Amazing! :) I did miss the squeeling of breaks and passing sounds from the Atari version (nostalgia craves the version first played I guess).

This is a great looking remake. Definitely need to do this with more retro games!

This is pretty decent. Some suggestions:
    1) Separate the background layers, into at least 3 different parallax layers, that scroll at 3 different speeds. This will give the environment more 3d Depth.
    2) Ive seen your "Translucent Explosion"... and sorry man, but its Awful. Most explosions are NOT translucent... with only partial exception... nearest the very edges of the smoke. The Original explosion is much more enjoyable...
That said, if you can make a more Realistic explosion, that is similar to the Original... that would be great. Look over some Movie Footage, Racing Crash Footage, and Pyrotechnics footage... to see how these things REALLY look, frame by frame. You will notice that for the most part, you cant See thru the resulting Explosion, Dense Smoke, Initial Bright Flame burst, etc.
(Bad Translucent Explosions.. Are the one thing that has REALLY bothers me about many modern amateur games, as it is SO far off the mark visually, that it literally Disgusts me, and completely Ruins the Experience. And the thing is, there are SO many ways to get your hands on Examples of real explosion footage... so there really is no excuses for such bad graphics to be part of your game. Heck, even Sega's Ancient Afterburner II, has better Smoke Trails and Explosions, than many of todays Modern amateur 3D games)
    3) Physics Effects: It would also be nice to Model the crashes, to be semi-realistic, using some basic Physics. Such as having the Tires fly off... and if a tire hits a tree or sign.. it can bounce off of them in various directions. Signs being destructive, and able to be physically blown apart, would also be fun. One might add non-classic options, such as adding Hay bales, Tires, Race Fencing, gravel, etc.. on the sides of the roads.
In the Arcade game "Continental Circus 3D" parts from your car, (and other cars) as well as 3D smoke trails, would literally fly out of the screen. It was flippin Awesome. That said, that game always used the same animations.. rather than having actual Physics behind any of the Part Collisions. That said, a StereoScopic 3D mode for use with VR Glasses, would be Stellar.
    4) Arcade Monitor Texture / GRAIN. The thing about the original arcade game... is that when you see / play it on the original CRT monitors... the game looks completely different from Emulation on modern LCD monitors. The shadowmask of the CRT causes the graphics to look a little "Textured" rather than simple "Flat Filled, Colored in Areas". While you can always add scanline effects... scanlines are not the same as Shadowmask based effects... which are not really represented properly.
You might be able to apply a constant stream of randomized "GRAIN"... somewhat similar to the Grain that you see in Old Movies. Its subtle.. but if you pay close attention, you realize its there. With the grass, for example.. you might have some random pixels of slightly lighter and darker shades of green. These shades might be Barely noticeable in Color difference... but it will give the plain filled areas some "Texture", which will greatly improve both the Visible LOOK, and you will also get a much greater sense of Speed... as you will See these textures moving swiftly, as they scroll by.
    5) Enhanced Gameplay mode: It would be nice if SLOW speed hits only Spin the car around like in TX-1. And a potential mode for 4 gears, instead of 2, would also be cool. This would also probably require the potential for a greater Top speed.
    6) Sounds: The engine sounds on this are a bit too High Pitched / Harsh, for my ears. Lowering the tones will help with listening "Fatigue". Additionally, when you approach and pass other cars... there is not enough Audible Difference being heard. One might make change the Drone Cars tones to be a little different in their Engine sound... as well as Greatly Bump up the volume levels as they come closer to you (and drastically drop the volume as they pass). By vastly increasing the Dynamics of the Volume levels.. it will make it a lot easier to recognize the other cars 3d positions, around your car. (A surround sound option would be nice too). Some Reverb would be good... if you add in some Tunnels. Maybe some volume boosting, if you pass near walls (from reflecting sounds)
Potential additional sounds.. from parts bouncing and crashing into the road, signs, etc.
    7) Basic Lighting + Weather Effects... such as adding a "Sunset" mode. A Cloudy day. Possible Rain / Snow ? Modes. The sunset, for example, should be able to cast some warm yellowish lighting, onto signs.. that are facing those rays.
    8) Car Changes: One of the biggest things I noticed between the Original, and your car... is that the Original cars Tires sort of Vibrate and Bounce around (which makes them look a lot more like they are actually rotating). You can notice that there is a highlight on the tires that animates, and the tires themselves, seem to hop up and down a bit. It seems like the vibration effects of the tires is somewhat random.. but it might be based on the cars speed, speed changes, and or if you have just turned...etc. Also, the original cars tires appear to have "Rounded" edges... which makes them look a lot more realistic.
Additionally, the Car colors from Pole Position II, are a bit better, IMO... because the Red Spoiler sort of gets "LOST" as it mixes in with the rest of the cars red and orange Details. Where as the Spoiler on PP2 car is WHITE... and the rest of the car is Blue... which makes it much easier to make out the cars Details. As such, if you do not change it.. at least have the option to select the Cars color scheme.
As mentioned, some light texture "Grain" , would also Help with making the Tires appear to Visibly Spin more. The addition of wobble effect will help with that too.
    9) Drone Mods - One thing I loved in Continental Circus 3D, was how often the Drone cars would end up getting into Wrecks, as you got near them. This made things a lot more Exciting.. AND.. you have to be much more careful about how you drove... in order to Dodge these cars wreckages + flying parts. As such, it would be good to add the functionality of a Sliding level of "Drone Mistakes", as well as levels with increased "Traffic" congestion.
You can have combinations of events, where a drone will either:
    1) Drive way too slow (Engine Trouble)... making them a real danger as you will have to dodge them much faster...
    2) Smoke Trails (making it harder to see)
    3) Spin Outs on Curves
    4) Taking turns too wide + likely crashing as a result
    5) Taking turns too tight, cutting you off... or crashing into you... depending on the timing, and your driving skills
    6) Bumping / Crashing into other cars, even on the straight away sections... if there is a sudden traffic jam (or accident), and they dont brake fast enough
    7) Aggressive Drivers... that try to prevent you from Passing them. Randomized skill level (Chance), at each attempted measure to prevent your passing
    8) Potential Damage Tracking, And or Randomized Car issues
    A) Tire Wear (more slippage / higher accident potentials)
    B) Over-Heating / Smoking Engine
    C) Loss of certain Gearing ?
    D) Brake Failure
    E) Completely Blown Engine
    F) Axel / Tire damages.. making car drive very erratically / steer badly, crash
    G) Oil / Fluid spills, and or Wreckage parts on the road
    10) Indicators: It would also be good to have more Indicators, such as "Position" status. Potentially an Analog Speedometer, and Analog Tachometer, with a Gear Position status / graphic.
    11) Tracks: It might be interesting to have Hills, Overpasses, Underpasses, etc. As well as a Track Editor.. so that people could design their own Tracks.
    12) Possible Network connections, allowing for multi-player Races. Or at minimal, Split screen?
    13) Display Options: The ability to choose 4:3 ratio, or 16:9 Wide-Screen Aspect Ratio. OR... 3 Monitor Output, like seen in TX-1 and Buggy Boy. And as said... A Stereo 3D version, would be fantastic too.
    14) A Force Feedback Option. While the game should be played with a 360 degree spinner / 360 degree wheel...
One could also hack a rumble controller, and mount its vibrational motors to the under-side of your Steering Wheels control panel... for special vibrational effects, such as when you bump, crash, go off-road...etc.
OR, you could have the Option to use "Subwoofer" frequencies, to activate Bass-Shaker Transducers (they have a lot of bass shaker transducer options, at PartsExpress). These are often used in Racing Sim rigs... and they really add a lot to the experience.
    14) Possible Road Conditions:
    - Sunny
    - Sunset
    - Night Time (Track Lights needed. Lights on Cars too?)
    - Foggy
    - Light / Intermittent Rain
    - Heavy Rain
    - Rain Puddles
    - Windy (light to heavy gusts, cause your car to "Turn" and you have to counter the effect as needed, and to the correct degree )
    - Light Snow
    - Ice Patches
    - Oil Slicks
    - Track Debris
    15) FM Synth music like the Original, is Key. There is nothing like that Epic Opening "Synth Music". In fact, it would be really cool to make ALL of the sounds in the game, powered by an FM Synth Engine... something like the Yamaha DX7. Most of the Arcade games used FM Synth Chips... like Marble Madness (which I believe was the first Arcade game to be released in Stereo).
