I could map out just how exactly it happened, just how you changed me and my work to show you and everyone on this channel how you helped me. But I think the best way to sum it all up is you showed me that video games mattered. Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work over the years Dan. I still remember your dissertation video, how you were inspired by zero punctuation. I was so ecstatic when I saw this series being made and slowly pick up traction. It really feels like an end of an era. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors!
Hey Dan and Carrie, I've been enjoying the content created on this channel for at least four years now and I've largely remained silent down here in the comment section but I just wanted to take a second to say thank you. Not only has Extra Credits been a source for many of my college papers but it has also helped to inspire me to continue to pursue my passion (Theatre). Both theatre and game design are careers that are very difficult to get into and only the truly passionate can survive in them, nonetheless thrive. So, to see a group of people so passionate and dedicated as Extra Credits has really helped me to stay with my passion no matter how daunting the future looks. Thank you. Good luck with the future and I can't wait to see your upcoming projects.
I have been watching you guys for so long (like ten years!), and it's really sad to see Dan go. Why you gotta spring it on me like that. Sad Surprise, Bad Surprise. Bye Dan.
I have to say, I am pretty new to the chanel, haven't senn much yet, mostly focused on Extra History, but I started to like this channel with the first video I watched (don't know what it was) and I think you and your voice are one of the reasons, why I almost instantly fell in love with the channel. And although I'm a rather new viewer compared to the ones, that have spent years over years with you and Extra Credits as a whole and you're not leaving completely, I'll miss you on Extra Credits and I wish you a lot of luck and happiness in your life from now. Thanks for the great memories, I'll definetely follow your other projects.
It won't be, which is why we're not "replacing" Dan's voice. We're working with new people and continuing to make the same quality of content, and truth be told, over a dozen people have all lent their influence to Extra Credits during the past years (and continue to do so!), even though most of them are behind the scenes (like your friendly neighborhood TH-cam commenter). We're all sad to see Daniel and Carrie go, but we're happy for the new projects they're gonna make and we're so grateful for the support you folks give us with our own new projects. --Belinda
I hope this will work out. For these kind of videos, the voice actor is an important part of the overall experience. People can be stuffy (if translation tools are correct) on the internet, giving out Likes and Subscribes like it was hard cash. Loosing part of the content may have them lose interest. Make it easy for the new people and cook up some great content to present!
Hey Dan, I started watching Extra Credits in college. Through my first years in the games industry and finally still as a Senior Game Developer at Inxile Entertainment. I will of course continue watching with Matt as the host but it is amazing to see this start from a college project to different channels and etc. I also like to think you inspired people such as Mark Brown to start chiming in on more specifics and I feel like you really opened game design concepts up. Extra credits has and will continue to influence the industry it set out to explain and teach about. To say the least I am very excited to what you move on to and I do know how scary that will be. As you have been talking this entire time about choice and going with the familiar. I am sure it is easier to not leave and continue doing Extra Credits. I am very impressed already. I wish you the best of luck on whatever you go on to do.
A nice look at choice paralysis, I can certainly a few games that I felt discouraged to play because I felt overwhelmed right out of the gate. As for Dan and Carrie, I look forward to what their future projects will be, and I'm still excited for Extra Credits moving forward.
Oh my God Dan. Thank you so much for everything. Your voice has been the guiding light through my Staff Cadet career, and has helped me so much in every leadership decision I've ever made. You've made me realise that game design is so much more than just that, and made me discover so many wonderful experiences. Good luck in your life, you will be fondly remembered. -We will be nice to Dan, I promise ;)
Daniel and Carrie Floyd are amazing people we’ve been so proud and happy to work with for all these many years (since 2008!). We can’t wait to see what they work on next! (You'll still be enjoying Dan's classic cartoon voice in pre-recorded episodes airing next month, like our next Extra History series!)
We're also excited to show you all the cool projects we have coming up in the rest of 2018, starting with the introduction of Matt you'll see next week in Extra Credits. We'll still keep making the videos you love (and then some).

This is going to be weird having Dan leave and having somebody else narrate it
Extra Credits damn, that voice is too familiar to lose. Best of luck to you, and Matt!
So long and thanks for all the fish
good luck with any new adventures you go on thanks for ..... everything :)
That’s sad
Good luck, Dan and Carrie!
Mark Brown did you enjoy the stream earlier? The shirt was red BTW.
OH MAH GOD it's my other favorite game dev channel!!!!!! #nerdgasamconfirmed #whensthenextgamemakerstoolkitcomingout #serioslyIneedthatlikerightnow
lol all we need now is Hbomberguy to comment and we get the perfect trifecta
MA BOI!?!
Mark!
All the best!!
Mother's Basement I know this is a weird place to ask you this but have you watched skilled teaser takagi?
Mother's Basement you shitbag
Jacob Luce the Floyd's will now be truly successful, as they have been blessed by his holiness, the anime pope.

Huh look who I found
Wow, bittersweet ending. Looking forward to seeing what you do next! I'll miss hearing you on EC!
Of course tierzoo likes EC, great channel man!
What a surprise seeing you here! I love both your videos and extra credits
I always find you on the finest of channels 👌
Normally I hate the game for randomly selecting our species and genetic traits for us before we spawn (think of all the poor players stuck as redwoods for hundreds of years). But the developers probably knew that if I had to choose from a list of 8.7 million species, I would have never started playing in the first place.
I am eagerly awaiting your next vid TZ :)
"Hey I haven't watched Extra Credits in a while, let's see what's going on."
"I'm leaving Extra Credits."
"Oh..."
Me now ):
same here.
For me it was:
"Hey I haven't watched Extra Credits in a while, let's see what's going on."
"Once upon a time..."
"Who the hell is this?!"

Thanks, Dan, for everything. We'll miss you!
Wow. Dan leaving hit me way harder than it should have.
Hugh Azuril I know right :( I'm crying in the club right now
I still can’t believe this 😭

I've been watching Extra Credits since the beginning, so it legitimately hurts that I'll no longer have your pitched up voice in my ear any more, Dan. Best of luck on your next project, and thank you!
Woah
You have interesting videos pal.
Gonna check them out ;).
I think that the announcement of Dan's departure should have been a bit less hidden in a random video
IKR
Yea, it took me a hot minute to find this video to see why there's a new voice
Yeah somone finally told me about this video. I usually watch extra history and the sci fi stuff.
@TheNinthGamerand also changed the Topic of the Comments. Man it take me a while to find this video.
agreed
Oh man... your voice is what got me hooked on Extra History. I will miss you.
Conroy Paw same thing for me
As was I
Ikr
Oh you mean the helium?
Same I miss him so much
We'll miss you, Dan and Carrie. Been listening to Dan's sped-up voice for so many years, I've lost track. It won't be the same without you, Dan, and I have no idea how things will be different without Carrie.
Best of luck in that "next adventure", wherever it takes you!
Dan: announces his leave with Carrie
This is where the real men cried.
For real. The notice hit me like a thousand bricks. I'll still gladly follow the show weekly for as long as it keeps running, but you take a big piece of all of us with you, Dan. You will obviously be missed.
Astolfo of Charlemagne
I whole heartedly agree with you 😭
Matt's come into his own, though! I like the personable banter he brings to the videos.
"Oh hey, a new EC episode, just when I need something to pique my interest and lift my moods."
...
"I was not prepared for all them feels."
feels dan man
Aww, Dan is leaving?
I would be legitimately heartbroken if you ever handed your channel over to someone else.
Comic Drake hi
Love ur vids
I've been watching since the Escapist days too, and never missed a single episode! I've learned so much over the years from these guys, and it's so sad to see Dan go.. ;-; This is the end of an era and that is always sad. But it's also the start of a new one, and I look forward to seeing Matt take up the baton =3
I don't remember the escapists days, can someone tell me what was it by any chance?
Ladies and Gents.... or lady and gent.... never mind, thanks. From the bottom of our hearts, for opening our minds and being honest even when it wouldn't pay to be. Extra Credits is the gold standard I point people to when I want them to understand that games are more than just a game and that there are a thousand factors in play when one is made. Keep rocking the web and we'll be watching.
So true.
Glad to see I'm not alone in my respect for these guys
Dan, if you're leaving, that makes this my last chance to say this:
Thank you.
TheMarioaddict
I too, would like to know what card game. What's the name? What's it consist of?
TheMarioaddict I, three, would like to know these things. And are you going to be at any game conventions, either for your game or for yourself? Particularly any in California.
Top 10 saddest game rpg character departures
1. Dan and Carrie departure from extra credits.
Will miss you guys good luck on what ever way you choose
Dan I've been here since I was about 13 and now I'm going to University soon and very doubtfully you'll read this in particular but I hope you know that you and this channel has been a big part of forming what I want to do and my maturity for the past 5 years. You'll sincerely and actively be missed
Bro, I've been watching this channel since forever ago too and your words have made raw, cut onions appear out of nowhere. I'm gonna miss Dan too. ;_;
This is JUST what I was going to say!
"It's been awhile since i last watch extra credits"
*hears new voice actor*
"did daniel get more masculine or what ?"
*watches few videos and finds this video and sees that Daniel will be leaving*
";^; my fav voice actor... im having mixed emotions, should i be sad or proud ?? im confusedletz"
You should be... Saddy
"Bumped" so that Dan is more likely to see it.
GREENSP0RE "doublebump" till he sees it
.
Quadruplebump. Good Luck!
I agree with you completely there just replace unity with scratch 2.0 and you basically have my story too. so here is my bump to make this comment more seen
I'm not crying you're crying
Henry Allen No your crying!
No their crying
Henry Allen boy shut yo sensitive ass up
Never mind I’m crying
Yep I’m crying
Did not expect a TH-camd to make me cry today.
I’ve been watching you guys for probably 4 or 5 years, and even though I barely play games anymore let alone ever designing or thinking about designing for them, your videos were so always engaging, and well thought out, and made me think about non game related philosophy and psychology topics. I really appreciate all the work you’ve put into this series, and I’m really excited to see what you do next.
Genessa B pussy xd
A thousand voices screaming "No! Come back!" until they were suddenly snuffed out. Will miss you a lot Dan. I've been with this series since it first started. You guys rock and I wish you the best of luck!
This channel is one of the bright lights of TH-cam and I've been watching since the very early 10's during its PATV days. It'll be sad to see you go. Good luck to Dan and Carrie and here's hoping for the continued success of the channel.
Came randomly in the Punic Wars stayed and it hit me hard when I realised Dan left, a year too late but, I’ll miss you Dan, you’re voice is gold!
WE LOVE YOU DAN!!!! FORCE JAMES TO PLUG YOUR NEW ANIMATION CHANNEL SO WE KNOW WHERE TO FOLLOW AND STALK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BlankPicketSign YES!!!
Gonna miss you Dan, good luck!
I’ve been wondering for a long time when the switch occurred to Matt, after scowling so many episodes I had gave up, while falling asleep to this video I heard the words. It’s crazy, three years ago it happened, wow
DAAAAAAAAN!!!
CARRRIE!!!
we’ll miss you!!
May your next adventure be as grande!
Unexpected feels. Goddamnit.
This announcement actually hit me ;-; Thank you for everything, your voice is so beautiful
Daaaan!, noooo!, I'm gonna miss you so much
Holy End of an Era, Batman.
Wow... that’s just... so unexpected. I hope we at least get a special “Goodbye Dan” video?
Me too! T^T
Or at least a "Dan Lies!" episode xD
3:20 So relatable man, I get so embarrassed whenever I throw a dart to make a choice and accidentally hit a person.
a fellow Paul A
What a world we live in...
Oh thank god im not the only one
Good good luck with the Extra Frames relaunch, you can bet I'll be right there for it!!
holybutternutsquash Wait... Extra Frames? What's that?
holybutternutsquash Thank you―that was beautifully phrased.
Your profile pic fits so well
Thank you for everything Dan
He will say hello next week! We just wanted to give Dan enough time to do a proper outro today.
I would fear that that hallo could be easily judged to hell and back :D
might be better to give him a proper start with the next episode ^^
I respect Dan's choice to leave very much... And he has EVERY right to do so without ANYONE saying otherwise...
It just sucks that I am not the biggest fan of Matt...
I am also scared some people will leave because of this change... I don't want to stop watching this channel...
I was hoping for a video on this topic by you guys! Great work!
Edit: OMG!! I'm going to MISS you on this series!!! Thanks for all of your wonderful words!
I didn't know kt watched this show too.
I didn't expect to see you here
Thank you Dan.
Thank you for being a part of my life,
Josiah.
8:59 nice heck snake. also hope dan does well on what comes next.
A Dan without heck snake will be something to get used to though
That's what I call a hecktie!
Does anyone remember what that was even from? Because I've been trying to find it and I can't.
The hecknomancer video really manifested it for me, but it had been around before for a long time
+
Aaaaaaa I remember when I started watching this as a teenager and wanted to make my own games... and guess what I do now! Thanks so much for everything you've done so far!
What games have you worked in?
We'll miss you Dan. Hope the two of enjoy where you end up next.
Excuse you you can’t just drop that in like that and make me emotional while at work. ;;
But in all seriousness, I wish you the best, and I fully intend to follow what comes next for you, my dudes. 💜
"If you are brave enough to say goodbye life will reward you with a new hello."
Paulo Coelho
N-no more Dan? I don't... I'm actually crying. Good luck in your future endeavors, Floyds, I'm gonna miss ya.
😢
At least we still have Dan
And Dan
I cried too, seems strange
It might be a good idea to make that announcement into a seperate video, that way less people would be confused when Matt eventually comes.
End of an era. Goodbye Dan and Carrie. You will be missed. Hope you have fun with whatever you do next
Oh wow. I never really expected this. Good luck, guys. We'll miss you.
WHOO!!
I feel the same way. Matt has some tough expectations to live up to. Even so, no matter what happens, I will stick by this channel
See you space cowboy
You're gonna feel that weight.
Cheers!
Exactly my thoughts
Analysis Paralysis is the biological equivalent of stack overflow
lol nice
Fakjbf isn't it more like a full ram?^^
This is actually a very good news because it means more for us viewers!
James' channel can focus more on in-depth funtional game design while Dan doing his specialty, animation and asthetic of game design.
Also please bring back the show about game music, I loved that show.
I was hoping for more Design Club. Getting to see the nuts and bolts that form the skeleton I never think about was BEYOND fascinating.
Oh no... You're leaving. Best of wishes my friend.
I seriously feel like crying a little ;__;
I want to say thank you, not just to Dan and Carrie, but to all you folks at extra credits.
FINALLY, I found his last episode. Thanks!
I didn’t come here to cry Dan why you do this to me? But honestly, good job and good luck buddy!
Well, it's not like it's the end of the series, it's just continuing with a new employee and some old ones leaving, like it has many times already. Thanks for all these years, Carrie and Dan!
I don't care what he's called, I'm calling the new host Dan 2
Maybe after 3 evolution, he becomes a Don?

New Dan™
Matt "Electric Dan-aloo" whateverhislastnameis
Ironically I liked the old style character creation system. I loved making the weird ideas and builds i could make. My friends HATE when I try to make a new build because I'm like okay gimme a min and i spend 20 mins deciding where to put the points n stuff. Its fun tho
I am hoping that Matt can fill the gaping Dan shape hole that will be left now that he is leaving :D
Looking forward to whatever Dan and Carrie are up to next, you got my full support in whatever it might be^^
(Oh and awesome video topic, very good to hear that while designing the character select screen in a project i work on :D)
Farewell you two, Daniel and Carrie Floyd. And Matt, welcome to the podium. Hope you like it here.
Hey Dan and Carrie,
I've been enjoying the content created on this channel for at least four years now and I've largely remained silent down here in the comment section but I just wanted to take a second to say thank you.
Sad Surprise,
Bad Surprise.
Bye Dan.
15 Seasons tho, daNm.
You will be missed Dan. You changed the way I think about games forever. Good luck man.
How can EC be the same without Dan's voice?
Extra Credits Thanks Belinda
It will be fine on the long run after a short period of adjustment. That's how I trust it will go anyway :)
Good luck Dan!
Hey Dan,
I started watching Extra Credits in college.
Extra credits simply won't be the same without you, thank you for all the great videos you were a part of. Good luck in your future endeavors.
