  • Note: If you want to overcome addiction then inspiration and motivation may get your started, but it is not enough to keep you going... Please do try to speak to an Addiction Specialist or therapist and look up the work of Gabor Maté, especially his book 'In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts'.
My friend Kenny faced his problems head on and went sober and in doing so discovered his way forward in life.

Started drinking at the age of 15 then started mixing it with weed and later on cocaine. Things were slowly getting worse and worse. I barely went out the house anymore except for work. And wasted almost every weekend on drinking and doing blow. I became depresssed and started to hate myself Now at the age of 25 i have finally come to the conclusion that it cannot keep going like this. I want to stay sober and have a full life. I'm 2 days sober now.

Started drinking when I was 18 years old. My 18th birthday party was my first night drunk and that was it for me. I went to university purely so that I could drink. Moved onto weed and then harder drugs. Then came the depression and mental illness. Then came the near suicide attempts. Now I'm 26 years old and I'm saying that enough is enough. Been sober for a couple of weeks now, going to keep going with it.

Gil B I was just about to go to the store and buy some alcohol but your timely comment stopped me. I have fallen off the wagon a couple of times and almost died as a result. My meds react to excessive alcohol consumption in the form of lung failure. I've gone to bed thinking I can't breathe. It's just my bipolar that gives me urges to drink, but I'm in control of my own problems and I should really do better.

Today God has restored my life, marriage, kids relationships and i started my own business 3 years ago and it is doing big things. God will move mountains but we still have to bring a shovel.. dig deep. Blessings.

Last year, I quit drinking for 9 months. I felt great and got back into cycling, running marathons, and was generally motivated. I became a better mother, fiend, person. Then one day, after a long bike ride....I thought, "You know what?! ... I deserve a beer. Obviously I do not have a problem with alcohol and now I can just drink moderately."
    NO.
    That is NOT what happened.
Less than two weeks ago, I got a phone call and found out that the closest friend I have ever had, only 55 years old, passed away. Her liver function was at zero, just a scarred, cirrhotic liver.
She told me, about 18 months ago, that her liver was damaged to the point of no return. If she had been able to quit drinking, she could have managed her health better so to extend her life and not suffer so badly. But... she could not quit. She was hospitalized for a month, discharged, and probably opened a bottle of wine when she got home. 18 hours later, she was dead. She vomited vast amounts of blood due to esophogeal verices, tears in her esophagus as a consequence of liver cirrhosis. They could not put a trake tube in at the ICU. She went into a coma and had a DNR order (do not resuscitate). Her 3 children were there when life support was removed.
I am going to honor my own life, those I love, and my friend's memory by vowing to give up alcohol for good. It will be two weeks on Sunday.
Do your best to not let what happened to my friend, happen to you. By the time our liver is scarred beyond repair, it is too late.... and there are no symptoms when we get to that point. Liver tests show that the labs are fine. Only a liver biopsy will be able to confirm a terminal condition. Do not let this be your surprise.

I wish I watched this early last year. The past 10months brought out the worst of myself in regards to alcohol consumption and consequently reckless behaviour. I feel like I've gone so far from myself I don't even recognize myself anymore. Cried my heart out when I came to myself just recently seeing the damage I've done. Can't seem to get past the self-loathing. Luckily I have a job and managed to keep it even with my bad habits. Determined to do better for myself this year onwards. Sending love to everyone out there man.

I've been struggling with alcohol for half my life. Almost 34. I'm tired of the same thing feeling like shit everyday. I have been sober on and off. The longest was little over a year. I seriously want this to end. I find when in sober I am better at times but it's another hell of actually dealing with your emotions. With no support, no friends I find it extremely difficult. My husband likes to drink and that is one of the biggest problems I find my self relapsing. I'm 1 month sober. You Video is very powerful. It still gives me hope.

I am over 30 days. I decided I'm not going to wake up and count my days that I havent had a drink but I'm counting my blessings instead. It makes it more positive. Because if I concentrate on the last time I had a drink it might trigger me. My blessings are my sobreity and thinking with a clear mind. Waking up happy and healthy. Reaching my goals one day at a time. My goal is to completely rid the urge of drinking. I had a thought the other day at work about how I wanted a beer. But I thought I came this far and I'm not turning back. Each day is a new day

Thank you for uploading this video!I had a huge revelation last night. I'm only 19 and started heavily drinking early this year. I'm done with stumbling home from nights out and drinking alone. I'm cutting my ties with the negative people in my life and becoming sober for myself and my family. I'm 3 days sober now and will stick at it. I do again thank you !

For anyone watching this now, the greatest thing you can do in your journey to getting sober is joining alcoholics anonymous or narcotics anonymous. There is so much strength in community. You'll hear stories that will inspire you beyond your own, you'll see people your own age or older just starting out. Dont give up now, your story could inspire someone else

I’m 39. Almost 6 months sober and insurmountably more productive and alive. Anxiety and fatigue are rough sometimes but nothing like feeling hungover. Those days wasted laying in bed fighting with yourself through the hangover just to feel bit “better” and take a trip to the liquor store just to do it all again. Nope…no more. Just raw, authentic…Jay

One of the best videos I love to watch when im struggling. I wont call myself an alcoholic but I can drink like a fish at times. EVERY single time I do I always feel that shame and guilt. I sometimes take ADHD medication because I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was younger and everytime I take them I feel normal and Alive but in reality I feel guilt and shame. Its either one or the other or when it gets bad both alcohol and pills. Im making ends meet but I am sooo lost right now in life. Im 32 years old work a decent job for the past 6 years but Im still broken. I love beer and its hard for me to think I will not drink a single beer the rest of my life. I always fall but somehow pull myself out but ALWAYS fall again. Its a vicious cycle! I love this video and it gives me hope that I can change!

I’m almost 4 years sober from alcohol and drugs. 2 months ago I decided to try Kratom for my back pain, and it spiraled quickly. Today is day one with zero Kratom. It blind sided me… I have been staying motivated and pushing through. I hate myself and am so ashamed I didn’t see it coming. I told my wife I thought i was abusing the Kratom and it needed to go. She is so supportive of me and proud of me. I told my work and they told me to take the time I needed to get through this. I’m fighting the depression and I know this too shall pass. I can’t change what happened, but I can change what happens.

Dig deep and despite how others may view you never stop believing in yourself.

Paul Davidson I've been trying hard for the last couple of months. I've smoked weed and drank almost everyday for 8 years and im only 25. Like he said in the video it comes to a point where youre like what am I doing, will I be like this for the rest of my life? I struggle with the notion of never being able to drink or smoke again, or never being able to be happy sober
