@@TropicanaEntertainment just to put a smile on your face, I got accused of sandbagging so what I did is gave them your TH-cam channel and told him watch this and you’ll see why thanks again for keeping it simple
Jimmy love your golf! Been a 6 handicap for years and had to give up golf to a really bad back, after watching your short back swing video I'm playing again, but I lengthen my clubs and had them bent to 2 degree stand up lie. Your short back swing video helped me play again with the game I love thanks bud!
I also marked my clubs to my 7 iron. It feels good at home while swinging. I haven’t used them in the driving range or played a round with them yet. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND CAN RELATE TO YOUR MESSAGES. Thanks and keep them coming….
There is a difference between single length club sets and cutting a standard club set to the same length. A single length set has the exact same swing weight for each club because each head weighs the same (within a few grams), whereas a standard club set has different head weights. If you want all your clubs to be the same length, you're better off getting a single length set like the ones offered by Cobra. Just a thought
Yeah I've shortened my clubs too and I like them like that. While attempting to shorten my driver I pulled the grip off and realized I don't have the right grip for a Taylormade bubble shaft. So I went and grabbed my old Taylormade R7 driver and shortened it to 42". I'm hitting the shortened driver with a very controllable draw so I'm pretty happy. With my newly shortened clubs overall I've been winning money and taking 1st place net in the first try and 1st place gross my 3rd time out. I'm a 20 hdcp so I'm gonna have to take the ole "sandbagger" accusations from the guys but real happy with my newly shortened clubs. I haven't really dialed in my distances but I'm hitting these clubs straight as an arrow and I've noticed that there aren't any trees in the middle of the fairway.
As usual, great video. I just discovered your channel about amonth ago. I usually light up a cigar and watch for the entertainment, however I have shaved several strokes off of my scores by incorporating your course management style. The 7 iron is also my favorite club. Knocking the shafts down to a 7 iron length is really interesting to me. If this works out for you I might give it shot. Keep us posted. Thank you for the outstanding videos.
Hi Jimmy this is a great video. I have one question mate, when u cut down ur irons, did you add any lead tapes to adjust the swing weight? I heard reducing the shaft length affects the swing weights.
I knew a fella doing this 20 years ago. Me not knowing any better would laugh at his clubs. Now I am his age, just twenty years later. I understand now. I really do want to try this. For me, it was my 7 wood. I would adjust my swing speed to the situation. Thank you for the reminder.
Jimmy - I fit and built hundreds of golf clubs over the years and can tell you that each club head is made within specific weight tolerances. The 3 iron is less in weight than a four iron head and so on throughout the set, until the wedges (which in many cases are the same or very close in weight. Swingweight is dependent on weight of the shaft, grip, and overall length of the club. So if you shorten a 3 iron significantly, it will feel much lighter overall and will likely change shot distances. Most people who purchase or build same length irons incorporate iron club heads with same weight throughout (again, different usually for wedges). You may do well with having your club builder add some lead tape to help with proper weighting.
Love this. If you don’t try you won’t know. Did you get the weight balanced after the cut? I always wanted to try the one length club but don’t have it in me to cut my clubs.
Been playing with single length clubs for a couple years now. Great having the same swing/set up for all of them is great. I haven’t considered driver but I’m tempted.
Thanks mate. I am most comfortable with my 8 iron. So would u recommend cutting down my 7, 6, 5 and 3 hybrid to 8 iron length. I choke them down while gripping any way. Thanks
After watching you mark your clubs at 7 iron length I decided cut down my 5 and 6 irons. The results are losing a little distance for a easier club to hit and straighter shot. Thanks for the great content Jimmy.
Jimmy…kc again, i picked up a taylormade mini driver which is a head between a driver and a three wood and the shaft is the length of a three wood. I hit my three wood better of the tee than my driver so this has a bigger head than my three wood and is so fun to play
Hehehe, beat ya to it 'bout 3 years ago, except my woods and driver, though cut it down to 43.5 and went on a distance quest until "overed" 350 (358) then I quit it. 😁😃 Good choice man, accuracy rules! 👍
A lot of golf is mental. What worked well for me is telling myself that my clubs have Bluetooth. I just have to think about the shot beforehand, visualize in my head where I'm aiming and what kind of shot it is, then I make sure I swing easy and keep my eye on the writing on the ball so I don't look up and let the club do the rest. It works. My brother laughs at me and yells "Bluetooth technology" when I crush a drive or iron shot, but it works. The mind is very powerful, if you can dream it, you can achieve it.
You might be on to something here, it would be interesting to know what the best golfers listen to. Maybe my choice in music is why my golf game struggles.
Left to right and uphill, I've been thinking about getting all my long irons, hybrids, and 5-woods cut to my 5-iron length because that's my sweet iron.
I have been tempted to buy a senior Flex driver shaft and chop it down to 40 in just to see how I hit it. You can't take that much off of your normal Flex you play. Will make the club way too stiff
Alright Sir, so ---- in theory you only lost 3 yards on average from your normal length on the 6 / 5 / and 4 irons is that correct? If so that is definitely worth it for me to try as well due to that all of my clubs are 2 1/4" long at the moment and I struggle more often than not with the 5 and 4 so if I can swing them more like my 6 iron, that is well worth the calculated risk amd keeping more balls in play even though a tick shorter. By the way I was only wrong on the last putt --- I thought that it would break more than just from your left ledge -- I had it a cup out --- good guess though. Thank you for all the content you provide to us.
Hello, Jimmy. I think because you can hit the ball quite far, it's okay for you to shorten your clubs a bit, even if it means losing some distance. But for me, with my five irons only carrying 170 yards, shortening them might make it harder to play.😂
when making club changes, when you get it right it will happen right away. Don't waste time with believing you have to play several rounds to 'get the feel of them'. Also, just measure the swingweight of your 7 iron, usually somewhere between C9 and D3 and just have the other clubs matched to that one. Also have the 3-6 lie angle bent more upright to match the lie angle of the 7 iron. Otherwise they will all me woefully to light and too flat, leading to weak shots to the right.
You keep saying listen don’t watch your putts. I have been doing heads up putting for a few years now and it’s a game changer. You look at the hole/target and not the ball.
