Thank you @William We are excited to see this technology become an everyday tool. Our goal is to create the decision between flying photogrammetry vs. LiDAR not about price, but just use the best tool for the job. Some jobs photogrammetry is perfect and some jobs LiDAR is perfect. We shouldn't have to worry about flying a 250,000 USD whole system in the air!

Thanks for awesome videos. I had video chat with rock robotics sales guy today. I’m actually interested in mapping from a full sized aircraft in canada. A pipistrel virus surveyor. I’ll be testing the livox avia in next few weeks on my aircraft at 500ft agl and slowest airspeeds I can fly to see if it will be feasible to use. Will also be trying out the rock robotics online editing for this test. My question for salesman was could I run 3 or 4x livox sensors side by side in the aircraft to obtain higher density and larger swath? Goal is to create system for fraction of the cost VS other full sized aircraft lidars which typically cost half a million dollars.
congratulations on your new endeavor. I have a question. I have never used LiDAR and what use would it be for an inspection of an electrical substation and/or Transmission lines? what benefits does LiDAR have over IR? Thanks
Would love to make use of this but as a start up having 30k spare for the lidar and then a 790 bucks per month cloud fee it still would not be classed as affordable considering i just had to fork our 30k for the m300, p4 rtk and various anciliaries

This seems more expensive than Kaarta Cloud and hardware for year. For $500 a month we get 5TB of storage and get 60 registered scans and LAS. It's hard to see what other features the rock cloud has from the site. Help clarify please?
Hey Joey, great question. The ROCK cloud post processes and generates the LAS, does all the LiDAR alignment and georectification. I believe the kaarta system is a SLAM based system, so this would still require some control points to align the pointcloud to the world. Also, the ROCK cloud offers contours and bare earth models, we are offering power line classification and some forestry analysis as well, but this is still in alpha and on a case by case basis

Looks clean and straightforward - nice! I'm sure a lot of hard work went into developing the point cloud software. I research saltmarshes and barrier islands through UNC-Chapel Hill and was wondering how this system performs in dense tall grass - specifically how many points can penetrate the vegetation canopy using this low-flying lidar method. Also, what ground sampling distance (GSD) is obtainable with your set up? Thanks and keep it up!

Yeah, and for the everyday user. I love being able to just upload my dataset and go back to the jobsite and focus on keeping the drone in the air. We did a job in Ecuador that required 24 hr turnaround time. So we flew LiDAR and photogrammetry missions in the day and then processed data all night and delivered results in the morning briefing meeting and started flying again. But the Photogrammetry was super easy because I just uploaded to DroneDeploy and focused on charging batteries and not lugging around my huge GPU laptop to process all the pointclouds!
Hello Indiana 😄 , bro can u help me, well my question is about the livox mid40 , using that lidar I can see the video in real time, it's for my UAV plane Good vibes from Mexico🇲🇽
So a LiDAR mapping system consists of 4 components: LiDAR sensor (LiVOX) and also an Inertial Navigation System (INS), GNSS receiver (GPS), computer, and a GNSS base station (Another GPS on the ground). There are many options on the market, but to get survey grade quality, you need to choose a good INS and a good multi-band GNSS system. This is why the cost gets so expensive. The ROCK R1A is pushing hard to lower this price, and the more volume we can do the more manufacturing cost we can save on our INS. So please help us share this video to help the ROCK robotic team lower these cost. We want to see survey grade LiDAR at the price of $10K but we are not there yet. :)
Wait a minute? Really? Very interested in this but I need to be able to fly and process off the grid and work with .las/.laz files for further analysis. Still, this is a huge game changer.
I have a heap of questions for you about your applications for Lidar and your software choices. It’s awesome to see you succeeding in the industry. Do you have any way for me to contact you more formally?
What is the difference between your system vs green valley?? I'm a newbie to lidar but I wanna join the lidar community with this entry level lidar system for survey.
Great Question! There are several tech specs that are different between the two units, but I would say the most important is the ROCK cloud. Something most people who purchase a LiDAR don't know until after they buy is the amount of post processing that is required. Typically you will spend 1 day in the office processing data for every 1 day in the field. And this is if you are really good. A typical post processing workflow uses 3 or more, VERY technical softwares. Imagine learning 3 photoshop softwares and having no idea why anything is the way it is :). Personally, I went to school for a PhD in Experimental Physics and consider myself pretty quick to understand things... It took me almost a year to really know how to do things correctly. Thats why we made the ROCK cloud. So you can just upload and click process. Now you don't need expensive softwares, expensive desktop computers, and all the man hours that is required to process your data. Just upload and get back to capturing more data. This is a great question though, and I encourage you to go over to our community page and ask more questions. We can get very detailed into this whole process over there ---> community.rockrobotic.com/
