Hopefully he's spared. Dragon Age let us spare Loghain. I would hope we can spare Solas. Unless they write it in a way where no matter what he has to die, I hope he doesn't.
If he does have to die, maybe you get to drastically determine how he dies. Maybe he is the penultimate final boss if you try to kill him. Maybe if you try to save him, he will lose his life trying to help. Because I dont see him being the main bad guy throughout the whole story.

What if Solas partially succeeds in his plan of ripping open the veil to finally be ahead of things, before realising it all went even more to hell. His name still means Pride, and at the end of Trespasser he still thinks he has to carry the faith of the world by himself...
What if the way he redeems himself is by finally accepting help, work together with those he saw as unworthy of a future, and finally provides straight answers and insights into history that we need to fix things.
Even in that scenario, we might get the choice at the end to sacrifice him or some other companion to end it once and foe all. Just like who we leave in the Fade with Nightmare, a choice we don't want to make but has to be made on the spot.
However they will do it, I don't think Solas will just be a villain to slay. His backstory is about being forced into situations that go against his nature and refusing help due to his pride. I feel he will be an anti hero through and through, meaning well but not following the classic hero path. And that his redemption is all about accepting his shortcomings and seeking help.

I'm hoping that there will be an option to convince Solas to stand down and accept the state of the world. To help build up those in the present rather than tear everything down to rebuild what is lost. Perhaps alongside the Inquisitor as a friend or lover. Making it like a hidden or extremely difficult option to achieve.

One thing to consider is that he isn't the Solas we knew in Inquisition anymore. At the end of Inquisition he took (At least I presume that is what officially happened) the soul of Flemeth/Mythal (and the Old God soul if it exists in your playthrough). Becoming more than he was. Kirran and Flemeth were both able to communicate in some form with the souls they had. Meaning Solas is one person with effectively three souls. Two of which may still have their own desires or wants that may conflict with Solas.

    • @phonic0photon
      @phonic0photon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Flemeth was able to put pieces of herself into things and have them be resurrected and even be in more places at once. We discovered this when Hawke and Merrill did the ritual on Sundermount. So I think Flemeth/Mythal did put a piece of herself and the old soul into the Eluvian, as we saw, as she knew the intent of Solas.

I personally believe that Solas is going to die. Either hes gonna sacrifice himself when he finally understands/we finally make him realise that this world is worth saving and the elves can live in their kingdom once again without the whole "burning the known world down" OR we are going to kill him or defeat him as we try to save what is left of the world, depending on if you choose to redeem Solas or stop him.
I dont have my hopes uo for happy ending with Solas and Lavellan, the best I can think about is the Rebirth theory, and Solas and Lavellan can be able to slowly fall in love with each other again and live simple and happy life after everything that has happened.

as much as I hope solavellans get their closure in DA4, I sometimes feel frustrated when people act like Solas's redemption is specifically closure for a female Lavellan who romanced him. many inquisitors aren't female elves, and out of those who are not all romanced Solas, but that doesn't mean he isn't important to their story arcs! I hope BioWare remembers this and gives ALL inquisitors the closure they deserve.

I'm glad you questioned the fact how much it will matter to the New Protagonist...Logically it shouldn't unless they work directly for the Inquisitor and allows them to judge Solas. But that doesn't make much thematic sense for the New Protagonist to have no opinions of their own or not wanting to judge Solas for whatever harm they shall do to them as a villain against them. The New Protagonist would have no reason for any love for Solas or any respect or any form of compassion inherently. If Player agency truly matters than there most certainly should be new options for the New Protagonist to make, Options that include disagreeing with the Inquisitor and even potentially fighting them over the redeem or kill options.
They can make this really really interesting and dark if they want to (Protagonist Vs Protagonist turning them into Antagonists). Or subvert those two choices having them mean nothing at all with the New Protagonist having other options on how to deal with Solas and the Evanuris.

I think the new protag will have the choice to kill Solas or spare him, and the (ex-)Inquisitor will make a suggestion/demand based on what you picked at the end of Trespasser. Or maybe Solas dies by the (x)In's hand if you picked "I'm coming to stop you", and the (x)In stands between the new protag and Solas if you chose to try and convince him to stop. But it makes sense from a gameplay standpoint to give the players the choice through the new protag, with the (x)In giving you advice in line with that Trespasser choice.
I think Solas will drop the Veil in any case, but that the Veil will not come down in all parts of Thedas. I think it will just fall in certain parts of Thedas. This will open up Crossroads worlds in Thedas in certain regions, and it will also unleash the evanuris. Solas might be weakened by this event, and this is where we'll have the chance to kill or spare him. I think we'll have the option to end him right there, but if we spare him, he will become an ally in helping stop the evanuris.
As for the evanuris, I think Solas has a plan for them as well, but it will also fail. I think he's betting on each of them having entered Uthenera in order to pass the time. He thinks they'll awaken as weak as he was before DA:I. But I think Elgar'nan and Falon'Din have been awake all this time. Elgar'nan has been raging within his prison, torturing his subjects, and basically exercising his powers. Falon'Din I like to think has been sitting silently and plotting his revenge the whole time while his brother Dirthamen sleeps. Solas might have high-level mage generals waiting on Elgar'nan and Falon'Din's prisons to open, and they will try to attack them as soon as they do. But the evanuris will be ready for them, and easily destroy Solas' forces. The female evanuris might have some other kind of plan to deal with any group that is set against them. Like maybe all three of them are in the same prison and will combine their powers when they awaken. Or maybe Ghil created some creatures to guard them. As for June, I think he'll be the first evanuris we actually get to fight. I imagine the elvhen "god" of the craft has set up some sort of labyrinth full of deathtraps and such to prevent anyone from getting close to his resting place. I think the force Solas sends against him will be mostly destroyed by his various inventions.
It will be up to the new protag and (ex-)Inquisitor to conquer the temple of traps June has constructed, and then kill him. If Solas was spared, he will tell his remaining forces to assist the protags. If he's dead, they will attack the protags. So this mission will be easier or more difficult based on your choice of sparing or killing Solas. There might also be another option to imprison Solas, but that might take some doing on BioWare's part in giving us a way to actually hold him. Maybe one of those spirit gems from Origins?
Anyway, after killing June and destroying his spirit, the new protag will likely gain some kind of power increase that assists in taking down all the others. We'll then work our way up by killing the sisters first, then Dirthamen, which will provoke Falon'Din, and then Elgar'nan will be the final boss. Though I think most everything past June will take place in DA5. And DA5 should feature all four protagonists each doing their part to save the world, until finally meeting up and joining forces against Elgar'nan in the final battle within the throne room of the Black City.

I’m pretty sure the topic of Solas will be solved within Act 1, just like the Mage Templar war being solved in Inquisition inside of Act 1, the rest of the game will be about the tearing of the veil or the release of the Evanuris.

  • @Felsenkeks
    @Felsenkeks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I am 100% convinced that "All new, faded for her" foreshadowed and set up his fate and the different outcomes for him. Like I'd bet money on it! Cause what else was the purpose of that quest - OBVIOUSLY this is foreshadowing, just like Justice and Anders are foreshadowing for what's going on with Mythal.
Solas will die either way, but if you decided to redeem, you will get a scene where he turns back from Dread Wolf (his corrupted demon form) to the Solas we knew before he dies and you get a heart-wrenching goodbye that will leave us sobbing for a week and he sees he was wrong and maybe even helps us as some kind of last act. I think it will only be stated that there's a possibility of him reforming and maybe a cryptic epilogue slide about the Inquisitor having gone off and finding a mysterious spirit that doesn't remember them but the Inquisitor visiting it often all the same. In any case it certainly won't be an all-out happy ending.

  • @ICommentCuzILike

i think 'dying alone' will be one of the possible endings for solas, depending on your choices during the game. definitely don't think it'll be the ONLY ending, but as you say it's poetic justice and has been foreshadowed so it'd make sense as a possibility. I actually think that the game will begin with the veil being destroyed, and the 'destruction' solas refers to isn't 'literal things exploding as the fade returns' but confused and panicked people destroying themselves. I think every person in thedas will suddenly have access to magic, but no concept as to how to control it. Also chantry die-hards and the qunari will panic, thinking they're exposed to sin or whatever, and literally destroy themselves rather than try to live in this new reality. that's my tinfoil anyway XD

I get the feeling Solas' power is already too much for most to handle. Instead of being beaten, he will do what he's always done, make mistakes. • @lolsous

Why are we interpreting Solas' line about Thedas burning literally? Wouldn't the merging of the fade and waking world, and the resulting strengthening of magic, make the world descend into chaos (and burn) because of the shift in power? Like the mage/templar conflict, but much, much bigger. The elves would probably become much more powerful than any other race, most likely not being vert nice about it, perhaps titans will wake up, and so on. But I find it weird that Solas tells a romanced Inquisitor to focus on the Inquisition, if everyone not with him will instantly burn and die. Most likely he thinks a romances Inquisitor might have a chance of surviving and therefore refuses to involve them in his war, not wanting them to see him as a monster but also saving them from becoming a monster with him.

    • @AzureRoxe
      @AzureRoxe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Solas, more or less subtly, implies he WANTS you to oppose him, that's why he tells a Romanced Inquisitor to focus on the Inquisition [which he knows is already on the way to be corrupt] in order for us to keep the strength needed to face him. It's mentioned that he barely considered any living creature as "alive" till he met you and realized the world WAS worthy of being saved, of fighting for, but Solas also flatout mentions he can't stop, he's done too much to just stop, even if it kills him inside that it means facing the woman he loves.

Bioware has let us somewhat redeem bad guy before look at loghain or the illusive man so saving Solas is possible.
I'll say solas would only try to bring the new character over if they are an elf and trying to convince them that this is the way to save their people.
    Playing darkspawn Advocate here
But what we know is that the elven gods killed mythal and she was like a caring mother to the elves and Solas is always putting his people first so what if the others tried to expand the elf power to the others races and mythal stopped them getting killed in the process. Maybe I'm reading to much in the title "The Rise of the Dread Wolf" but it makes me think that this next game is just the beginning piece of the chapter. That DA4 is just going though the part of the story where he "rises" to power and that subsequent DA games will deal with the "vanquishing" or "saving" of him.
That puts me in the place where I think it would make a ton of sense for the "Subversion" theory. That Solas recruits the hero to eliminate the Evanuris which "appear" to be the main threat or the hero ends up aiding Solas without intending it, that would then lead to the "rise" which the title references.
I also think that it is possible that Solas has made a miscalculation about whether this world would be completely destroyed by tearing down the veil. As I am a Solavellan, I know it's hard to imagine but he's not always correct with his theories (Corypheus and the orb). I believe that there would be devastation but worse than the first 2 blights I'm not sure, maybe. I think over time the veil has thinned and in some places is nearly non-existent and that over time humans have been able to live there, maybe there's a higher death rate or more blood magic/abominations but still livable, also that post-veil life (ie humans, qunari etc.) have evolved or can evolve quickly to be able to withstand the kind of magic that would be unleashed with the destruction of the veil. I mean he's a god and he's certainly MY god 😍 but just because he says it doesn't mean he's infallible.
Also, I seriously think our main antagonist over the WHOLE series is Mythal hands down and that Solas was a high priest of Mythal and has been and is still under the compulsion of the "well" in temple that he was a priest at and that all of the actions he's been doing from the beginning has in fact been Mythal or her will, including becoming the Dread Wolf.
At the end of the day, maybe it's just my wishful thinking that we still have a series of Dragon Age games where Solas plays a part. I mean the character is GOLD and to kill him off in Act II would be a travesty. Someone said to me "but sometimes even a good character can be over done" and to that I say Darth Vader and Batman. Anyway these are just theories and maybe some wishes and I just had to share them. Sorry if I talk too much but hearing all your theories over all your DA content and I've never commented, finally got the nerve. 🤭 btw I love your content, don't ever stop tin-foiling! 😁

I posit another theory, that Solas will succeed and all the choices we made in trying to stop him won't mean anything until after the fact. Any possible backstabs and deceptive means we took will come back to bite us afterwards when people are trying to put their lives back together and feel we owe them something. It could be fun and interesting having our character essentially be an exile or fugitive on the run until they redeem themselves (similar to how the Warden had warrants out for their arrest, but I suppose this would be a bit more extreme). A confrontation with Solas after that could be met with his sympathy and knowing what it's like having the world out to get you because of a mistake you made.

"Morally complex misunderstood man" Idk, he was pretty straightforward with the "I will commit genocide of all of the entire world to reinstate an elven ethnostate because I realized my first genocide of my own people was bad". He is a broken but not traumatized man that thinks the only way to forgive himself for what he has done is to undo the thing that triggered it. Which is certainty a complex series of character traits, but morally he is the definition of Neutral Evil. He is literally doing whatever he wants without any regard for others to complete a self-appointed task that would be considered evil without question. I still want to redeem him though. Like, get him a good therapist maybe.

It's actually insane. Creating the veil was kinda justified. He saved the world. This now is really dumb. He would sacrifice so many, to bring back something that hasn't existed for millenia. And actually, what about the fade, the spirits? What would Cole think? He would probably say "Fuck you, eggboy, I like being a spirit". What solas is doing is just selfish. Or maybe sELFish?

  • @BelieveIt1051
    @BelieveIt1051 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The new protag, as well as any party companions, have to be people Solas doesn't know, but they will also need to be powerful enough to actually stop him. There should be an entirely separate video for the party companions, so I will just cover the new protag with this post. We've talked about various origins for the new protag, and this is where the "people Solas doesn't know" part comes in. As for the "powerful enough to actually stop him" part, I think the new protag should gain the ability to mentally enter the Fade worlds of various people, places, and things. This would be similar to entering Connor's Fade world to confront the demon who possessed him, or entering Fenyriel's Fade world to confront those demons tormenting him. Also, we'd be able to see the historical events of certain locations, like how the Hero saw memories of the past at Soldier's Peak. Or how the Hero was able to affect the Blackmarsh by activating alters in the Fade. A similar thing happened with the Inquisitor in Here Lies the Abyss when the Inquisitor recovered the memories of what happened at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. And also this happened at Therinfall Redoubt against the Envy Demon. The Herald was actually able to invade the demon's mind at certain points to learn information about what it was and how it was watching Lucius, how it met Corypheus, etc.
Imagine being able to see and experience certain codex entries rather than only read about them. This is the kind of thing the new protag should be able to do. It would be a good gimmick to match that of the Inquisitor's mark (though the mark is now gone). This could also be used on various persons of interest, locations, books, items, weapons, etc. So when the new protag uses the ability, the real world slows down to nearly a standstill, just like how Cole said was happening when Envy was attacking the Herald. So the new protag would not lose any time in the real world. Once the objective is complete, the protag's mind leaves the Fade and is back in the real world. There can also be an option to leave at will. Also, receiving too much damage while in the Fade world should also result in a forced exit. An Origins codex does state something along the lines of normal people waking up from a dream if they are attacked while in the Fade.
So how can this be done? How does the protag gain this ability if not a mage, or even a dwarf? I think it should come into play when the protag and party companions foil a certain plot of Solas'. Perhaps Solas is looking for another lyrium idol, except a blue one that has not been corrupted. Maybe the new protag gets to it first, and maybe that relic establishes a connection with the new protag that links him or her to a titan. This in turn grants the new protag these special powers of mentally entering the Fade at will. This also makes the most sense for a dwarven protag, since we already know a connection with a titan can bestow magical abilities to a dwarf, as we have seen with Shaper Valta. If Solas takes the ride down in The Descent, he remarks that the dwarves must have some basis to draw from when they design so many creative carvings and stone structures. He speculates they can't dream, so there must be another kind of connection. So a connection with a titan is likely what he was hinting at. This might be one of the things he's looking for in DA4. If the new protag beats him to it, not only will it establish the new protag as a worthy character alongside the Hero, Champion, and Inquisitor, it will also provide a major ability needed to stop Solas.

I'm throwing ALL my hopes and wishes into a chance for a happy ending to redeem Solas 💚 But I am super curious... could there be all this build up to Solas being the big bad of DA4, but then someone else we didn't expect becomes the biggest threat? What if it's Mythal... the more I listen to Flemeth/Mythal's speech after the Drinking of the Well of Sorrows... she mentioned "like the WORLD was betrayed..." sounds to me like she may upset with how the creation of the Veil destroyed the world they knew as well.... 🤔

I believe that BioWare has to be and will be creative about Solas' fate in the next game. If we look at their games (or at least the ones I played) the choices and the final outcomes of the games have chronologically evolved. More different endings, more options. In DA Origins you could save yourself or die a hero. In ME2 you could mess the whole thing up getting even the main protagonist killed. In ME3 there were 3 (4) different outcomes of the trilogy.
I believe in DA4 we will have 3 (or more) options in the end. Kill Solas. Redeem Solas and let him die. Or redeem Solas and save him as well.
(Or perhaps join his cause and destroy the world as a 4th one)

Focusing only in Dragon Age, without comparing it Mass Effect, as they are being worked by two different teams.
Dragon Age Origins is the only one that really has a truly different ending or fate for your character.

I'm so late to this party but I feel like if BioWare do give us a "happy ending" for Solavellan, it will be a bittersweet one. I personally love him so much but even then the things he has done, even in pursuit of an understandable cause, are irredeemable. I think I would be happy as long as Lavellan and Solas end up together, perhaps in death, or maybe like in a Stroud situation they stay behind in the Fade in order to save the others? I just can't see them getting to live out the rest of their days in a little cottage in the Hinterlands with no repercussions lol.

Never too late for some good discussion. I always found the romance very sweet and heartbreaking, but it's really for the best if solas doesn't engage in any more romance. To him, the modern day elves might as well be like children. The power imbalance in that relationship seems waaay to great (Now, looking back at it, dating your coworkers as literal leader of the organization maybe isn't the best idea either). Like, sure, for us solas is an extremely attractive guy, but what are we to him? I think he knew this, and that's why he feels so uncomfortable in pursuing the relationship to begin with, obviously in addition to being the dreadwolf and all that. It speaks to his conscience that he broke off the relationship, because imgaine if he didn't? Imagine being with him, and one day he suddenly disappears, only to later reveal "yea, I will probably kill all yall". It would have been incredibly callous.

  • @OfficiallyJewls

I'm still going to go with the theory that Solas isn't the real antagonist in the story, but Flemeth. She'd use him as a puppet to get what she wants to be done without anyone coming after her. Before the reveal, we'd probably do a lot of work against Solas, telling him he's a bad wolf, then BAM! It was Flemeth all along. If this doesn't happen, then I hope some poetic justice is done or we Solavellans get a happy ending, I'd be happy with either.
I'm honestly really hoping that we get to see some time magic again, this time to maybe get a glimpse at how Ancient Arlathan looked like. It would be SO cool!

Loghain needed only one single chance to seek for redemption. @@SeventhheavenDK i dont think Loghain was better because his actions affected in a "smaller scale" (for the most part), at the end of the day, the veil is an unnatural creation, so from Solas's point of view it makes sense for him to want to remove HIS CREATION that caused his people to fall apart, he didnt destroy the world, he destroyed elves. Meanwhile, Loghain let Ferelden army and king get slaughtered, prosecuted the only two wardens left, sold people to slavery and associated himself with Howe ignoring his tortures and slaughters while underestimating the blight (which per se is a lot worse than destroying the veil, btw), and all for what? His terror to Orlesians?
And btw, the veil in the current time is already falling apart thanks to all the wars and bloodshed through history and in modern times, so he'd be just hurrying up the process.

It makes sense with the usual double antagonist thing in DA and I think having him be the Act 2 final instead of the final fight lets us have some time with him afterwards whether its continuing/rebuilding the romance/friendship or settling in in a world where he's gone for good.
Also I'm in the camp that if Solas dies the Inquisitor HAS to be the one to strike the killing blow, it doesn't matter if we (most likely) spend a good chunk of the game chasing his down as the new PC, if its ONLY the new PC that kills him its gonna feel like letting Neville Longbottom kill Voldemort. She is one of his biggest weaknesses, so it would be a waste if they didn't exploit that fact in any way. Especially since it seems like after a certain amount of time passes, he doesn't "guard" her dreams anymore, & wouldn't that leave her wide open in some sense?

A Solas/Lavellan redemption closing like Rose and the Doctor would be truly touching, and most likely would be only achievable where there was a Lavellan Inquisitor.
Any redemption of Solas would have to lead into DA5 as the story is so rich with too many things that need to be explored and could not possibly be wrapped up in DA4. Like Sandal whom I think is linked to a Titan, and the Dwarf/Titan link needs to be played. The blights need resolving also. Was the betrayal of the Evanuris on Mythal, tricking her into slaying the Titan and was Solas with her when she did so? Did that act give the Titan the blight (as Lyrium is Titan blood)? [ On a side tin foil, any one using Lyrium for magic is partaking in blood magic as it is Titan blood, lol.]
I think sundering the wolf from Solas with the Red Lyrium Idol is the most likely scenario in Solas' redemption.

  • @davidferguson2618

I believe bioware will kill off the Inquisitor if she is romanced to Solas, as apart his redemption possibly. (When i think this will happen) Half way through or even close to the beginning we will see Lavellan die as it is most likely to be a tragic love story (Example Darth Vader and Padme) ending and would further add fuel the fire of Solas beliefs and self loathing. This would most likely cause Solas to doubt and hesitate allowing our new protagonist to take advantage and save the world.
    But only time will tell....

Everyone always talks about redeeming Solas and the impact that choice from Trespasser may have.
It’s also generally reported that the DA4 protagonist will be a new character
…what if we’ve got the Trespasser choice the wrong way around? What if trying to redeem Solas causes the Inquisitor to join him.
(In world states where the Inquisitor wants to crack the Egg, Solas’ second could be the person left behind in the fade)
It wouldn’t be the first time Bioware subverted a player choice with a negative consequence, and there’s something about DA4 that just feels like choices from past games are going to bear consequences and not all will be good.

I would wish to somehow redeem solas, as in fiction, the "deep down he is good, and has good motivations" thing actually exists. but realistically he is no better than corypheus, perhaps even worse. Eventhough he claims to be way better, becasue he doesn't enjoy it. Yea, big consolation to the victims of your plan. The idea of restoring a kingdoms former glory is always bullshit. There is no longer any "solas' people". the ancient elves are gone. And it's truly bizarre. Solas shows appreciation for the world, curiosity and open mindedness, he resents tyranny, and helps you defeat someone, who wants to "restore an empires glory days". The inquisitor literally calls him out on this hypocrisy "you don't even see us as people" and solas doesn't really have an answer to that. He has no real problems with literally deleting most of sentient life to replace it with what existed before, some thousands of years ago. Again, he says he has problems, but they don't seem to stop him, so not really worth to take him at his worth. But the most laugable thing iss his interaction with the iron bull. "Would thedas be better under the qun?", to which bull responds "Yes, but too many would have to die, so we shouldn't invade." And solas gets so mad at bull, calling him a coward for putting the life of people above his own ideology. Solas puts his ideology above the lives of actual people. And solas thinks he can have the moral high ground? Ridiculous.

I think the route of him suceeding partially will be the one in the game, as in he will manage to tear down the veil but in doing so he will realise that his plan was a much more devastating one than he thought, unleashing something beyond his control and the new protagonist will be helping him to eventually stop a complete destruction.

I hope Solas wins regardless. He either crush the opposition or gets persuaded to tear down the veil in a gradual manner allowing people to avoid the worst fallout. :)

I dont know why but I dont think Solas will be the main antagonist. Even with it being dubbed the dread wolf rises I feel something larger looms over all thedas.

When you said maybe Solas will give the new hero a hand I thought it better not be Lavellans hand

Never thought of the red idol as his kryptonite. I wonder if it will connect itself to us like it did with Bartrand etc but instead it learned from past mistakes

I think a big point that *will* probably change how he is in the next game is something we've already seen. Revenge for his spirit friend Wisdom. I think this event allowing or not allowing him to kill the mages was a major choice.

I actually want the choice to let Solas win available. The option to let him to destroy and rebuild. And we get to see what happens afterwards.

While that would be really cool, it would make creating any future games almost impossible as they would have to basically build two entirely different games for the people who let him bring it down or who stop him. Whether the Veil stays up or comes down I really don't think is going to fully be in our hands if they are wanting to make games after this one. If not then that could be an option.

@@StonedHunter I mean like deciding the ending. The last choice. We could get a Cutscene if we let Solas win and that's the end. And if we stop Solas The game continues on.

It will be nice to see Cole back as a "Spirit Of Compassion" to cleanse and purify the soul and spirit and mind of Solas in the next game too!!!!!!!
