When PING release a new golf club the world always listens... in this video I take a look a the brand new PING i230 irons... now ping golf clubs alway tend to do well, people always want the new ping irons, generally they are seen as the best in the market... so are these going to be the best irons of 2023? the best irons of 2022? the most forgiving irons of 2022? the best new golf clubs? are the ping i230 any better than the ping i210 irons? or even the ping i200? smash that subscribe button if you want to see PING I230 VS PING I210... that will be coming up very soon... but for now, let's take a look at the new Ping i230 irons...

I made the mistake of testing the i230 irons yesterday, and I've a feeling it's going to be an expensive mistake, because they're absolutely spectacular.
I did the exact same last week. How can it get any better with performance and look? Tough to beat

I tested all 3 i525, i230 and i59. I’m torn between the 3 😢
@@theeobeastone5068 if you haven’t already.. mix set of 525 4-7, 230 8-P.. I went 525 but 8-9 bit inconsistent with distance so gonna mix set with the i230
3 handicap and After 20 years, I repeat 20 years playing the same exact RAC LT irons, I had a demo day at my club on Saturday.. Never heard of these irons before and didn't do any research until I had purchased them on the spot after taking them out and hitting about 50 shots with the 7 iron.. Workable soft higher ball flight but able to flight it down.. I cannot wait to get them and work with them 5-PW..nice to know some pros use but honestly that doesn't matter.. These were butter.. Cheers
So I have the miz 223s as well. However that set is really a combo set which progresses to more challenging clubs in the short irons. Sure we all want to believe we have that skills to hit more elite irons but in reality most of us need help. The miz 223s get very 221 down from 7….so 8,9,and PW are very not forgiving at all. You’ll find yourself short or gapping more often than not IMHO. Kinda feel the i230s have more continuity through the the set. @james what do you think?

They look great. You’re getting consistent results. If you needed or wanted new irons, then I would see no reason why not.
Interestingly enough many years ago I was fitted for Ping S57 irons and I love them. But I’m happy with what I have.
S57s are butter
Tested the i230 and Mizuno 223’s today. Ended up going with the i230 just because the face seems bigger at address, so excited to play them!!
Currently gaming the i210s for the last 2 season. They are my summer irons. Just put my mp62s into my bag for the winter. The feel on the mizuno are so much better ,and I feel that once summer comes and when I go back to the pings my striking is far better as they are easier to hit. Considering giving the pings another season then seeing what mizuno bring out.
As an i210 player I would like to see a comparison with the i230. From looking at the specs on Ping’s website, the loft, lie, offset and bounce haven’t changed, so all they’ve really done is incorporate the heel and toe weights. Not sure if that’s enough of an improvement to make me spend $$$.🤔
My thoughts precisely. I still have the i200, not enough advancement with the 210 justify the $...these don't appear to do it either and, I'm worried about that metal badge in the back getting beat to hell and dented

If you are the type to buy the new iphone 14 pro because you feel like you are not getting enough out of your iphone 13 pro, you 100% want to upgrade those old i210s. In fact, you NEED to upgrade (it is important to tell yourself this). The other side of the spectrum is just called be rational and keeping your i210s.
Just a quick note, (good review btw) I think you made a slight error in the tech section... you said reduce CG, I think you meant lower CG ( in regard to where it sits within the clubhhead) 👍
So carrying a Takomo bag and hitting Ping irons. Hmmm...seems like a head to head competition video is needed.

They do look great but I'm not sure how they'd remove my 210's from my bag - sooo like them.
PINGs always make the short list for me but never quite make it into the bag. Last purchase was the Mizuno hot metals. Thanks James I am 1 more season away from new irons but PING will be on the short list again.
I play the 921 HM too but the i525's intrigue me (Ping fan), it's also a price thing too.
How often do you change your irons?
@@shadipaul I change every 3 years give or take. I play in Phoenix so with the sand and desert conditions the club face can start to look rather shabby. My wedges get swapped every couple of years. They get more practice time and used the most so they wear quicker.

Unfortunately skipped through video after constantly getting two sets HSBC and Shark adverts in the first minute and a half.
£180 per iron - it’s the type of club I’d use but the price point these days is to high
Playing s58... and it is a great iron. Maybe The ZZ65 shaft makes them feel so good. I like 210 looks better than 230. This reminds too much iblade and i500.
I gave my I200's to my cousin. Kinda stinks he beats me all the time with my old set. Dang!
Thinking about coming back to Ping irons. I used to play nothing but because I was stationed in Japan and the greens were tiny and hard as cement. The only thing I found to help hold a shot on the greens was the great spin I could generate with the various Ping irons I played. Since moving back to the states I needed distance more than spin so I switched to Callaway irons. My handicap has been all over the place. This year I'm going to play more and I've decided to concentrate more on distance control vice just hitting everything as far as possible. That means returning Ping irons to my bag. I loved my i3 blades back in the day so I'm hoping the new i230s will perform similarly. I may chase down a set of i210s depending on if I can find a good set at a good price.

What they all get wrong is their overpriced price tags, ping, Callaway, Taylormade, etc etc, all the crap that goes with it, how they are more forgiving then others and the amount of videos from pros informing all of us how this club or that make it best etc etc etc. Does make me laugh, I served in the army and had the same weapon was it forgiven could I get a different model no, you practice and perseverance, do you get better yes eventually some are better than others, don't blame the tool, blame the user. I have probably spent about £300 over the last couple of year's buying the right clubs for me, cobra S2 driver, two hybrids cobra 2 and 5, Ben sayers irons and 3 £50 wedges 52, 56 and 60. Putter which was the only one that I brought from new MacGregor mallet model 002.
Have I gotten better yes, can I hit it Ok, yes,do I hit it straight yes we'll most of the time as a casual golfer that's all I need to enjoy this game.
To many people with all the gear and no idea, makes me laugh when you see them take 8 shots on a par 4 and still not on the green lol 😂😂
If you are used to playing a Mizuno forged iron. Not many irons are going to compare on feel.

I’ve been waiting for these to drop, I work at a golf shop and tried to order 210s last fall and couldn’t get any here in Canada. I was hoping they didn’t change much from the 210. Already have my set and spec picked out just need them to become available.

I've had g30's for 4 years. Time to upgrade, I've waited patiently for these, "Straight in my baaaasket"!!.
Just got fitted into these today, incredible feel and sound. Looking forward to using them out on the course.
Looks, sound, feel? Couldntcre less. Just performance. Is it consistent and strait. If so I like it. If not, I don't care how it looks, sounds, or feels.

@@JamesRobinsonGolf didn't know only tour players could have an opinion about golf clubs. I am a 70 something duffer who plays every day at my local 9 hole course. Been playing over 5 decades now, and love the game. My point is that for me, and I only speak for myself, performance is primary, looks, sound, and feel are a distant second, if at all.
Would these in a power spec be comparable to players distance irons

Yep, gunna get fitted for these & FINALLY upgrade my Ping i15's! These are the perfect middle ground that I've been looking for with Ping.

They are indeed very forgiving. I'm a 15 HCP and just ordered mine yesterday. They are amazing irons and spoke to me immediately; the feel, the sound and the look completes the package. Can't wait to get them!
What’s the forgiveness on these? One got some old Nike VR forged combo irons but I want something more forgiving on off centre hits, coming up short too often lately
@@George-cz9go it’s really forgiving, I toed it a few times and still managed to carry 160yds with the 7i, I average 175 to 185 yds with my 7 irons. I went for a fitting yesterday and I was trying out the i525 and i230, i230 was the clear winner and ordered them.

Irons look GREAT. Please do a comparison of the 210's and the 230
They've got the mizuno mp60s look about them
These clubs launch super high. I am losing 10-15 yds per club with the standard lofts. I traded them in for the more aggressive strong lofts option. If you have trouble getting the ball in the air these clubs will help

I love Ping clubs. I game their putters, hybrids, fairway woods, and driver. However, their irons miss the mark. I game Srixon ZX5 II irons. My problem: I’m a decent mid handicap golfer. I need some help (tungsten, hot face, reasonable blade length) but I can’t stand large amounts of offset. The i230 is used by pros, and I’m no pro. The G430 has enough offset to choke a horse. I get nauseous looking down at a G430 iron. The 500 series iron is a hollow body i230. The 700 series iron is a hollow body G430. They need an iron in the middle - a players distance iron. Srixon ZX5 II, TM 790, Callaway Apex, Titleist T200, Wilson Staff Dynapower Forged - Ping has nothing that competes in this category.
gamed the i210s for 2 years, crossed over to Mizuno Pro 225's--love the +8-12 extra yards, but missing the Ping spin rates. I was actually trying to find the person who bought my i210s from me and buy them back, until this video. Very curious about i230s

Have a set of I210's and a set of Mizuno JPX921Pro's, prefer the JPX. Still miss my Ping Anser forged clubs. Wore them out.
May try the Mizuno Pro 223 next. May need to sell a few things though.

I have just noticed that the back of the 4 iron and 5 iron is different from the rest of the set?.. where the i230 logo is.

Im switching to these. All new irons are loft jacked where these are not and forgiving. Thats a sale for me.
So Coach Robinson are you that Ping’s i230 that they look good in the bag as well at address. Good distance & control but the buttery feel of the Mizuno Pros. Not a harsh feel, but a firm feel? Will Ping release a new line of wedges for 2023?
All I need to know is will Mid-handicap Mark be making the change from i210 to i230?
Interestingly enough I've been waiting on these clubs as a high handicapper ... I was fitted for Ping i210s not too long ago and loved them, but because of the shelf age I wasn't willing to pull the trigger on 4 year old irons. I play Taylormade M4 irons from 2017 still to this day, and they've served me well, I'm still a 20 handicap but when I was fitted for the i210s I had more solid contact, better trajectory, more distance, and more spin (I tend to hit lower trajectory shots) and the feel was so much softer than my M4s. I can't wait to get into a fitting session and see how these perform based on my previous eperience with the i210.

I did use i210s for 3 years, but I could not return to the i230s because I cannot stand any club with the screw in the tow….ugly !
The I290 was a horrible iron !
I wonder if Hovland will play the i230. He plays a full set of i210 irons and as much as the airlines keep losing his clubs the i230 might be easier to source locally when he needs to.
I got sick of chasing feel and randomly bought a used set of S55. Good enough for Bubba and the US Open champ. They feel just as good as any AP2 and yeah they look a tad industrial but with the right shaft the ball rockets off the face.

What puts me off is that gap at the back of the club heel side on the badge, looks poor and maybe dirt mud gets behind the badge?

I use Ping Rapture v2 irons. Had them for a few years now, love ‘em…they are my 3rd set of Pings…wouldn’t use anything else. Those new ones look good though

Is the insert at the back, the same cheap plastic as the Titleist T200, or something better??
I’ve had ping irons and they are nothing more than consistent and crazy good… however the mizunos will always have my heart not matter the differences… rocking the 223 and just can’t get over them.

Nice swinging. If I had two sets of irons, one with a computer number on them and another set with Mizuno Pro on them, I know which ones I'd put in the bag. And they wouldn't have a screw in the end.

Swapped from mizuno jpx921 forged to these and they are superb a slight toe or heel still goes all bar a couple of yards shorter
Highly recommend yep I’ve sacrificed slight feel but I’ve not noticed it after couple of rounds also spin higher than mizuno

Depends on what ball you are using for the spin rpm you are looking for.

Ive been waiting to see these for ages. Had i210 for 3 seasons. As much as i like shiney new irons i just cant see the point in swapping. I dont know if i want my 4 and 5 iron any more compact than my i210

I'm rocking a set of i59s. They're awesome and everything I'd like in a set of irons. If the i230s come close (and I'm sure they do) they'll be excellent.
They look very good. But so did the i210's. For me I would have to get over the fact that they are not forged. Also wonder what the price will be for them...

You'll get a better feeling club, but will give up close to a full club distance-wise.
@@michaelmontero8357 I finally tested them at the local Golfmart with Dynamic Gold S300 105 shafts and they seemed like about 5 yards shorter, but they were more forgiving and consistent. The i525s will sometimes go 10-15 yards further than I want out on the course which has got me in trouble over the last year. I'm sure it's helped me here and there but seems to have hurt me more often. I'll probably come back in a year or more and update this. HA!
