I had 2 Omega Speedmaster watches in the 90's, one black, one white. I loved them, thought I was Neil Armstrong but I remember trying to dry one out on the radiator for 3 days when it got steamed up while washing the dishes. After that I quickly sold them both. Iconic watches, absolutely beautiful but useless if they cant be worn in 2 inches of water. I just bought a Squale 1545 Ceramica and I'm pretty certain I will be okay washing my dishes with it. I bought it to wear on my wrist, confident it will always tell me the time everywhere I go, in any weather, I don't care about the resell value.

I've been around luxury watches for many decades so here's something to consider: When competing in pornographic masturbation timed challenges, the Squale owner will will have a clear advantage. The Squale's Swiss ETA movement will withstand the stress of the G loads and will wind automatically. The stainless steel case and sapphire crystal will keep the movement dry from bodily fluids. The ceramic bezel will help in establishing the timed baseline. The owners of the premium brands have all of those advantages, perhaps with a co-axial movement added for better timekeeping. Or a certified chronometer with a crown stamped movement. But those advantages are lost since the owner's erection and completion are dependent solely on his ability to see the watch face at all times. So they are forced to slow stroke as not to blur their vision and this is an area of disadvantage to point out.

Squale made cases for the fifty fathoms which came out before the sub with the same index type and general style so subs are the homage, not the Squale.

So I largely wore Polar heart monitor watches being an avid cyclist as an adult. At some point I noticed ETA movements in some low priced dive watches with sapphire crystals. I was after an ETA 7750 and started going through TH-cam videos to see which brands didn't fuck you with a high margin like Rolex. That's when I saw Steinhart, Sinn, Squale and some others. I really was not interested in a 40mm case, I wanted 42mm preferably with a ceramic bezel that I could wear with a Zulu strap. So the 7750 was out and I decided on a GMT. That's when I saw the Squale Ceramica for $700 USD. That wouldn't cover half of my last invoice from my master Porsche mechanic, and that was a small 3 hour job. When the Squale arrived I was like holy shit this watch exceeded all expectations for such small money. Everything was flawless. I ride a bicycle most days and have taken a few dives in the wet. When I got up my track bike was mangled but the ETA didn't skip a beat and not a scratch on the sapphire crystal or ceramic bezel. I was so impressed with the ETA's accuracy and durability that I purchased the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage with the 2824-2 three hander and a domed sapphire (absolutely bullet proof crystal). I purchased a few others, a Squale Heritage and the original black dial Steinhart Ocean One. BOTH sold in one and two days respectively for 30% more than the NEW price from Gnomon Watches (3 days DHL free shipping). In the world of stocks and bonds we call this fucking nice! When I see a guy with a mass produced luxury Rolex watch that sells for an absurd mark up (when it once cost as much as a low end Omega) I think either that guy has money to burn or he's all hat no cattle. Do mass produced luxury watches hold value? Sure but being satisfied with a BEP (break even) is a shitter's bet. Don't be a shitter. Make your money pay you. Otherwise you'll be living off TH-cam videos.

Sometimes I'd rather buy a Squale than an over-hyped over-priced same quality Breitling with standard, OK ETA movements, mid-tier is better than,, Fossil ?, modern Movado ?, Victorinox ?, Tissot ?, you get a great deal with Yema, Doxa, Aquadive, Glycine, O&W, Archimedes, Sinn, Limes, just go with those, save money and still get quality unless there's to much Chinese involvement.
