I have the exact same setup. I made a diffuser with a Pringle can and white polypropylene sheet, slice a cut through the middle of the can and fold it outwards. This gives you the bounce downwards and you get similar results to those expensive custom diffusers for 5 bucks. Great tip on e-shutter w flash, thx for saving my shutter count.
Thanks for watching, so happy to see that this helps others, it really is hidden is such a deep menu I just figured for the last few years it was impossible LOL.
I do get hotspots with this setup, I will give the pringles can a shot until I can justify one of those expensive AKs :)
I’ve been shooting macro with Olympus cameras for years and could never figure this out. This will save a lot of wear and tear on the shutter. Thank you for making this video!
Thanks! Its the craziest thing its off by default and buried in menu settings - I cant for the life of my figure out why!
Nice and beautiful video
Thank you for watching!
I think you should use higher Shutter speed , edges of ants are blurry. The flash will stop the movement end make sharper edge if there is no other light.
Thanks so much! I just looked at the ant @9:57 again - I wish I still had the original so I could check the exif (I accidentally deleted those) - I do think that is one of the things with only going to 1/50 instead of 1/250 when using mechanical, might be more chance in TTL mode of the flash not firing at all in bright light, whereas when at 1/250 and f14-f20, the flash will almost always fire even at a locked iso 200, or a slight bump to 400.
❤ wow that flash..small but powerful! glad to know about the shutter..thanks😊
Sure Thing! Thanks for watching, enjoy :)
Learned something new . Didn't know that. Glad to see you back
Thanks dude - hope you are doing well! Life has a crazy way of getting in the way of keeping the videos flowing (and crap weather lol) - hope to get some good ones out more often though :)
I have a Sony camera. I'm going to see if the silent shutter will work with my flash. I like all your photos
Thanks for watching and the compliment! Happy shooting :)
Can the OM-1 use the silent shutter with flash as well?
Yes - for the OM1 you will need to set up silent shutter settings, allow flash set to Allow in the menus.
You should really get a proper Cygnustech or AK Mini diffuser to use with that setup dude
It's on my list for sure, which do you use? My concern is I sometimes use the 60mm sometimes the 90mm, sometimes the v1 and sometimes the v350 haha, I think I might need 4 different ones? But maybe I'll pick for one combo to try it.
I might try to hack together a pringles can set up first, lol, but do hope for the AK someday
I was just looking into getting the Godox v350. Talk about good timing. My current budget flash has a horrible 5 second recycle time. How's the Godox do while photographing insects?
Oh wow, this recycles so much faster - especially with insects since you are generally using pretty low power output due to being pretty close. I need to do more testing, but I tried bracketing with the.2s delay set and had no missed frames (but I think Olympus cam also will wait until the Godox is ready to shoot the next frame)
Thats really what I like a lot about the Godox with Olympus at least, it does most of the features a proprietary OM system flash would do (work with bracketing, stacking, wait on flah to be ready for next shot, and TTL) where as I have heard others might now.
@motivatedoutdoors between this and the V1, I am still not sure which I would choose if only 1 - I think they both work good enough though, but I am still comparing if there is enough benefit to carrying the much heavier V1 vs the v350. I think the V1 would probably shoot more before needing to be recharged, and might recycle slightly faster - but I am not sure yet it its noticable or not. I will do a more comprehensive comparison soon. BUT - it is much nicer carrying the lighter v350 when out for a long time!
@@BMadPhoto Thank you. Sounds like I'll be going with the v350. Honestly the weight wouldn't bother me much since I don't do very long hikes while photographing insects. I'll simply be happy finally having something with a sufficient recycle time. 😂
@motivatedoutdoors awesome! If you want me to try anything specific let me know!
Got my Godox V350 today but can't even take off the mount cover! Was yours a struggle to take off? I might have to send mine back. Failed at the first step!
Ah dang, sorry to hear that - I do remember it being a bit tight on initial unboxing - I wonder could it be that the tension ring that holds it in a hot shoe is tight? I don't remember exactly, and I have never put it back on - hope you can get yours unstuck! Good luck, lmk if you get it worked out and what you think of the flash though if you do end up getting to use it!
@@BMadPhoto Thanks. I've even tried using a wrench to try to unscrew it but still not budging! I don't want to break it, so just going to send it back and order it from elsewhere. Appreciate the quick reply.
@@user-xk9yx2dl9t NP! I wish you better luck with the replacement!
