- For some inexplicable reason I've never watched Battlestar Galactica, so lets remedy that! Starting with the miniseries, I am SO EXCITED to finally embark on this journey. So say we all!
Remember this is not a substitute for watching the actual show. If you haven't seen it, please do so and then come back to the video afterwards.

This is probably my most re-watched series of all time. There aren't a whole lot of TH-camrs reacting to it so I'm always glad to see someone else finding it. Plus I know you're going to LOVE it.
So much excellence to come ✊ #AllOfThisHasHappenedBefore
Hey Sonny did you watch the original Battlestar Galactica from the 1970’s? OG Cylons and their baseships from that series are shown in the gift shop.
Hope you're excited to see Katee Sackhoff in her role as Starbuck. ❤
Long before she was casted as Bo Katan, we knew her mostly as Starbuck.
I still do. Had to look up who Bo Katan was.
Starbuck is so far her best role. She can do great dynamic work with the right material (kinda what I was hoping for with Bo Katan, but SW Mandoverse roles are written very flat and pretty 2D, maybe on purpose 🤷🏻♂️)
I like to think of her as Vic Moretti from Longmire.
@@deanthemachine7489 they don't really have the time to develop characters much in such short episodes and seasons. One of the biggest faults of filoni star wars content is that it kinda requires you to have seen all of it for the "3D" view of any part of it. Its both a good thing and a bad thing.
@@wb3159 I think Andor showed how great it could be with better writing and longer seasons. I don’t think SW should strip away its pulp roots especially when you see stuff like Mandalorian season 1 being dramatically better by just taking time to build a character in a relatively smaller scale story. I think tying in too many things from prior shows, cartoons, and movies limits what the writers, directors, and actors can do with exploring the setting.
You proved yourself to be a true sci-fi nerd when you recognized the Serenity ship. Yes, that was an intentional Easter egg put in there by the FX crew.
I’ve watched this whole series a dozen times and never noticed the serenity
@@heesoo18 As far as I know, it was ONLY in that scene in the first part of the miniseries, flying in the establishing shot of the doctor's office building (hospital?) where the Secretary/President is getting her initial diagnosis. As I recall, they didn't get permission to do it, it was just a kudos nod from the FX crew, and through the first season was also co-commissioned by Sky (UK) and Sci-Fi Channel (US), like the miniseries was, the entire studio production was from NBC, which means Universal, whereas Firefly/Serenity were Fox properties, so they didn't want to risk doing it more. I'm not even sure the director or producers were told about it at all until after the fact.
@@heesoo18same. I was equal parts amazed, impressed and annoyed...
There's a shot of the Enterprise in the fleet at some point, can't remember where though. Its a long time since I watched the show. Pretty sure the agricultural ship is the Valley Forge from 'Silent Running' as well.
There is also the Enterprise in one of the space shots
This series is in my personal top 3 of all time. It's a work of art, the acting, the plot, everything
Same. There are a couple dud episodes and the ending could be better, but overall it is my favorite scifi show of all time and like you, in my top 3 of all shows.
I am so happy that FINALLY BSG is getting some reactors! This was my favourite series for many years, and boy are you in for a ride :)
Also found another not long ago, with awesome reaction channel. ;)
@@MolnarG007 Casual Nerd is into season 2 now.
This show is fantastic and is definitely one of my top five sci-fi shows of all times. And in many ways a show ahead of its time. Hope you enjoy.
Wow I can't believe someone I watch is now starting this amazing show. I got a feeling you'll love it!!
Yes that was serenity, 2 people that worked on both shows Jarrod Davis an animator for Firefly, and then a digital artist for Battlestar Galactica and later the Firefly sequel and Lee Stringer who was a CGI supervisor on both series put it there as a little easter egg
Very happy to see this reaction. BSG has been missing from the reactor world for too long. Great reaction by the way.
Hard to believe it's been 20 years. I was obsessed with the show when it first came on.
Same here. And i even rewatched it completely like two times later on DVD.
I’m a man in my 30s who never thought much about kids, but now I have a two year old and I know EXACTLY what you mean. I can barely watch certain things now that used to not phase me at all. Plenty of people alluded to the protective instinct, but I really understand now what it means!
For the first year or so after having a kid I couldn't really stomach violent movies in general, but scenes with children suffering were just too much.
Well, I'm a woman with no children and I can't handle watching children suffer or at the hands of violence. 🤷♀
Yes Michael Hogan was the voice of Bailey in Mass Effect as you yourself and several other commenters have said. It should also be noted that Tricia Helfer (Number Six) was the voice of Edi from Mass Effect 2 and 3.
Omg, you're actually watching BSG!!! That's so AWESOME!!!! I so totally envy you seeing it for the first time.
I'm VERY excited for the journey you're about to undertake!
30:38 This is the moment we all loved Helo. So gosh darned brave. I tear up every time seeing him alone waving goodbye. I would hope I could be as brave in his place.
LETS. FREAKING. GO!
So ready to take this amazing journey with you 🙌 One of the few DVD box sets I own!
don't you mean "LETS.FRACKING.GO!" ? =D
Let's fracking go!
So say we all!!!
I wish Doctor WHo came back with the same incredible creativity and risk taking that they used for Battalestar's comeback. Really remarkable show.
YOURE GOING TO LOVE THIS SERIES, ITS TOP TIER. Yes that was Serenity, there are MANY easter eggs in this series.
They even give a call out TNG with the number 47. 🖖
This reboot was so well done, and stands up almost 20 years later.
The length of the opening shot on Galactica is incredible, the amount of detail u get about multiple characters and plot and the history of the vessel is brilliant as the camera & actors move seemlessly through this scene.
Yes, the mini series was done as a test to see if there was a demand for the series. And Yes, a series was greenlit after the mini series. You're in for an awesome ride!
Frak!!! You're so lucky to watch this wonderfull show for the first time! So much emotion, so much good music, so much great characters during those 4 seasons. Be ready for this journey, so say we all!!!
You have officially started what I believe is the best sci-fi show of all time. I'm looking forward to this. As I'm sure you've picked up on, it's not a cute, cuddly type of story. It's very dark, gritty and does a fantastic job of showing the human element in the most dire of circumstances. I can't wait to see your take on it!
Welcome to the BSG family! It's a great show and has held up over time. Enjoy the ride!
Excited to see someone new getting into BSG. Be aware, the episodes 2x10 - Pegasus, Razor (tv movie takes place between eps 2x17 and 2x18), 3x09 - Unfinished Business, 4x12 - A Disquiet Follows My Soul, 4x18 - Islanded In A Stream Of Stars and the final ep, 4x19 - 4x21 Daybreak ALL have extended cuts. In this series, Battlestar Galactica, I ALWAYS recommend watching the extended cuts over the broadcast cuts. Just a heads up. I hope you enjoy the series. So Say We All!
You won't regret watching this series! It's so good, if you can handle the aged CGi from S1 then you'll be gucci!
I’m so glad a lot of channels are picking up this show. It’s really great!
I knew before starting the video that the baby scene would get to you. I guess it establishes right from the start that they are a real threat. They are not human even if some of them look like they are.
Yes ! This show is GREAT, with amazing characters and writing, I hope you enjoy it 😁
This is the show that made modern series viable productions to be made, without it there would be no Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Boys, Breaking Bad and so on!
About time! It's my favourite space-op tv show, Kat, as a teacher should really watch it too, many thematics will resonate with her!
The infant scene is an example of a spectacular character writing (and acting). Gives you so much complex initial information about Six beyond a simple "here's our villain" in such a condensed way.
Awesome sci-fi story. I'm happy to see you're reacting to it. :)
I, too, was appalled by the scene where #6 killed the baby, but I've seen it suggested that it was a mercy killing. This makes sense, since she said to the baby "You're not going to have to cry much longer." 🤷♀️
Considering the Cylon preoccupation with reproduction, and procreation, particular the Sixes, A malicious, seemingly randon killing of a infant seems out of character
@@knavehart Except she saw it as a mercy by sparing the baby the horror of the actual nuclear attack that's about to occur.
Of course, the dark irony of it is, she's the one who worked to make it possible for the Cylons to launch that particular attack, so that "mercy" she thinks she's giving the baby is utterly meaningless
It's not just (arguably) the best sci-fi series of all time. It's arguably one of the best series of all time in generall.
Fantastic! You're in for quite a ride. You're gonna love it. This is the pinnacle of what sci-fi CAN be.
One of the greatest science fiction dramas ever made, you're in for a great ride.
Oh this is really happening, count me on board this journey. It's a really good show. :D
So excited to see your reactions to this series!! 😄 Battlestar is my #1 favorite show. You’re in for an amazing, emotional, unforgettable ride!
You're in for an amazing, emotional, unforgettable ride. That's exactly what my ex-wife said before she walked out the door, never to be seen again LOL.
My favourite sci-fi show
OMG - amazing news. Looking forward to follow your journey :)
Hell yes! I needed an excuse to rewatch BSG after not having done so in many, many years now. Man, I almost forgot how great it is from the jump! I can't wait to follow this reaction series... might have to sub to the Patreon to stay more up to date with you as you experience what is very likely my second favorite sci-fi television series of all-time and generally just one of my favorite shows period!
Lol...ME TOO!!
I'll be rewatching along with Sonny, for sure!
It was a couple of years ago now, that I rewatched. 😅
(Think I've seen every episod, atleast THREE (3) TIMES!! )
and to think the series just slowly but surely gets more and more intense as it goes on, and all without a brake.
My favorite show of all time. Enjoy the ride! (Also, Grace Park is a goddess.)
So glad you started your BSG journey. One of the best SF series of all time. Your in for amazing time
This is one of the best shows ever made. Highly underrated.
in the end six killing the baby was an act of merci, from a certain point of view, look at her immediate reaction again. tells you a lot about her already
I'm very excited to watch your reactions to this show.
Welcome to BSG, you may enjoy the original 1978 show too (much more old school Star Wars in feel), interestingly you mentioned Ralph McQuarrie designs as a lot of the original show was based on his designs (Vipers, Raiders etc) some of his failed designs for BSG would later turn up in Buck Rodgers too. The show this version of BSG feels more like is the criminally underrated 'Space Above and Beyond' , which is well worth a watch too.
I'm so happy for you to discover this extraordinary great tv-show. I loved it and have watched it multiple times. Great first reaction, I'm looking forward to your journey. SO SAY WE ALL! ♥
Way back when I had a difficult time getting into the miniseries. But I watched the first episode of the show proper on the recommendation of a roommate and it hooked me. Went back to the miniseries and watched the last three seasons as they aired. Best show.
Suggestion: Do Not watch the intros of each episodes! They show previews of that episode.
on one hand, the makers of the show deliberately put that in. So, the audience was literally *_intended_* to see them.
But yes, if I were reacting to it for the first time, I could not look. I would much prefer they had done "Previously On" instead of flashing upcoming hints.
one of my favorite shows. Never expected it to be as good as it was. Looking forward to the reactions
I was hooked on this series
Very glad that you have started this legendary series, enjoy)
For as great as the SFX are here, and the story lines, my favorite thing about this show are the characters. And not just the main ones, but the ‘secondary” characters are just as intriguing. Two of my favorites are only given limited screen time in this miniseries.
Get ready for the ride of your life with the best show ever made, imo. This show launched a ton of careers - Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, etc. They couldn't have picked better established actors (Olmos and McDonnell) for the leaders, the top two billed actors.
Finally! I am so glad that you are watching one of my favorite shows. Tusen takk Sonny =D
The nukes are portrayed fairly accurately as far as I understand it. There is no shockwave in space, only intense heat and radiation that dissipates extremely quick according to the inverse square law. The flash of heat and radiation will last a few milliseconds and then be gone. Radiation is mostly fast neutrons, which are paradoxically less harmful than slow neutrons. The hull of the ship is also supposed to be quite thick, and the overall size is about a kilometre in length, so this is a very large ship.
All in all, fairly believable, actually.
Glad to see you taking on such a landmark touchstone as the reimagined BSG. This is going to be a wild ride with some stellar writing.
Cheers man 🍺
Very happy to see you watching this excellent series! I believe you will enjoy it! So, "grab your gun and bring in the cat."
Casual, though proud BSG fan here. IIRC...... Notice that all of the paper in scenes have notched corners. While it is aesthetically cool, the prop masters came to regret the design, as they lamented spending so much time altering regular paper into notched, for no functional reason.
Super excited to be going on this journey with you and look forward to Major Dad cameos whenever he can join in!
I am glad you have started with the series Sonny!
Autocorrect on my phone is doing what it can to stop me writing in english - a first hand Cylon experience I guess, so I will be brief.
This is very serious, sometimes harrowing show dealing with serious subjects and only because it was successful we got the Expanse on a tv screen. It has some similarities, but remains much different story with its own, different setting.
Your channel was the very first reaction channel I've decided to follow so I wish you both all the best and please enjoy the show!
Take care!
P.S. I apologise for aby weird mistakes - autocorrect/Cylon virus made writing this short comment a real challange.
Wow! This is very exciting! Galactica is such a fantastic show! I came to it after it's initial run myself but as a huge fan of the 70s show as a kid. I'm very much looking forward to watching your reactions! :)
I'm watching part 1 of Galactica with you. A series I have watched 16 times at last count. It has so many layers, the 2 most prominent to me are the number of humans left and the dynamics of human vs. their creation, the Cylons. From my first viewing of this series I have thought that this is truly cautionary tale. I have reccomended this show to everyone I know because I think it is such an important story of our possible future if we continue developing AI. I love how emotionally involved already. Oh, and Helo is my favorite, he always does the right thing. I hope you get as much out of Battlestar as I have. Just keep the number of people left. Even here watching this for the 17th time, it still stirs my soul. Welcome aboard, Darlin'!
As a Star Wars fan, I've been following you for a while now.... It's so awesome that you finally started the incredible cool series!
You will experience so much emotional depth, psychological and philosophical issues!!!
Awesome, awesome, awesome!
Keep at it, take your time! THANK YOU!
All the best from Germany!
NO FREAKING SPOILERS chat please, I know you’re gonna be cool 👊
Can you really spoil a show this old? Seems like most of us have seen it. Whatever.
Okay, no spoilers! SO SAY WE ALL!
@@prollins6443 As you know there’s a ton of twists and turns, don’t want anything spoiled for Sonny. And yes while old he doesn’t know anything about it, so can absolutely be spoiled. Lets support a true, pure reaction! So say we all!
@HoopleHeadUSA Im just glad for another opportunity to see Tricia Helfer and another lady later in the series!!!!
@@prollins6443 Yes, I’m afraid I’d be giving away info as well 😂
I think you meant no FRAKING spoilers 😂
Such a phenomenal series. So excited to rewatch this with you!
I actually recently started rewatching this series. And yeah that’s the Serenity alright, the FX folks put heaps of Easter eggs in for eagle eyed fellow geeks.
Funnylilgal gave a good shout out for this. Awesome reaction!
Oh man I love this show (overall). Looking forward to joining you on your journey aboard the Galactica!
I'm really looking forward for you watching this awesome Series.
From your first impression and reaction I bet you're going to like this a lot - It is my favorite SciFi TV Shows and one of the best ever made. (groundbreaking in the way they shot the Space-Battles on a TV-Show, for example)
The Cast is stunning and you'll love watching them grow during the Seasons coming.
Oh and by the way -- that was a nice catch, it was indeed the Serenity/Firefly taking of the Planet that you seen! 😉👍🏼
Can't wait for Part 2 and then the Series... greetings from Germany,
Uwe
One of the best ever made is correct,I even thought this show was better than TNG,DS9 and Voyager. And this coming from a trekkie. LOL.
This was written and produced by some who worked on DS9 and you can tell right away their science fiction writing process was a well oiled machine by the time they started to produce BSG.
As they say in the Commentary track for this Mini-series, Part 1, when the scene happened where Six kills ths baby, they saw a Ratings drop off there when it first aired back in 2003. Because like you, it triggered a lot of folks. But for a lot of people, including fans of the original series it was likevan "OK...We're actually going there in this series..." kind of moment, and people then knew that this series was gonna be quite different in tone than the original.
Yes, the graphics company that did serenity, went on to do this show. That was their homage to their previous work.
Fuck YES.
This is my favorite show of all time. It was one of those shows where it was absolutely excruciating waiting a week for a new episode back in the day. So excited you're watching it. I think you'll really enjoy it.
I’m so happy you’ve started watching this!
Ohhhh it's my favourite show of all time!! Let's go!!!
There are webisodes (just 10 two to five minute mini episodes called “The Resistance”) that fit between seasons 2 and 3. They aren’t *essential*, but they’re good and they do add to the story of season 3.
If you want a little smile, check out the photos from Lyndon Johnson's inauguration.
Dude, you're in for a Sci-Fi treat. BSG, or nuBSG (as opposed to BSG:TOS or BSG78) is considered one of the greatest TV shows ever. Not just Sci-Fi, but TV in general. It's basically just a human drama story that just happens to take place in Space. There are so many twists and turns, emotional ups and downs in this series that it'll keep you in the edge of your seat. BSG was the MUST SEE TV event from 2004 to 2009. It was the water cooler zeitgiest talk of the town during those years. And while not knowing anything about this "world" its somewhat beneficial to have seen the original 78 to 80 series. That series ran just one season, from 78 to 79. But they resurrected it in 1980 with a slightly different feel, and most fans only consider one episode in it worth watching..."The Return of Starbuck"
Unfortunately the original series never got to finish the story, but this 2003/4 series did with 4 full seasons.
Babylon 5 will probably always hold top place of all sci-fi shows in my book. If you haven't seen B5 yet, I do recommend it.
But Battlestar Galactica is an *_extremely_* close second. I mean, we're talking photo finish here. You are in for one hell of a ride.
1. B5
2. The Expanse
3. BSG Reboot
Honorable Mention: DS9
@@txheadshots...if only Firefly were longer...
@@richardsteiner8992 maybe? I love Firefly but could Whedon have turned it into another Buffy - running for many more seasons and beloved by fans all over (never got into Buffy, myself)… who knows
I've known the original Battlestar Galactica series from when I was a little kid, so I knew the rough plot and some of what would happen. This Miniseries still blew me away. The original was a child of the 70's and we were lucky it wasn't just another copy of Star Wars. It did ride on Star Wars' coat tails though.
It was it's own thing and rather well done on a TV budget at the time.
The new series was respectful to the original. For example, the old Vipers? Were the ones from the original. The music during the ceremony? The theme music from the original. The names of the other Battlestars? You guessed it, all names from the original. So there was a lot for the fans, but you didn't loose anything or got distracted if you didn't know the original.
And trust me, most of us also weren't ready for this series, even knowing the original.
And I didn't mind the changes to the original.
I'm gonna rewatch all of this with you, thanks Sonny!
I'm so excited you're reacting to Battlestar Galactica 😭! It's one of my favorite shows ever.
Thank you for doing this! This might be my favorite sci-fi show of all time. Two things I suggest you watch before getting to the full series (or ASAP if you have already started): First, there is a hilarious nod to this series on "Portlandia." Look on YT for an extended cut of Portlandia's Battlestar Galactica "review." Second, I have seen on YT the pilot for the original series in the 1980s (for which there was a movie). Watch that 2-hour (90 minutes without commercials) pilot episode. It's not vital to enjoy this show, but it's interesting to see how bad the special effects were, but also an interesting parallel with this mini-series, how horribly cheesy it was, but also to enjoy the gender swap of Starbuck along with other differences. It will also give you a nice basis for the overall concept of the original series, which will tie in with the concept of the new, "re-imagined" series. The fact that it's a little different and yet similar (and the origin of the new one, since the atttack on Caprica by the Cylons in the 1980s series is the attack that is in Caprica's "history" in the 2000s series), add to the intrigue of the new show. Sorry Kat can't join you, but I'm happy to see your analysis on your own.
I appreciate how the historical tech shown from the war of forty years prior resembles that of the original series I viewed in the 70s.
27:54 Ronald D. Moore the showrunner was a Naval cadet in college. He patterned a lot of the characters and their decorum on the US Navy.
finally someone who i like reacting to this show ... it is amazing show and i enjoyed your first reaction looking forward for more ...
I like that you noticed the Firefly-class transport in the background. Most people miss it on the first viewing. The same VFX team that worked on Firefly did the CGI for Battlestar Galactica, so they added a few Easter Eggs like that in for viewers to see. They actually did the same thing in Firefly a couple of times. If you look closely at the scene where Serenity is coming in for a landing at the crowded spaceport on Persephone (where they meet that petty crime lord "Badger"), you can see a Lambda-class shuttle from Star Wars taking off, as well as a Mobquet Medium Transport (a freighter from the Star Wars EU that appeared in a few comics and video games) during one of the scenes on that same planet.
AHHH!!! YOU'RE WATCHING BSG! If you like the expanse you'll love this show. excited for you!
OH MY GOD SONNY! I just saw that you were watching BSG and my jaw dropped, I'm so stoked. I love your channel but haven't been into any of your series since Band of Brothers. I'm so stoked you're doing another show I love, I know you're going to love it and I"m so excited to take this journey with you
Love that you're watching this. One of my favorite sci-fi series.
I frakkin love this show! Excited to take this journey with you Sonny.
"This is not Star Wars..." Ahhh, 20th Century Fox didn't seem to think so back in the 70's!!! Lawsuit city!!!! 😂 Great reaction!!!!!
I remember the original series when I was a kid and the robotic bear-dog was stupid. But it was a show of its time.
I watched the first two seasons in full and then most of three so between you now reacting (and funnygirlreacts) I gets to enjoy this series again.
The 1978 series has intro theme music that still sends chills down my spine, decades later.
But the reboot is a vastly better show (in my book, anyway). You really get the feel of just how bad things have to be for the rag tag fleet to choose the destination they do.
Thanks, Sonny! 🌐 I love this reboot. I was also a huge fan of the original as a kid. The mini-series is more patiently-paced, the series itself moves quicker. It's among my all-time favorites. The made-for-video movies don't appeal to me... but the series proper is brilliant. #KatAndSonny #BattlestarGalactica #BattlestarGalactica2004
BSG is my biggest sci fi hole as a nerd probably , proud to be rectifying that with you. At least if you’re not a Cylon in disguise leading me down a dark path.
Hi Sonny, Angela over at funnylilgal recommended checking you out now that you've also started BSG, and I'm so happy she did. Mostly *BECAUSE YOU SPOTTED SERENITY* and it made my day!
Looking forward to you watching part II.
FRAK YESSSSSSSS! My favorite Television show of all time. Buckle up, you are in for one helluva ride! And don’t worry, all your questions will be answered in due time.
as someone who's watched every star wars show and movie, every star trek show and movie, the two seasons of buck rogers, all seasons of babylon 5, all seasons of the orville, all seasons of the expanse, and the short season of firefly (along with serenity), and every minute of battlestar galactica (both the original series and this reimagined series), you are adding what may be one of the best sci-fi programs to your viewing repertoire, sonny. 😄 enjoy!
Fantastic reaction ❤😊can’t wait to watch the next reaction! My #1 Sci-fi all-time multiple re-watch😊
One of the things I think is cool about this is that they use a LOT of real-world military surplus hardware on the Galactica set. It's all old-Cold War tech which was designed to keep working in a nuclear war, even after EMPs destroy more advanced equipment. For example, the mic that Adama uses to address the crew is sound-powered (literally uses sound to generate the electric signal) TA-1 Field Telephone from 1955. By using real world items that are obsolete but apocalypse-proof, the set has the look of something designed to fight a low-tech war long ago.
My favourite show of all time, looking forward to this journey with you!
