As to the fuel tanks, there are not different size connections and "cross drops" do sometimes happen. Although when they do, they try to pump and clean the tank.

I have a 2002 f250 super duty with a 7.3 turbo diesel. When it has been sitting for more than a couple of days, I have to key on engine off approximately 15 times and let it run through a full relay sequence, about 45 seconds, before I turn the engine over and let it start. If I don't go through all of the sequence that many times, it will fire a little bit with some white smoke, but will not run. I replaced the glow plugs and valve cover gaskets that have the wiring that goes through them last year. I believe I changed the glow plug and intake air heater relays as well as the heater in the bowl. Any ideas what may be causing this hard start issue? This happens even in summer weather. @@darrelllisec2826 does the glow plug relay click on and stay on with voltage reaching the glow plugs for a number of seconds or does it just click on and back off right away? That is the first place to start. It. Like be that the cotrol unit has failed. Look up a MotorCraft DX-876-1x that is what we are taking about. It will take a little diagnosis time to find the cause.
