LOVED my ‘15 Veloster. Coilovers, swaybars, lip. Quick n dirty. Drove it 289,000 miles in just over 5 years. Recall notice warned of “Catastrophic Engine Failure.” I was denied a service appt, and a week later my engine took a dump. Service and corporate laughed when I suggested replacement. “300k? Don’t you think you got your money’s worth?” I listed it as a rolling shell on Marketplace and sold it right there in the Hyundai lot. Guy signed the title on the service desk. I Walked across the street and bought a Honda.

Has 85,000 miles on it and went from nw Wisconsin to Florida and back with no problems and I wasn't exactly taking my time. Just use GOOD oil and change it at 3000 miles it's just fine. Also remember to warm your car up before thrashing!

First rule is to NEVER modify the engine. The gamma 1.6 is notorious for developing chronic knock at 100k. Luckily hyundai will replace your engine for free. I have heard of people putting on elantra throttlebodies, which would be the only modification worth doing.
In terms of suspension, bc coils or koni yellows with stock or eibach springs will serve you well. The 1st gen at least has a tendency to never rotate and always understeer, so a stiff AF rear rollbar does wonders for handling. Also getting 17in wheels can help with initial acceleration.
In terms of looks, imo a roof rack and mudflaps make it look great. The veloster is so easy to make look bad, so keep it simple stupid.

Have a 2017 veloster turbo currently at 112k. Haven’t done much with it in terms of performance, just an intake and exhaust with no tune yet. The only issue I had with it was a sudden fuel pump failure at around 95k, shitty paint, and someone backing into my front end ruining my headlights and hood. Outside of that it runs well. This car isn’t made to be overhauled with mods and compete with the big v8s. And I’m not gonna try to treat it as such. Other than a tune I don’t really have any plans in terms of “power” mods in the future. Honestly the only thing I wish it did have is a rwd set up instead of fwd.
Cosmetics wise, it’s just you as said. Simple stuff, so far it’s just been wheels, custom headlights, tinted black taillights and a blackout grille. I do wanna get rid of the gray trim pieces and new tires and coilovers but that can all wait when I come home. All easy things to work on and all pretty cheap to do. Easy to make it look good but easy to make it look bad lol

Left my 2013 turbo DCT at 80k for an N. love these cars, never had an mechancial issues on the turbo 45k - 80k. Was scared of engine grenading soon, it never gave me any issues, but i've heard that it's related to bogging the car in a low gear, sometimes up a hill.
I believe the autos are safer because they are more often driven by non enthusiasts, but the 1st gen turbos just dont produce 150k mile examples, yet atleast

I mainly focus on getting after market headlights and taillights but there’s only one headlight option and no taillight option, if there is I wanna know where.

@@rally1461 they are all the same motor despite people saying the connecting rods are different which no one has any proof of it and Hyundai will tell you it was not revised. I’ve owned the car since it was new 2013. I haven’t blown the motor yet at 88k but jeez every thing else has taken a crap but the motor so that’s what I’m waiting on. Changing your oil just keeps it from sludging up and these cars are know to give on clean oil. With all that said I do beat on my car pretty hard and have been pushing 240whp on a mustang so basically 270-280whp or what ever on a dynojet. It’s faster than the newer Elantra n without a doubt since I’ve ran a few

I've had my 2013 VT for almost 6 years now with a 162k miles and I've haven't had a major problem with it yet, only issue I had was when I first got the car I had to replace the ignition coils and ever since then I've just kept up with regular oil changes. It's slightly modified and I drive 60 miles a day going back and forth to work while doing some aggressive driving with it. Maybe I'm just lucky with it, but so far no problems.

Best way to modify one? Find a trash bin. In 40,000 miles it will fail, I got 300,000 plus on my 93, not convinced I will ever buy a Hyundai, unless it’s a crane.
