Thanks! Super Hang On was one of my key inspirations for this so I'm glad you see the resemblance. I'd like to have added hills but I think the additional complexity would have put the STE over the edge :)

I never owned any Atari computers, I just had (still have) an Amiga and that constant complain of "Lazy ST ports" etc etc. Now I'd love to have this one on the Amiga :D It doesn't just looks like a technical feat, but also looks to be pretty fun to play. Great job :)

Theoretically the same binary should work unmodified on Falcon but it unfortunately doesn't work correctly on Hatari's Falcon emulation. Hopefully somebody will test it on a Falcon following the release, and we can take things from there in terms of any fixes required.
How many colors are displayed? Nice palette. The rest is also glorious of course. I had another question : do you think you could also play Amiga .MOD music files during the game ? Or would it slow down the frame rate ? Congratulations for your awesome work.
Hi Julien, and thanks for your kind words. I think there are around 32 colours on screen. Unfortunately, the STE (unlike the Amiga) has no hardware sound mixing, so playing a MOD file in-game would impact heavily on the framerate.
Impressive. Maybe you should get in touch with Retrogames, there’s a possibility they release an ST mini and this could be a great addition to the built in games. You should do something with the logo, though.

Yes - that was very much one of my objectives in creating this game ... to prove that the ST could do a racing game that wouldn't look out of place in the arcades :)

I've been testing on Hatari's Falcon emulation (don't have real hardware) and it's doing some very strange things. But I have no idea how far I can trust the emulation. Waiting patiently for somebody to ship me a real Falcon so I can test it on the real deal :)
This could potentially be ported to the Jaguar. However, everybody I've spoken to so far is adamant that a paid-for physical release should come first, whereas I want the game to be available as a free ROM image from day 1.
@@gridleaderretro Given the work put in, it would only be fair for you to see some of the fruits of your labor. Concerning the Jaguar you could work with Cyrano Jones from Atari Ages to adapt the code for the Atari Fauve and market it in boxes. Jaguar fans like me will buy it, even though it's available for free on the Atari ST. In any case, the game looks general. Does it run on a basic ST or is an STE required? It's a good job!

I don't feel that a direct ST port would be enough in this case (even if the Jaguar-owning demographic might disagree). The source will be made available shortly after the STE version is released, so theoretically anybody could attempt a port to Jaguar without my involvement. The ST version is STE-only by the way - I don't believe the STFM could do this feature set at this framerate.
@@gridleaderretroI read that the blitter on the STE is difficult to set up for the CPU. The Jaguar blitter forces the CPU to shuffle 16bit words around. Something which in times of cheap registers had no priority on JRISC. Feels like Flare developed the Blitter for ARM with its forced barrel shift in every instruction. Or this CPU in MortalKombat. I think it is pure 16bit. So I may dislike ObjectProcessor quite a lot, but here it is the better option.
This is going to be amazing. Your masterpiece so far. My only request is that you provide as way to compensate you somehow, even if you drop them ROM for free. Didn't have to be money, but I feel we of the ST community owe you something for having built this.
Sadly not - I'm primarily a graphics programmer and don't know much about things like serial link. But I will be releasing the source if anybody wants to have a go at hacking it in.

Ah yes, Euduro on the 2600 is one of my key inspirations for this game, along with Super Hang-on, and (obviously) WEC Le Mans. No gimmicks, stunts or power ups - just plain and simple arcade racing :)
The game mechanics aren't wildly different from something like Pole Position. However, the intention was never to create anything original or genre busting - the point is to show that racing games on this generation of hardware don't need to be slow and sluggish.

We don’t really care. Many Amiga owners seems to have many problems with their unsolved teenage ego stuff "i have a bigger one than yours". That’s a shame at 50 or so to have unsolved this problem..

Not competing , but what is value for money, performace, repairs, etc. Many factors. Like comparing rich mans car to a poor mans. Cant really do it. What suits you budget, good design and bad design. This is a FAKE game like most Amiga and Atari ST racing games. Simply put your finger on the car you drive in the game....watcth the video...the car NEVER moves! the screen does. Pathetic gimmick...even Batman the Movie game scene where you drive the Batmobile is actually a better racing game than most Amiga and Atari ST racing games... the care actually moves from left to right...AKA you conrol the CAR and not the Screen like in this game.
Just like the arcade versions of Out Run, Super Hang-On and WEC Le Mans where the vehicle never moves and the screen does! They're all so FAKE and terrible! Absolutely awful games that should definitely be consigned to the dustbin of history!
@@gridleaderretro On those Arcades you will notice: Higher frame rates, Wayy better Graphics.....AND this was something Fairly New...so nobody had anything to compare them to except Pole Position. Its lazy Programming to keep the car in the center and just move the screen. Try games where the care can move a bit to the left and right and you will see you feel like you are controlling it. I think RoadBlasters does it....and many others. But Batman the Movie for the Amiga in the Car driving level shows what it feels like.

Of course the graphics are simpler than the arcade games - the hardware is much weaker. It's only to be expected. What matters is how well the game is making use of the host hardware. I really love receiving feedback on my game and discussing retrogaming in general. But poorly researched opinions presented as facts just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Grid is totally right in his answer, proving your arguments are weak. We are still waiting for your long list of games with the car not in the center. Maybe you can also prove us the Atari STE is as powerful in terms of graphics and scrolling than the 1985 Sega Arcade 16 System ?

Take a look again at: Roadblasters, Overlander on the Amiga and Batman The Movie on The Amiga.... The car Turns to the left alot and smoothly and take the screen with it (Particularly Overlander on the Amiga) it gives the feel you are controlling it more...and Outrun the car tilts Forward and Up on Hills. But Lamborghini Challenge on the Amiga is what I am mostly referring to...it moves off the center... Thats ALL I am saying! Apart from that this game here in this Video looks Super Great!

Which really makes it more like Hang-On rather than Super Hang-On. You could probably make a good Hang-On clone based on what you've created here.

The engine sound has been created by project team member Junosix - possibly from the BBC sound effects archive.

I have no plans for hills in this game. Maybe in a future game, although it might mean dropping the 50fps framerate to 25fps.
