- Today we take a look at Matalan Warehouse - Corby, Corby NN17 5XU.
We speak to security at the back gate who inform us that filming is not allowed.
We ask about his SIA Licence and the parking notice outside where it seems that he has parked his own car in the entrance.
When finished the drone flight, we speak to the 2nd security guard about the same matters.
Then round to the front where security guard number 3 is scared of the camera and is not too happy with us closing his Fire Door which is propped open with a brush handle.
Finally, a member of Staff arrive, know who we are (I think) gets a keyring and we leave.

Yeah that's why I got sack. I could only speak English and was polite to public and contractors.
I remember many years ago that a visit from the Factories Inspector was a portent of doom. These days the Government have off loaded that to local councils and I bet these businesses hardly ever get a visit (if at all) to check out their safety procedures and setup…… The HSE only look at stuff when things go wrong, which in my opinion is a like shutting the stable door etc….
lol. I remember well the panic that reigned in one workshop I was employed in. We couldn't manufacture the parts we needed on the big old hydraulic press with that damn safety cage in place.
It wasn't an easy thing to get on or off either, with it being held in place with engineering bolts screwed directly into tapped holes in cast iron. They had to be perfectly square or they wouldn't even start to bite on the threads.
Then, exactly at the time the door to the workshop opened and the dreaded inspector appeared, seven blokes would all slink away from the machine at the same time, trying to look like less of a crowd than they were, and all with their hands in their pockets hiding sockets and spanners.
All in house from the company with HSE then when it goes terribly wrong the real HSE comes to investigate. Most the HSE employees don't give a shit very little extra pay for doing the job

It's such a big issue now. You would think that SIA trained security would be up to date on Drone and public photography.
Well not sure about that. My budgie is SIA approved.
You would think that the SIA or an even bigger organisation with more powers, would give DJ and the other auditors the power to give on-the-spot fines to any SIA trained security guard who isn't displaying their licence.
I did my SIA course last month and they now mention Auditors 😊
NEVER forget DJ that it's NOT allowed. Pure playground talk. I pray for the day when an auditor says to these security guards it is allowed and gets on with it!

It always amazes me that this is the first point of contact with a visitor for the company, but Matalan decide to put the stupidest person they could find to deal with that.
bear in mind when a brain hasn't been used it takes a few weeks to get warmed up.
He's one of the most incompetent guards I've seen. Had no clue what to say or do, then when he knew he was in over his head he just gave up. Lol

I think it's 50/50. Not a fan, but he did say he follows DJ so is probably a subscriber. So technically he is entitled to one. Maybe the visit by DJ might make him realise that DJ is not a nasty person and might learn something from the videos DJ and others produce.

Approximately sixteen years ago I worked out of this depot delivering to there stores and although I was employed through a agency I was with them for three years, and in that three years my family and my extended family never had to buy any clothes, earning good money and clothed for free, 😊

The containers that the driver was hooking up to were positioned very close to each other. The driver had to squeeze between them and also crawl under the containers. Don't know the rules for this but it didn't look too safe to me.

Fire doors are internal and should remain shut to prevent the spread of a fire.
Fire exits are can be opened and often are (they don't work will otherwise ). This is the a choice of the company - not you.

They been parking their cars there for years so annoying when trying to get in and out with multiple lorries And you can thank ex allport drivers for that nice new door 😂

You missed out on a serious health and safety issue regarding the RDP hgv driver connecting to the trailer .
The trailers were that tightly parked together that the driver had to go underneath the trailer on his drivers side to allow him access to put the dog clip on his kingpin. This really is a serious health and safety breach and should be brought to the companies attention .

Actually I think he probably did highlight that when he was flying the drone but he had a editing issue and the narration audio wasn’t added to the video. (He said in another comment)

All these places urgently need Penetration assessments on the basis of the 4 median route elements of Adversarial, Accidental, Structural & Environmental. At the intersection of these four in a venn diagram predicts the facility Risk, which then directs positioning of security assets. If I was the insurance agent for Matalan there would be an urgent reassessment of premiums, seriously. "You can't photograph me!" yeah but I could come in your back door in a balaclava, cave your head in and drive my team right to your assets.

At 10:37 top left, the business with the large water tank is new, likely finishing up interior construction. Nov 2021 streetview shows structural steel being erected for NewCold Logistics, google aerial is pre-structural with earthwork mostly completed. NewCold provides deep freeze frozen food storage and transport. Based on the company's Corby webpage, the warehouse is not yet open.
At Matalan, streetview was 2012 and the prior sign was showing some fading, good catch on the new sign.

DJ, Every time a driver hasn't got clear access to a trailer there connecting up to on both sides and rear it compromises health and safety regulations. He shouldn't have needed to be scurrying under adjacent trailers to get to things. I do know because I've been a lorry driver for 30 years. Legally he's entitled to ask a shunter to pull it out for him or refuse to move it. Ask them about that in future when you see anything like that.

in front of entrance means what it says, not to the side or in the entrance but in front of it, parking in front of the entrance restricts the access and egress of articulated vehicles

Matalan went into receivership last week.
Street view 1 month later, security do not longer park a car there, it's behind the gate house.

They do own ‘some’ of the air space above them, but they don’t control that airspace , even if it IS at a height that they own.

For someone who seems so strict on laws and legalities, it surprises me that you ride around on an illegal e-bike.
In the video where the police tried to run you off the bike, I’m very surprised they didn’t try to pull the no insurance/license card. When you come across a jobsworth 👮♀️ they will try to do you for it one day 💯 %
