The most concise and best video on this subject - complete with schematic diagram and test procedure including a full explanation of how the system works. Absolutely the best.
Basic electricity, I already knew the whole thing but stayed and watched the entire video because of the way you explain things which is like watching Netflix
Thank you very much. You just same me a towing & fixing fee. You explanation is really good, sharp & precise. Thank you again to make these kinds of video. You are a great help to the community. Mine is a 2003 Chevy Express 2500. Exact same as yours.
I am absolutely impressed with your knowledge! Please keep up the great work! I like the way you cover the diagrams and explain them in detail. I like the way you go over the relays in detail! I never get tired of you teaching...even if you have covered the same info before I get excited every time I see you post a video! Don't change a thing Bro!
Learned a lot watching the video, bought the tools you suggested, waiting on them to come in. I was able to jump the relay today and verify engine will crank, but not getting 12v on the coil side of the starter relay, only 2.6v measured with my meter.
Great explanation of the starter circuit. But for the DIY, wouldn't you recommend starting checking the voltages at starter terminals first. Probable cause says it would be the starter motor or it's connecting wires. Then if it checks out, follow it back to the relay in the fuse box.
Eric thanks for running us thru the starter wiring schematic. Even if I know how it is wired it never hurts to keep going over it. Eric my guess is it’s a company vehicle that relay cover will still be missing when you get it again. Thanks for sharing stay safe and well Artie 😊
Just had this happen, 2008 Chevy Express 3500 6.0 engine. Everything checked out just fine. Decided to very carefully warm the starter and solenoid up with indirect heat from a small torch because it was 5 below last night and viola! It then started right up...
Great on-site info and production. My starter relay was almost as corroded as that. I wire brushed it and things are better. Hopefully i don’t have to replace the starter motor just yet. Thank you.
Your videos are very detailed and well thought out in diagnosing electrical problems.. I have my work cut out for me with a mini cooper.thank you so much for your time making great videos
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION MYAN YOU EXPLAIN REALLY GOOD AND ALWAYS ON THE POINT UNLIKE SOME OTHERS WHO WASTE 1/2 HOUR OF TALKING AND THEN TELL YOU ITS THE STARTER WHICH HE COULD NOT HIMSELF FOUND UT THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM. THANKS AGAIN MUCH APPRECIATED
Sometimes I feel you over simplify things but realize it’s all for the acknowledgment of proper diagnosis. I’ve been burned throughout my career by skipping steps as well. Good job as always. Now onto the next job.
Thanks for going over the wiring diagram for newbs. I have advanced education, speak several languages, and electrical has been so hard, humbling for me, so frustrating....for years. But this video really made it clear. Thankyou!
BAM! WHAM! take that with all the details needed to understand this particular starting circuit(s). Though he does not mention the BCM is also in the game, if the power reaches the relay, it means the BCM is talking to the ECM... so, all good... and obviously the issue is on the ECM side. Within a few seconds into this video, watching this individual for the first time ever, I could feel this is done as needs to be done to help anyone who may not have any information about the circuits. I am going to look for a video of his that treats the BCM side. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Liked and Subscribed. note: this particular setup may not go thru the ECM via BCM...
good job! my 2019 chevy express 2500 is not trying to start so this helps me to focus on the right troubleshooting method. Luckily I'm at home but it's raining and the battery is only 1 year old.
As others have already said, you're born teacher. That's something you can not learn, either you have that in you or don't. There are real professionals out there but not everyoune has talent for teaching. Paul danner is certainlly one of the best. I don't know if you have his knowledge and experience, but in my opinion you're good in teaching as he is. I live in Europe in Serbia. Although we have mainly diesels, as Paul have said, theese principles applies to them also.
I apologize for sending a message during your life thing but I don't do live I am really looking forward to seeing that car collection from two months ago hopefully you still are planning to put that out just was letting you know I'm eagerly anticipating it and I hope you are feeling better and everything is back to normal for you cheers
This is a great video, thanks! I have a similar problem. Thought I was having a starter issue, and I went under to check voltage to the small wire and I didn't see any. I applied voltage to the small wire with the power probe, and I got nothing. I accidentally hit the small and large terminal at the same time and bang it turned over. I guess my point is you can test the starter that way too. The van I am working on has an aftermarket remote start and alarm system which I think may be causing the problem, not really looking forward to that. Next step, check relay and neural safety I guess. This happened out of the blue last week. I can start the van if I go under with a screwdriver and jump the terminals
Those four pin relays have the control side pins and the load side pins diagonal from each other so it will still work if you plug the relay in backward. Useless trivia lol
Automotive wiring diagrams are my weak point. Thank for explaining the diagram thoroughly. So I gather that the dashed line means that not all of the components that are actually within the dashed line are being shown? Thanks for your awesome vids, sir!!!
I've watched this video a couple times over trying to figure out MY issue. Van starts with the key in the ON position, before I can even get to the crank position & keeps the starter engaged while running. Once it starts I have to pull the starter relay out to get the starter to disengage. Any help with this would be GREATLY APPRECIATED
where are you located? i need to bring my van to you! i got an electrical problem, the left and right blinkers are blinking super fast but all bulbs are working fine...also its an intermittent problem, they will blink fast for a few months then theyll work normally for a month or 2 then go back to blinking super fast for a few months and so on. no one can figure it out, i was gonna bring it to the dealership but i dont trust them
Why not jump a wire from the correct starter relay post to the battery and see if the starter turns over? If it doesn't, that's probably the problem. I'm going through this with my 2005 Tahoe, and it didn't turn it over but then it would turn over with the key whenever it felt like it, so I think it's a bad solenoid or rusted connections at the starter. It's at the shop now.
Esse , you don't BULLSHIT when it comes time to be under the hood ! YOUR the best in the BUSINESS BECAUSE the best never Rest !! You send all my locos to school ! !
I know this video is older but I have a strange conundrum with a family members Van. It is a 2006 Chevy express 1500 4.3 V6. Some mornings you can crank it and it starts fine and runs great. Shut it off immediately and it will crank but it skips and jumps and will not start. Eventually it will disengage the starter and you will hear the Bendix. Very strange. New battery. 🤔 When it skips and jumps there is a noticable stain on the engine. Any thoughts?
I was scratching my head wondering why, at 10:17, you get a ground on that second pin. I think it's more than "ghost voltage". These systems are more complicated than the wiring diagrams would have one believe, for some reason it looks like they ground the ignition circuit when the key is not in. I wonder why, perhaps a security feature.
Hey how you doing my name is Ralph I recently became an owner of a 2014 Chevy spark base model. That was involved in a accident which was just basically cosmetics replace the bumper replace the headlights replace the hood about the change the front fenders. I have power in the car no crank I have checked the fuses I've even got a new ignition switch try dad still same issue so I put the other one back in. Any idea I could really use some help here please thank you
hey i need help i was driving my 1999 chevy express 3500 motor 5.7 i was driving and then it died now theres no spark i replace the crank shaft and theres still no spark on the wires i replace the ignition coil and no spark i was told that maybe the timingbelt but i know this motors have chain timming
My 2008 van was dead no spark at terminal I cleaned them got spark with battery charger let it charge for 20 seconds it started smoking out relay what could cause this
where are you located at? Anybody as good as you that you can recommend in Houston, Texas. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra keep stalling on me! I think it have the same problem as in your Video for Toyota Tundra stalling!
Man, it’s not only about your great knowledge and talent it’s also about how good communicator you are. Thanks for sharing this with us.
…and video production and youtube publication 👍👍
The most concise and best video on this subject - complete with schematic diagram and test procedure including a full explanation of how the system works. Absolutely the best.
You're a natural born teacher dude, keep it coming, and I never even cared much for most of my teachers, lol.
Basic electricity, I already knew the whole thing but stayed and watched the entire video because of the way you explain things which is like watching Netflix
Have you considered being a teacher? Excellent job explaining the starter circuit!
Maybe sometime in the future. Thanks for watching!
The homie is a teacher already, I've learnt alot from him, over here in Nigeria, west Africa.

@@damiadedapo5363 happy to see a Nigerian
what a nice teacher u r every step explaing at grose root level thanks alot keep it up.
Love the video's, someone that actually can troubleshoot and doesn't just load up the parts cannon. Keep up the good work!
Your not Boring so i keep on watching your channel

Dude, very clear and straight to the point. good job.
Like how direct and simple you explain stuff makes it much easier to understand
Fantastic video, very helpful in determining why my Chevy Express van will not start. Thanks!

Great job explaining the circuit. You would be a great instructor. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Excellent explanation. I see a future teacher here. Great job explaining wiring diagrams . God bless.
excellent video and thank you. Love the step by step diagnosis. Not just throwing parts at it. Good job.

You making me feel like I'm a real mechanic 😁 Great video
Just got my relay tester today. Yeah. Launch comes Sunday excited
You'll love the Launch!
Eric thanks for running us thru the starter wiring schematic. Even if I know how it is wired it never hurts to keep going over it. Eric my guess is it’s a company vehicle that relay cover will still be missing when you get it again. Thanks for sharing stay safe and well Artie 😊
Great Video. Thanks for the lesson- Plain and simple!

AWESOME info and the way u showed how the circuit tied together and as always enjoyable to watch Mr. ERIC got the job done. cheeeeeeeeeers
That was a great vid!! Always enjoy your use of the wiring diagrams. That power probe is sweet!

One note: it would be more thorough to mention the Voltage on each circuit. i.e. is it a 12V, 5V reference, low Reference !?
good job! my 2019 chevy express 2500 is not trying to start so this helps me to focus on the right troubleshooting method. Luckily I'm at home but it's raining and the battery is only 1 year old.

excellent info, excellent delivery, excellent explaination . Thanks you are a good tech !!!!
The Power probe is one of my favorite tools🔥
Me too!

Excellent job maestro thank you for sharing your knowledge God blesses you
That felt good when it started up!! Nice video bro !!!

Great work Eric. Love your teaching videos
You can also do the jump test at the relay??

I am a mobile mechanic! I recommend that people get a matco relay tester. Saves time
Love the way you explain it all. You should be teaching at mechanics school. You would be great at it.
Those four pin relays have the control side pins and the load side pins diagonal from each other so it will still work if you plug the relay in backward. Useless trivia lol
Don't worry about the negative comments, you're doing a great job keep up the good work and thanks for all the info 👍✌️
Hi from dubai. Like always best information videos. Thanks alot

Wonder how they bypassed anti-theft system....
Great walk through on testing the circuit and nice kicks 👍
Very informative video.

What website do you get these pinout diagrams from?
So I replaced the starter on mines and checked for power on the fuse box. And it still won’t crank.Any advise?
Gracias solucionaste mi problema 😊
Nicely done.
good job as always.
Thank you
great video. just curious if this car has a diagnostic port ? does it tell if the starter is ok ?

I have the same question of why that pin shows ground when the ignition key is not on RUN ?
Hermano clase magistral! Gracias!
Maybe add a link to print out that wiring schematic.

2nd time watching, good learning on repeat 👍👍, Thanks Man very good teacher 👍
Fantastic video man!
Are you located in CA or have a shop?
My 2008 van was dead no spark at terminal I cleaned them got spark with battery charger let it charge for 20 seconds it started smoking out relay what could cause this
Excellent Explanation!!!
Another great vid, thanks Eric. 👍
Made it easy! Good video
I can't figure out what the problem is with mine but it only starts when I jump it
This is good classes, thank you👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👋👌✌
Impressive work thanks. New sub here
Thanks for a great video. More importantly, how do I find a guy like you near where I live? I could really use a good local mechanic 🙂
where are you located at? Anybody as good as you that you can recommend in Houston, Texas. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra keep stalling on me! I think it have the same problem as in your Video for Toyota Tundra stalling!
Thank you to Share videos
Excellent, thank you
