    It's not a pain to do it, it is the fact that Milwaukee did not explain how to remove it in the manual is what I have an issue with. I had the same problem when I bought it almost 2 years ago, always went with the corded because I did not feel like wasting time trying to remove the bit. This works, thanks. Milwaukee should compensate you or the very least personally thank you.

      Not to be "that guy" but it isn't mentioned in the manual because if you buy this tool you're expected to know how to use it. I get that not everyone does, but if that's the case get an air angle grinder

      @@gojiman1649If you can get that not everyone already knows how to use a tool before buying it, why can't you agree that the instruction manual is the best place to explain it? There aren't many features in this tool, and a single page with some basic IKEA-style illustrations would go a long way. They don't need to teach you how to grind down welds or cut off plastic flashing, sure, but what is the harm in writing a couple of sentences about a feature that clearly isn't obvious to everyone?

    I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

    Based on the title, I first thought this video would discuss the "cut-out under load" problem. After watching this video, it quickly dawned on me this is another issue entirely. Had to laugh out loud, though, because this "mystery" is exactly how the collets on both of my Makita Die Grinders work (GD0800C and 810C low rpm). At least Makita states this in their manual. Milwaukee just needs to highlight this in their manual. Thanks for the laughs!

    THOSE COLLETS ARE WONDERFUL and a PROFESSIONAL feature common to the glorious 5196 Milwaukee beloved of the welding industry. That would be why Milwaukee didn't explain it because they just assumed. I carry two open end wrenches on a small carabiner in my abrasive bucket. I subscribed because you deserve support for mentioning it. Once broken free if the shaft of your attachment sticks tapping it towards the tool will become second nature. I maintained a fleet of the 5196 and bought two for myself (they're so tough I buy 5196 used).
    Those collect kick ass and are much better than a chuck. Check the part number as it may match 5196 parts worth knowing if you get one. Now if only Milwaukee would offer a cordless 5196...

      @@Shoptoolreviews I just bought one of these and immediately recognized that the collet is the same style as an ER collet that is very common for holding milling cutters. The collet in the air die grinder is more like what machinists call a 5C collet.

    The Milwaukee collet is actually a better design. Not unique to Milwaukee tools however. It's used in commercial NC tool holders for better grip and more importantly better concentricity to the tool spindle. The longer taper fingers don't let go even with taping cross ways (which is bad for precision spindles) so the positive extraction feature is needed. Sometimes faster is not better.

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, this is a great design; however, many people just don't know about it. Especially those that have used air grinders for decades, so they assume they know everything (me included). It's just a different design and we wanted to educate others out there. Thanks for watching.

    It's made this way because the collet is on a shallower angle for more grip which makes it stick so it has to be self releasing . This design also requires much less torque when tightening to grip enough. Most people still crank it down too much anyway, it only takes a little.

    Ok but what about when the nut just comes off the entire piece? Then what. The nut itself is sitting above the collet, so its never below to pop it free. Right now I got a burr bit stuck in the tool and the collet and its refusing to come out, and the nut is already off completely (since the burr bit is tiny, the nut simply slides over), can't tighten it anymore to get the nut back on to pass the lip of the collet.

    The collets on Milwaukee's 5194 and 5196 (straight corded) die grinders are built the same way. It is a bit of a nuisance because you have to put the wrenches on twice, but it is not that big of an issue. I do not want to deal with the batteries when I have wall power nearby. Has anyone used a 12 V DC power supply to run one of these? Any issues? Would it be hard to wire up? Thanks for any information!

    I thought surely Milwaukee must have put this info in the manual, so I checked. Unbelievably, they failed to put the accessory removal procedure in the manual! All it says is: "Reverse the procedure when removing the accessory."
    I just got mine and its apparently the only one ever made with a floppy paddle lever. In other words, it flops a good 1/2" away from the power switch instead of staying in contact with it like every other one I've ever seen. I think maybe the roll pin is too small and not creating enough friction. I'll see if I have one slightly bigger in diameter to punch in there.
