Hello Cryptonites! Hope you enjoy this perfectly "fowl" story from 1934 by L.A. Lewis, wonderful author of "Lost Keep" and "The Meerschaum Pipe", found in his aptly titled "Tales of the Grotesque". CONTENT ADVICE: 🦃 Disturbing scenes 📢 A loud noise.
@EnCryptedHorror Come on! You can't just leave me hanging like that....or should I read between the lines? Nevermind, take care, Monsieur L'Estrange, great story.
@@waningmooncancer9628 Haha! I think they both served in the Royal Flying Corps in WW1 and (a bit sad really) both suffered with mental illness and addiction after the war.
@@EnCryptedHorror I'll probably get hate for this, but I thought it was more about the alphabet soup group. That mental anguish is no joke; it's a bane of my existence from child abuse. I feel terrible for anyone who suffers it. Be blessed, stay blessed, and I look forward to another treat from you ✨️.
Dear Mr Jasper excellent job as always. I keep getting a Bloody Bill feel from this one( one of my faves)…. dont know one why. Good job .. do carry on !
@@petere5826 Yes, I see that similarity too. There are a few other stories too I've done that follow the same format of characters meeting at key points in their lives. It's a style I like.
An interesting story, that was brought vividly to weird life by a narration that came with the measured pacing and tone of a Charles Gray, spookily delightful stuff.
New to this channel as of today. It came up in my feed & I checked it out simply, absolutely, Brilliant! You've just gotten a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent & exposing me to authors & stories I'd not known of before!
Goodness, the amount of raw emotion you've put into this story is utterly amazing. Bravo, bravo, bravo. I hope you continue to post new stories, because I'm quickly making my way through the entire channel!
Perfectly timed, per usual. The day has finally cooled with an evening shower and I am headed upstairs for a nap. So, I can sink deep into the cool sheets as the rain patters down over my head and drift off on the dulcet tones of your soothing voice and a dream that’s only vaguely unsettling in the most cozily detached, mysterious way… Sweet dreams everyone!
What a fantastic story and narration, my friend! These folks wrote stories so well. Their stories told soooo much in a shorter length. What an amazing command of the written word! Your sound effects, as always, are amazing. The cracking of nuts and other background noises add so much to an already excellent story! Thanks!
Thanks Jasper! Full of surprises aren't you. Oodles of atmosphere. I could feel the texture of feathers as you narrated. I was so taken by the descripitve writing, that I hoped that the poor lady had put down plenty of fresh newspaper on the floor. I wouldn't like to be the poor maid of all tasks put to cleaning that up! 🦃
Hooray! This was an unexpected surprise! I had stepped in to give your latest story another listen when I saw this one. Two excellent stories inches away from each other. Loved this one as well as your other narrations of his work. I was so giddy when I started listening that my attention was a little scrambled at the beginning……guess I’ll just have to listen to it again 😁 Thank you Jasper! ❤️🐙
I do love how, during the course of the tale, the cracking of nuts occurs. It also reminds me that I could do with owning a nutcracker and nut pick myself before I die.
I knew I hated a white leghorn rooster we had when I was 14 for a reason! He was one big, vicious bird who used to flog my poor horse's rump as she dozed in the shade and spured me through a riding boot badly enough to need two lauers of stitches. He managed to cut into the periosteum between the muscle fascia and my ankle bone in one swipe of his spur. The ER doc was surprised at how the injury occurred as he was unaware of how fast, strong and determined a "mere" chicken could be. That rooster would also fly at my face from the rafters of our barn. I'd never been able to catch him to clip his wings for two years. When I finally had him I took him to a neighbor who had bantams and wanted ours for a sparring partner. I was prepared to behead him but Ma said no. I was told he earned his keep. 😅
When I woke, half asleep, in the middle of the night, I misead the opening bit as "I used to hate Foghorn Leghorn". 🐓 Ah say, ah say, boy!! 🐓 But yours sounds like a right nasty piece of work.
I hope his morbid streak was finally satisfied with the revelation of the plucking before the undertakers arrived. If not, Billy may have needed to add that the undertakers were heading home via KFC! Thanks again for a very enjoyable story .
I suppose he was trying to get his beak wet, so to speak, by breast feeding, which would have been extremely painful for the mother. Otherwise...worms?

I'll have to do some research to find out if Xavier is any relation to Mr. Meldrum...😉😁
I noticed the similarity between the stories too. And there is actually a sort of connection between L.A. Lewis and John Metcalfe as I understand...

This reminded me of How Love Came to Professor Guildea - both thoroughly creeped me OUT, lol. Thanks, Jasper!

What an amazing story.A real chiller.Thank You Jasper.
All that tension then… “What the devil do you mean?!” Haha! This is fantastic, Lestrange.
Thanks Eric. I thought there was a nice line of humour in this story.
Love L.A Lewis ❤❤❤ The Meerschaum Pipe is one of my all-time faves. Perfection, as per usual. Thank you Mr. J.
You're welcome! 😊
Thank you again Jasper, the last one was so recent! I was ecstatic to see this drop. It's suitably dark and late enough for maximum thrills!
Had a productive day on Friday. Another one "in the can" hopefully edited and ready by the end of this week 👌
Thanks Jasper, I'm saving this one for my holiday next week, and taking my favourite older ones too.
I loved this tale Mr L’estrange with its sound effects . I am a great fan of yours living in Athens, Greece.
Yippee....L A Lewis 🙂
Just about to start listening to this, so another comment to follow ✌️

On the other hand, swap the carpet for sandpaper, give him a mirror and some millet, probably a fairly low maintenance husband.
@@EnCryptedHorrorI know a vegan, tradie husband who is pretty much happy with just that!
👷 Who's a pretty boy den?
Damn Jasper, this one
was genuinely disturbing.
A real treat!
Great story Jasper! Thank you! ❤
You're very welcome, Marianne 😊
What an idea Lewis had. That was a horror story for sure. Wonderful job, as always. Thank you, Jasper! 😱
I am totally addicted to your channel, Jasper. Thinking about either upgrading my level or joining on Patreon.... 🧟♀️💂🏻♂️

I love shelling nuts. And peas for that matter.

My thing is de-stringing runner beans and peeling hard boiled eggs.
I'm aware of how simple minded I sound here. 😂
Loved this one, I love your channel, I can't wait for the next episode of Ashbrige as well.
L.A. Lewis was a master! Thank you for bringing him to us, I only know his work because of you and every one has been eerie and performed exquisitely.
Wonderful, as always. Your narration is superb. ❤
That was fantastic...thank you 👏👏
oi loiked that one. remy nissant of roseberry's BABY
Yes. Immersive describes our Jasper. But he is SO much more than that
Thanks
Thank you 🙏

It's not a good idea to underestimate the nature of birds of this particular posture, they're really just small Velociraptors with more feathers. 🦖
I suppose he could have met with a terrible accident, but you would have been the primary suspect.

The canada geese at our park can get a bit lively too. When they gather in great numbers I'm always reminded of the gallimus chase in Jurassic Park 😁
Great story, very creepy!

Glad you enjoyed!

My Goodness! That last bit almost caused me to fly off my bed
Thank yoi 😊
I always am! Just happened recently.
Clucking hell !! 😦
But what was the 'sustanence' he withheld?
I suppose he was trying to get his beak wet, so to speak, by breast feeding, which would have been extremely painful for the mother. Otherwise...worms?
Anton Lesser? Forgive my spelling x😢
No, it's me. Jasper 😊
Reminiscent of Raven and the sun, but with a malevolent bird.
Always immersive, thank you.
