For years, we've assumed that button presses were necessary to complete video games. However, this is not necessarily the case. By undergoing brain surgery to integrate a Nintendo 64 console into my head, I can now play through Mario 64 entirely within my headspace. This removes the possibility to use TAS, however it adds a new way to explore the game, I'm calling the synapse challenge.
Boi, I think Pannen might even be able to reach the highest level in Sword Art Online if it was actually a world you could go to.
That's ridiculous, we won't have that technology; He will, however, be able to 100% the game with a single flick of the reset button.

This whole video is one perfect and synchronized thing, why does it surprise you?
These NJA challenges feel so suspenseful, because of this sense that I have no idea what he's gonna do next and there's no _possible_ way it could work out and then he pulls off something so delicate and precise with the geometry oh my god.

sometimes when I see these "no joystick allowed" videos I think to myself: "man, I wonder if it's possible to beat the WHOLE game without the joystick!" but then I remember you can't even go through doors without the joystick... at least you can 100% princess peach's castle courtyard

It's a little disappointing to see it come down to just Piranha Plant abuse, but at the same time, the navigation is still really impressive.

Addendum: Upon contact with the ground, SCP-64-1 emits an anomalous plume of smoke or dirt particles (hereby referred to as SCP-64-2) which appear to have reality bending properties. This has to be one of the more crazy versions of this challenge you've done. I found myself frequently going "How is he going to make a turn" And the solution is often very clever. Mad props to even being creative enough to figure out this way around.
I realize no-joysticking the entire game is impossible but I still think it would be fun to try and find a minimum number of joystick input frames. I think it would be funny to see Mario jump through a level for 2 hours just to turn for one frame and then spend another 2 hours getting the star.

I'm gonna go with something to do with the timing on having to manipulate the Fly Guy into the right spot, having to GP the goombas at the start might have taken too long, but i wouldn't know for sure

My speculation is that the blue coin's trajectory would miss mario because of the ground pound, so the one coin he got is still more optimal than spawning a more valuable coin you cant get to anyway

This is simultaneously one of the coolest no joystick runs (with the flame momentum shy guy jump off the cliff) and the lamest one (exploiting the respawning Piranha Plant repeatedly). High highs and low lows.

That would actually be pretty interesting to see. That would mean it's in the locked position for the entire run, so you'd have to use the C buttons to actually navigate the majority of it

Well, if Ceave Gaming is to be trusted, joystick inputs used to enter doors should be counted as meta joystick presses and not count towards the gameplay total.

Also opening doors (as it seems from the first video in the community no-joystick playlist) requires holding forward, so opening the castle, going upstairs, etc require the joystick for at least a couple frames
Edit: It turns out there are methods for opening doors without the joystick, (ie getting burned to open the first door in BBH) but they’re not useful for the vast majority of doors (so far)

How long do these take to make? I know little about TASing a game but from what I do know it seems rather time consuming so I am left with the assumption that it is extremely impressive that you've been uploading these daily. Either way these are really interesting and entertaining and I look forward to the next one.

Tip: since you have an unabridged version anyway, you could shorten these a bit more. There's still solid 10-20 second stretches of the same thing.
So “no joystick allowed” runs are impossible (doors, bowser 2 and 3), but maybe we could get a “minimum frames of joystick input” run? That would be super interesting.

Wow, so when I replayed this game over last summer I could hardly get a 100 coins on this level WITH the joystick, let alone without it. I know you've got a computer doing all the playing for you but what the hell this is sick anyway
I feel like I'm watching someone let their little brother play but you secretly have another controller you can use and keep slowly pushing them in the right direction and saving them before they die.

How do you, like, _know_ which challenges are possible? Do you spend hours slamming your head against different stars until something works, or do you have an idea ahead of time?
