Tiger was next. Rosebud came along in '90. Tiger was an extraordinary instrument, especially underneath those crazy fingers-but that Wolf...man, I love that guitar.
my first show!. although the first one that turned me into a lifetime head was the next seattle show june '80 in the seattle center arena.by that show i had memorized every piece of recorded dead and was was loaded for bear. until this moment i hadn't realized that my first terrapin was my first show. it's all starting to make sence now
Sure sounds like the Dead were enjoying the newness & fullness of Brent's keyboards just a few months after replacing Keith & Donna - especially in Playin. The organ sounds so lush and full at one point that the guitars just stop and they let Brent spread out his sound all over the arena. The "color" that the boys had stated they were hungry for had arrived. Thanks for posting this show!!!
Exactly -- Brent is like a shiny new toy they are all playing with. The organ on Playihng in the band, plus the transition from Stella to Truckin makes this one of my favorite shows from this era.
Amazing I wasnt born till 1987. First show 2004 “The Dead” tour. Seen hundreds since. Amazing music. Thank god they still continue making this beautiful music. Wish I was born earlier.
The dead scene on parking lot was outrageous 70's. Englishtown nj 400000 people get up start dancing in the streets or Philly spectrum 10000 easy lined up Whooping and hollering so loud u could hear 3 city blocks away at subway entrance ushers would hide .
Best rhythm guitarist ever. Try his style of playing - can’t be done, he created his own style, chord changes and combinations, and laid the track for Jerry’s playing and lead (tough to do by any measure). BW is completely under appreciated and under valued in our greater grateful community. It’s time to give him the props he deserves. Plus, he is a genuinely nice dude.
VooDoo, I dont know where you got all this tape, but brother, you are keeping Jerr alive the way he would have wanted. Hats off to you sir, I am loving watching Jerr back before I was even a twinkle. A shame I missed it, but at least I can watch your tapes.
I was at this show. 16 years old. Literally blew the top of my head open. Not sure what song or jam, but I had full crown chakra activation. Kinda surprised (and bummed) that I didn't get on the bus and follow them on tour. I did see them again in 1980, same place. And I got to see them in 77 at the Paramount, courtesy of my best friend's 17 year old girlfriend. So I got to see them with Keith and Donna, and then Brent. One of my few regrets, not getting on the bus in the 80's instead of going to college like a good little robot. Fuck.
I was at this show, about 20 feet back in front of Bob for - the first set anyway. The sound was fantastic, so clean. Whole show was great, the rapport between band members (especially for me, Stella Blue into Truckin') is such a joy to see and hear. Like electric chamber music. This is the GD as I want to remember them.
Stella INTO Truckin!!!!! best 'into' ever! actually the most powerful Stella Jam I think I've ever heard by a long shot, starting out real mellow and melodic and gets VERY heavy and more melodic. Pure power.
JL Waddey between here an 83 there were some insane Stella’s.. check merriweather post 83 spring I believe a Stella top 1-2 in mho. A shakedown that’s 30+ long.. psychedelic as fck🤯🔥💀🎸🇺🇸🎸💀🇺🇸
I just somehow stumbled onto this page and randomly dropped my cursor just before the playing jam - liquid! even crazier... i got sucked in and let it keep playin and was having fun reading comments while listening... and came across my own comment from 3 years ago - with no recollection whatsoever of having ever heard this show... amazing how it always sounds like the first time
Ya I know how you feel, first saw this 5-Years ago. Love 79', saw 8 Keith & Donna & 16 with Brent. Was just listening to Dave's Picks 24 with an amazing Truckin>The Other One> Stella, a very early Stella and I NEEDED to listen to another Stella and I remembered this show.
I saw them 1 month after this show in Pembroke Pines, Florida. To this day I carry a most pleasant feeling towards that night Sweet sweet sweet show Captain oh captain lead us to our ship..... Jerry's voice was Golden at that time, a voice I shall forever hear in my head. R I P dear one. Thanks for this beautiful posting Voodoonola2
this era of the Dead is the Dead I was introduced to . I was 10 in 1980 and started hearing the music around 84. So the tapes I heard were mainly this era. Electric LSD Boogie Woogie Space Music .
Agreed....if this was the last on stage performance or WOLF I have to check that out. being this film would be very important. Not that the others aren't. Every second of film and sound board from the DEAD are HISTORY!
Auest West Don’t forget Jerry broke out Wolf in 89 for a number of shows in the summer and fall. As a matter of fact John Mayer was playing Wolf at times this summer with Dead & Co.
Once again thank you for a real good time. To watch anything from the year the bus came by. Just love seeing the boys on video. is all we have left as far as visuals
+ClueSign the boys were young and strong. I noted how his voice started to go south after the early 80ies but the playing continues to get betta each year with who is left. Unbelieveable this music is it!!!!
Oh yea baby you know I was there. Seattle 79 my time, touring with the dead, that Jerry voice , come on the peak was 79 80 u know it. Guitar peaked later but hey look at Phil now with that kickin lead bass always growin always getting mo betta. OH to see the boys all together again dream weaver.
As soon as Brent climbed aboard the Bus Fire. Spread to the floor They are our angels Thank you so much for posting these iconic masterpiece shows. It’s the true way to receive the gift of the Grateful Dead’s musical miracles {🌈}:=} Jerry Saves
Fabulous…less than 3 years before my first show (04/06/82 Philly Spectrum) of 87 Grateful Dead shows I was blessed to attend through 05/95 Silver Bowl Henderson Nevada. Thank you for all your priceless nuggets of gold that you post.
Been really falling in love with 78/79 lately. 77 is often considered the "perfect" year but something about the energy in 78 and 79 sets those years above 77 for me. They messed up a lil more often but man when they get going they are so locked in and so over the top with energy that it is infectious.
I was there, didn't they do looks like rain in first set. just can't remember. Where are all the 79 shows. They did small venues we were one big familia so much fun. so much fun so close we were all so close and healthy too. Not many smokers then . We were all health nuts that is why at 57 I am still kicking. more 79 pleeze. I want to relive 79.
Great show, wish there was move videos from 79', don't know if there is, LOVE 79'. Don't think there was a LLR unless you went to Portland night before. I saw the Seattle show in 83' (also after a Portland show) and that rocked
I love that year too, Mary. I caught them in 79 in San Diego at the ol Golden Hall. It was amazing and yes, intimate. Brent had arrived! I so love Jerry doing Stella Blue here...sounds magical! 😎
Awesome! I was at this show... 16 years old. My 2nd dead show, because pretty sure this is Brent on keys, right? And I saw them with Keith and Donna... so I believe I was at 77 show, unless they played Seattle in 78 too. Anyway... THANK YOU! One of the shows blew the roof off my head... full crown chakra opening. I'd never felt anything like that before... and it changed me as a person. I've never been able to listen to a Dead show I was actually at before! Big smile! I'm listening to this now with headphones, and excited to check the Seattle 77 next. I wish I could remember it all better, but it's almost 40 years now... and smoked a shit ton of headies between then and now. Cheers! Thanks again for making this happen for me.
Great tune...exceptional sound on Bobby's guitar. The video is obviously old, and amateurish, but the times may have induced the mood of the videographer.
bob733333 recording video was banned too.. so this person would have had to sneak the camera in and film without getting caught, and I'm glad they did it because it's great to see the footage
Tiger was next. Rosebud came along in '90. Tiger was an extraordinary instrument, especially underneath those crazy fingers-but that Wolf...man, I love that guitar.
Alan Dingus j
Awesome. Last days of the Wolf. Best guitar. Best Guitarist.
Mike Kelly was that the telle? To tiger?
This is wonderful on a beautiful August evening in the Canadian hinterland
Voodoonola,we love you, and we hope that you love we too!
Proof is in da pudding

The most underrated year for the Dead. 79 as u can see was totally insane on so many levels one of my favorite years God bless the Grateful Dead
the grateful dead has a progressive innocence, a spirit learning to fly,
Fantastic That's how great they were , even on a grainy video it's not only watchable it's downright killer!
Sure sounds like the Dead were enjoying the newness & fullness of Brent's keyboards just a few months after replacing Keith & Donna - especially in Playin. Joe Felice playin was sick as F so long & psychedelic 🎸👑💀🇺🇸👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

No more of that Donna wail after the jam. Like taking castor oil after a filet mignon.
I loved going to shows at this time, Jerry was digging turning Brent on to The Grateful Dead.
TriniMendo-Humboldt They were clearly digging Brent.
Wow! what a hidden gem! Thank you!

Seen everyone from aerosmith to zepplin NO CONCERT LIKE A DEAD ONE
@@ronaldmorris4222 me too, and that is correct, There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert! 😎
I love when you can actually hear weir
He is a fantastic player, aint he?
Yes man! Most of the time weir’s guitar is hidden. Wtf!!! Someone should reboot all mixing!!! Ciao ciao.
do yah! do yah! we all do! when he was with dead since then its been a catastrophe!
in the Playin Jam Bobby earns his pay. He and Jerry were a symbiosis in sound.
Best rhythm guitarist ever. Soundboard mixed with audience turned out really well.
voo!!!!!!!! I watch this over n over...never get sick of it!!
This is a real special one. That may be the prettiest Terrapin I have ever heard. I am running out of ways to thank you, Voodoonola...
VooDoo, I dont know where you got all this tape, but brother, you are keeping Jerr alive the way he would have wanted. Hats off to you sir, I am loving watching Jerr back before I was even a twinkle. A shame I missed it, but at least I can watch your tapes.
Treasure what moves you. It can be a rare thing.
Thinking same thing about where , ha , too cool tho !
This comment is love. And so true. Thank you so very very much.

Damn, what a killer Terrapin. I was just gonna' watch a couple minutes of it , but it LITERALLY sucked me in. LOL !
Ben Rice I was planning on watching later but not possible. Did the whole thing.
@@bob733333 Same here.
Yep, same just happened to me ! This may be one of THE best Terrapins ever IMO
I LOVE YOU ....Man. Seriously thank you So much for uploading these videos You are A hero!
Thanks from Seattle!!
This is when the greatest shakedowns happened. The late '70's was a very, very, crisp time to be on the road with these guys.
I saw them 1 month after this show in Pembroke Pines, Florida. To this day I carry a most pleasant feeling towards that night Sweet sweet sweet show Captain oh captain lead us to our ship..... Very sweet rendition of Lady. So relaxed. So gentle.

He played wolf again in 89 at Hampton when they were there under the Warlocks name, it had been just outfitted with the midi technology
NYE, 12/31/89/ started with tiger, switched to wolf before or after big boss man w/ Bonnie Raitt.
Auest West Don’t forget Jerry broke out Wolf in 89 for a number of shows in the summer and fall. As a matter of fact John Mayer was playing Wolf at times this summer with Dead & Co.
What a year, this is a gem. I hope to see more 79' with Brent, probably a tall order. Terrapin is one of the best I've heard.
SICKNESS! Thank You!!! Love, Love, Love!
Once again thank you for a real good time. To watch anything from the year the bus came by. Just love seeing the boys on video. is all we have left as far as visuals
That Shakedown was just what I needed this morning.
Wow Garcia's voice sounds so good on this show.

Mary Lockman 1982 is when Jerry lost his voice for awhile. It came back later.
the playing is so good in 93-94 and say the final so many roads little fills and solo are perfect in every way!
Wow, the Stella Blue just brought tears to my eyes, wish there was more videos of this era. Thanks fro posting, outstanding job!!

Thanks, Voo. So beautiful.
Terrapin had certainly evolved into a powerful tune by then. It was only about two years old.
+Dennis Campbell even though i still think the first one they played was the best. imho
agreed - 2.26.77
Nice Stella>Truckin' transition!
fantastic
Holy shit you have the video. Thank you.
Our rock lullabies!
Wow! That is some fast and tasting Jerry pickin on "PITB" . Never heard him play so fast!
Glenn Donovan Jerry rips.
If you are wondering-----Don't Ease Me In, Samson and Delilah, and Sugaree precede the Terrapin>Playin' pre-drums portion of set 2.

I've had this cassette for years, never thought I'd be able to "visualize" it...thanks very much
Love it when they go into RxR!
Brent's first show was 4-22-79 at San Jose St. U. So, by this show, he'd bee with the Dead a couple of months.
AAAAHHHH the kinda shakedowns i was weened on.
I met Bobby & Philly in 1978 then again in 1980 for the whole band plus was lucky enough that 1 st time to b with Jerry !
In the zone. Qualities as a show in which they were ON!!!!!!!

Weir is such an incredible part of this band Jerry Garcia's playing withstanding
Great tune...exceptional sound on Bobby's guitar. The video is obviously old, and amateurish, but the times may have induced the mood of the videographer.
David Pototsky The video isn't bad. Have you ever recorded a video from the audience? Try it with a cheap camera.

The Half-Step> Franklin's first set opener is a real sweety! Chase it down.
Wow! Shakedown encore!
