Nothing like a frosty morning in a tree stand in Penn's woods. Watching the woods come alive. The deer are an added bonus.Glad you found the old boy.

At 72 years old, most of the PA deer that I've killed I've shot with a 30-30 Marlin or Winchester. Only every had one or two go more that 70 yards or so. I've always read that you need a bigger rifle (30-06, 308, 270, etc) to nail them dead right there. So I guess even a 300 Win Mag. doesn't guarantee they won't run for a ways. Nice buck.

My first few deer growing up in PA were killed with a 30-30 winchester as well. My father then passed me down a 30-06 and i killed most of my rifle deer with that caliber. Very few ever just dropped in their tracks. No matter what rifle you have to place the shot correctly. Thanks for watching and good luck this coming season

Glad you found it . A few years ago I arrowed a very nice 9pt about a 125 inch buck , it ran 75 yards down into a gully, While I'm dressing it I hear leaves rustling & look up and see a probably 150 inch 10 pt FULLY in rut pawing the dirt 20 yards away looking for a fight! While I was grateful for the buck I bagged I wish I'd have seen the 2nd one 1st .. I hunt in nearby Armstrong Co. Congratulations

Thanks! I have heard many storys of bucks showing up after a hunter has killed another buck. Crazy things can happen out there, especially when the rut is in full swing. Glad to hear you have had some success in Armstrong and good luck this upcoming season!

You said it was thick cover your deer was in. Turns out there were two deer. Looks like you gut shot your deer and with the gun you were using you may have hit both deer. Thru yours and wounding the one on the far side that you did not see. I have done this so I know it is a possibility. Your filming was not that great but your narrative was excellent. Congrats and thank-you for posting. BTW, I live in Longbeach Mississippi and have hunted the family farm in Sullivan County for 40+ years now.
