Wonderful...j.d. Crowe is the most rock solid banjo player
RIP to Tony Rice, the greatest inspiration to so many, left this world so much great music that's influence and enjoyment will outlast every generation to come!
So true.
Man I’m just now seeing this one. My goodness thank you Sir!
Travis
I had the great privilege of being there that weekend. As soon as I heard they were having a reunion of the Bluegrass Album Band, I ordered my tickets; definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see them live, after all those years. Josh Williams did an outstanding job of filling in for Tony on vocals; at one point when they first started, he was almost overcome with emotion when he realized the enormity of what he'd been invited to do. To top it all off, it snowed that night!
Reminiscing about Tony Rice and some good old Bluegrass days. He was one of a kind. God bless him. RIP 💐🌠🎼 Thanks for sharing this special video.
The torch always has to be passed. Josh is the next torch bearer. 💪👍
Thank you for posting this historic performance video. RIP Tony Rice. Your musical artistry will live on forever.
I sure miss Tony's singing. His playing is impeccable, but he had a great Bluegrass voice too!
I agree, da324. Tony is one of the best lead singers in bluegrass history
AGREED -his vocals were the BEST!! sang Lightfoot songs BETTER than Lightfoot!
for me, he's on short list of best vocalists (ANY genre), EVER!! right there w/Sinatra...
And I'm sure it's killing him that he can't... Sad for him.
Agreed. The best ever in my book.
The players get older, but the music never ages. Wonderful stuff!
Great Comment.
Josh Williams with the living Masters. How cool. I could listen to him sing all day. Happy music!!! Thanks for posting it.
Josh is .......well the real McCoy!
Thank you, thank you, thank you Jan. And thanks for all (on David Anthony) during his hiatus.
what a treat thanks for sharing this! I miss Tony's playing, I believe this was one of the last if not the last show he did live.
Glad you liked it, Randy.
As far as I know Tony hasn’t performed since this time.
Thanks for all the positive comments, Y'all!
Watchin' Tony from this angle is just awesome ...starting at 2 minutes in.
Love Tony’s pickin man
Dressed for the occasion, Doyle and Tony always look great on stage....
Thanks for sharing this piece of history Jan!
glad you liked it...
This is very cool. Great post 😎. Thanks...
These guys are absolute masters of their instruments. Wonderful stuff!
the experience level in this room is through the roof haha
True Bluegrass superstars. I was in a little Bluegrass band when these guys were in their heyday. They were our primary source of inspiration at the time. We spent hours in my basement trying to learn these arrangements. Again they remind us how its done, get in a circle in a little room, work out the harmonies and leads, step up and play your part! Great video. Many thanks for posting this.
I just found out about Tony's voice. I haven't seen him in years. He will be back. I wish I knew how to get in touch. I remember getting together like this and playing. All the festivals the jams. I lived and loved it. In it from 63 thru 78. Still have
Have my Martin. It is fantastic. Toney has played it and Doc also
Without a doubt, the best group of musicians ever to perform together playing the best music in the world BLUEGRASS and BLUEGRASS RULES !!!!
Thanks for such a great video sir!! The players are legends and rightfully so...the strength and speed of Tony's hands continues to astound me. I only wish I could have spent some time with him!!! Thanks again!
I was there (-:
awesome.. Mr. Tony Rice an my all time favorite Doyle Lawson.. talent to burn
I do believe Gram would be pleased with this.
They deserve to be plying somewhere better than a kitchen, they are dressed for the stage....great music.
ROFL!!!!!!! I don't know how I ever missed this comment the first time around. This is great!!!!!!!
Ha ha. They were just warming up before going on stage.
Fantastic!
Bluegrass compact disc...NO 1. in the SPACE
that's a sound that can't be duplicated in my mind ....BAB what can I say :)
Same here Mr. Jones. Same here!
Rest in Peace, Tony!
Pretty darn good boys!
what a great video! .Thanks for sharing this!
Robbie Morris - glad you enjoyed it.
Yes dressing for occasion is always better than coming out in t shirt and shorts it shows some respect to the music just sayin'
JD Crowe best banjo player ever
JD is the man! But ol' Earl.... Earl is untouchable
My friends I think we can say that both are masters ... no reason to compare such great players. Earl and J D are true innovators and stylists in their own right...
Is that Tony singing Free Born Man? Sounds like him but I know he'd been having voice problems in later life and didn't sing much. Was he still able to sing for short sessions? Pity, he was one of the greatest Bluegrass vocalists.
Josh Williams did all the lead vocals...
You can just tell how much it was killing Tony to not be able to sing. RIP the Michael Jordan of pickin’
They will sound better with Jerry Douglas on Dobro and Bobby Hicks on fiddle.
Peter Mietus That IS Bobby Hicks
LOL God love you to pieces for not recognizing Bobby Hicks, but yeah, I was wondering why Jerry wasn't there as well. He probably wanted to be there, but had schedule conflicts. I'm sure he was there in spirit. My bucket list is to one day meet all of them. I've met Doyle Lawson & I've been to J.D Crowe's house & got to pick with him. I've been within handshake distance of Jerry Douglas, but I've never met Tony Rice, Bobby Hicks or Todd Phillips. Tony's Me & My Guitar album saved my life once when I was young & in a very depressed state of mind. I was bottling things up & listening to that album gave me an outlet for my emotions.
@@redlinemando glad you got a hold of that album, Boss...
You do know that is Bobby Hicks on fiddle right?
