I am not a believer in the “pause” approach not because it’s not important to slow down, but because I don’t believe it will be possible to enforce it. I worry that the actual work will continue in greater secrecy and that can be worse. This beast has to be tamed in public. I believe the organization with resources should put profit motivated competition aside and work openly together to advance the science and the technology. Given the resources needed to advance this domain, there are only a few orgs that can do it and they should be made work in the open together. And they should work on the potential good applications.
