Martin Buber's I and Thou is in the Isha Upanishad, The Gita, Buddhism, and in Jewish, Christian and even Islamic thought. The idea that we only know who we are within the complex of Self and Other. When we make the other an 'It' or we forgo our Self for the herd... We need to individuate and often re-collect ourselves. Marshall McLuhan said that we externalize our Self to understand our environment.. Have we entered a time that we can no longer re-collect ourselves, let alone come together as a collective?
I totaly agry. You even have to keep the enemy save. But only if possible. Some people can not be helped. We can only find out by trying. And what i understand in my short life, good can not exist if there is no evel. Ying yang something something😂😂😂 in my whole life i had 1 goal. Having a fam. Some friends and that i have. Dont need anything else Peace to anyone❤
7:20 One of the worlds leading linguists admitted in a recent book - he had memorized dozens of books to plot and characters etc so he could discuss them. Another professor that i respected admitted recently that he was a communist(as a kid), carried around the manifesto of Marx, and yet never read the book. It is a pamphlet!? A scholar recently claimed she likes 'fact checking' because she doesn't 'have time' to read the books in her field, seriously she said this. I mean... Do not look too closely at your idols as they will all disappoint. We are meant to try to emulate our icons, and when we fail to copy them we should land at/on our true Self...
Love your neighbors as yourself...BUT...if you don't have clear personal boundaries and you try your best to help someone facing multiple problems stemming from their own poor decisions, be careful! If you find your freely given, calm, respectful support and friendship having little effect in bringing about some sort of positive change and improvement for them, reassess whether you are actually helping... or enabling someone to remain just as they are with their poor choices. If you ignore that your support is being taken for granted, or becomes expected, and especially if you find yourself the target of snapping, temperamental outbursts, negativity, gossip, gaslighting and verbal disrespect after many, many months of freely, humbly and quietly trying to help someone in obvious recurring, desperate need ...it's time to quietly withdraw and reflect on the situation until the hurt feelings and human instinct to engage, defend, explain and personalize passes. Don't argue and fuel conflict. Reconsider any gaps in your boundaries, preserve your self respect, and seriously refocus your energy and time on things that maybe you should be doing for yourself, things that you may have been avoiding by trying to help someone else. Don't blame them or yourself, learn from the experience and do better going forward. Remember, if you find your efforts have been in vain, it's never too late to mind your own business. 😉 Peace.
