The day in the life of a bonsai artist. Saying goodbye to dead trees and hello to new trees. Great work steve. Trees are looking great. Nice little gifts.
Very cool steve! Glad you like the pot! Sorry about the barberry berries looks like they turned 🤔 amazing they stay on the bush forever perfectly fine. Oh well. 🤷♂️ i usually crush my own lava rock and that's about as small as i could get it without it turning it into dust. Lovely penjing you made! I hope everything else grows for you! I'll make my own tiny penjing in the future if i get my cuttings to root. Or seeds sprout. Thanks steve again glad you enjoyed everything! 🫡👍👍
Bad move holding the pot in your hand while drilling, Steve. Safety first. I have a piece of 4x4 with screws in it for various size of pots. I put those rolls, from the doggy bags when bags done, on the screws to keep the pot from hitting the screw. Pot does not spin and when the bit comes out, it hits the wood and not your hand. Even though we are careful, one small slip and bit is into the palm of your hand. Please be careful. Just thinking of your safety, Steve.
I’m sure I damaged the roots trying to untangle them. If I try this again, I’ll look for healthier trees that are not so clumped up. The little Jades really are very cute. Thanks Patricia
Norfolk like a slightly acidic soil with some peat moss mixed into the mix. According to my research they like a sandy peat moss mix with a touch of bonemeal. I know that they are tricky at times. Like you said, might be sick from the store. If you get them again, try the sandy peat mix. Just a thought to help you out on the next forest you build with these.
They only bloom, the cactus, according to the light. I leave mine where the sun only shines for 6 hours and then complete darkness. They will bloom then for you. You can still do it. Just find a spot where the light shines and then total darkness. It will bloom for you this year.

Thanks Chris. I really wanted the forest to succeed. I’ll try it again at some point.

No worries Andrew. The seeds inside are probably fine. Hope I get some good germination happening. I’ll be sure to update you when something pops!
Awesomeness...love jade penjing..
Thanks Dave. They turned out very well in spite of my fat fingers
Sad about your loss! Thanks for showing the real life of bonsai.
It’s the circle of life Dave. Thanks for watching.
Foisting from Florida 😊
Snow birding?? 😅😅
@@dkstott29 thankfully 😎
@mattbrennan647 it's been bitter cold up here..below zero the past few mornings
Florida would have been great this week for us Minnesotans!!!!! Though you may have even gotten snow???
@@DavesBonsai 🥶 No snow Dave, but it was nippy.
What a great gift! Those jades look great in their new pots. Sorry to see your forest didn’t make it.
That are very cute when they emerge from the parent leaf. I hope I can keep them small. Thanks Dave.
Great bean planting in Andrew's pot. Looks great!!! Bean pot 2 looks cool. Yes, patience needed to work with the bean bonsai. Great job on the 2.
Patience and steady fingers. I don’t know how you do those thimble plantings!
@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai Very carefully.
Great rescue on the Norfolk.
That planting sure looks strange and the new growth is quite odd looking. BUT it’s alive, so there’s that!
Great updates!
Thanks. I needed to take my mind off of the dead trees.
Andrew is a cool guy. Great gifts!!!
He sure is. I hope I get some germination success. More trees is what we all need. Right? Thanks Tom
Those really tiny trees make me nervous. Great idea to put jades in them.
Me too. Made me feel like my fingers were too fat for my hands! It did turn out nice though. Thanks Dave
Poor tree. 😢😢😢😢All the others look great.
I felt so bad watching them crisp up like that. I’ll give it another try sometime. Thanks Moodus100
Brrrr. Definitely tea weather. I just had my cup of tea.
It has been so cold here too. Warm up next week I hope. You get it before we do. I’ll be looking for you to herald in the warmer weather. Thanks Tom

Thanks James. When I had fish tanks, I would justify a death by saying “let’s go to the aquarium and buy a fish!”
i was thinking of doing the same thing to my norfolk pines, do you have an idea of what went wrong?
It's a shame Forrest showed such nice promos. That Pair of Jades is very nice, and I love the Penjing. Nice Show, Steve! Hi, Luka!
