Ok this is really weird, a few people have said they can't see the camera and screen link in the description so I'm posting it in the comments let me know if you can see it here?

That field of view is great for a parking lot warrior, but for a serious street car/race car they're the opposite of what you need- detail of a specific area, mostly for "changing lanes." (in quotes because there are no lanes per se in racing) Also, for that kind of use you set the mirrors differently then most people do on the street- on the street most people set their mirrors so they can see the side of the car which helps with parking/curbs (especially in older cars without backup cameras), but for performance use you set them so the field of view picks up where your windshield mounted rear view drops off (you typically don't see any of the side of the car in the side mirrors) which you set for the best view out the back of the car since typically you get a better view there than the side mirrors.
I'm guessing that you might be using something like a wide angle backup mirror, maybe 170* FOV, for performance use I'd probably pick like a 68* HD camera and for normal street use maybe something in the 85-115* range, then I would love the display mounted where the windshield mounted mirror would be showing a center, L and R camera screens, maybe even 3 separate assemblies like the old wink race car mirrors were set up. What would be the icing on the cake (and likely the hardest part to implement) would be to use software to knit together the 3 images like a 360 cam does. Huh...
The mirrors are so freaking cool man 👍🏼
thanks man!
I am so glad you made these, I wanted to make these for awhile, i thought the concept was so cool.
Youre pretty good at snow boarding
I better be, I've been riding for 19 years lol
@DingDongDrift Yeah when you put it that way you best be good lol. I want to do the cameras as well but I need to look up my state regulations on them before I get happy
@@Jhugh17 just don't look them up lol, it's a national rule
@@DingDongDrift ahh I see I'm probably still going to add some anyway
I really want to do a IMSA inspired rear camera and maybe do a bit of programming to determine if the car is slower or faster with color coded box like the real thing.
Honestly 4-500 is a good price. I’m designing my own mirrors now (like stubby mirrors with 3.75” convex mirrors) and was using a E30 DTM style mirror, and that alone was about 400 usd for a set. And those don’t have any adjustability and are tiny
@@Noahh_jp considering real ganadors are thousands lol, yea the price is decent
@@DingDongDrifti own 3 sets of real ganadors.they cost me $300@ set.🤷♂️
i wish there were 3d models of those cameras so I can make exact 3d models that fit them
It's basically a box lol
I think those bubbles may be moisture bubbles from water getting in the mirror? Just a random thought but the only thing I could see being possible.
I love my rally mirrors in my go kart yaris. Like i would buy them again if i feel a cars rear visibility is poor. But i do usually see more of my hat and headrest vs the other drivers
but this is leagues better. That visibility is just insane! 😂Can see infront of the car nearly!?!? Wow just wow. I 👏🏽gotta 👏🏽get 👏🏽these 👏🏽cameras. a couple reverse cameras set up the monitors in the car and there you go.
@@mshadowsa2847 it's so incredibly easy with these new cameras
Love your video! Have you considered latency? I’d love to do something like this but I’d need the latency to be as close to real life as possible.
@@zackulibarri1275 there's no latency
Conformal coat the cameras wires on the back that will make them waterproof then you can get rid of the plastic covers you have
@@Gazb_fpv and have an ugly stud and nut showing?
@DingDongDrift I was referring to the clear plastic that was covering the camera, making the image weird, soz for the confusion
@@Gazb_fpv oh you're talking about the old cameras, they're still really low res, just wanted something newer.
HELL YEAH 👍🏻
This is super sick
Thank you
Pretty tight!
Dingadors or Dongadors
@@SakuraGarageUSA dingdongadors. That's what I'm naming them on my website lol
Thoughts on carbon or epoxy skinned pla or pla+? Would heat be a issue still?
@@martymccord9875 i always say, just delete PLA from your mind
i dont have an sc but i for sure wanna do this on my car.
Can you post a link to that camera you're using for this mirror system?
@@AutoRevLife it's in the description
For the cameras and the mirrors in general, why you didnt retrofit some tesla cameras? And adapt it to your car, i was doing that to my 911 bc i had a tesla before and thats a feature that i really love
I love the desing you make but I'm just saying it would have been easier and it's waterproof too and the quality its amazing, and they can be found super cheap in ebay
@@italosolar5276 cz i don't associate with swasticars
Hey, were can we find the camera links??
@@erlantzurbina5174 it's in the description
@@DingDongDrift i can only see two to your page and link afiliates plus the einstar vega one :(
@@erlantzurbina5174 it's literally right below the Vega affiliate link
@@DingDongDrift it might be because im not from the US, but i dont have nothing fr, thanx for the answers anyway.
@@erlantzurbina5174 it's an aliexpress link, which is international lol
The link for the cameras didn’t work for me, but I guess any back up camera from aliexpress could work
Works for me just fine
Just so you know… I’ve found a developer spray for scanning that works great and it disappears on its own after a few hours… you don’t have to clean it
i already know about it, i just don't wanna spend $30 a can.
@ I get two packs for $39 on Amazon
So I’ve got to know how much forethought was put into your channel content and the name, given that your car is highly 3D printed, and the name is Ding Dong Drift…DDD…3D. I apologize if this is a known thing or has been explained. If on purpose…clever. If by accident…clever. lol.
@@Jovi__ completely by accident, go watch the first 3 videos we were just goobers building a $500 hoopty
@ what a happy little accident. Couldn’t have worked out better. Lol
@@Jovi__ seriously lol
Bro this is on my list of things to do to my Mazda lol
@@Autreiyas now's the time!
Nice work Pappa Ding Dong. XD
I really like this and the design but the screen itself with the exposed cable kills it a bit.
On the mirror did you use PETG or something like PA6/12-CF. From my understanding, PETG will melt in the summer but I may be wrong there.
@@realmodsnation you're definitely wrong there
So all those rumors about PETG melting under the sun are false. This is good to know. I printed half of the car (retrofuturistic fastback) and had a few ways to go about it, but your experience dealing with it is inspiring for sure it will be way easier
@@realmodsnation listen to less people, do more stuff
@@DingDongDrift totally. By the way:
To try using VR (like Quest or whatever) in combination with Gravity Sketch for initial prototyping. It is a very primitive first step at sketch/sclupt-level 3D, but the advantage is that your designs will always be better because you create them not on a flat surface but in the environment. Similar to sculpting. Then you can move them to Maya or another program and model over the sketch. VR is broadly being used in the car industry as a supplement to clay.
Then, use a 4K TV of no less than 50-55 inches for modeling (if you don't do it already). They are a fraction of a penny today. What will happen is that the display will be close to the actual size of the part, which gives an immediate advantage in 3D prototyping and modeling.
I 3d printed some speaker mounts for my car back in the summer, and i even used PLA. they haven't melted or sagged at all, so PETG will be completely fine
Do you have you Passports????
@@quackquackalligatorpig892 did you get your shots!
I don't get what you were saying about camera's not being allowed in the US. The garbage ass cyber-turd is on the roads here and I'd trust your engineering skills way before I ever trust anything from the muskrat
@@4ngeldus739 cybercuck has regular mirrors, but yes digital mirrors are not allowed in the US
@@DingDongDrift ah yeah, forgot they had those since every time I see one I'm just always on edge and trying to avoid being anywhere near them. Those things also have too many cameras so it feels less safe in a whole different way if you know what I mean. It would be fine it it was just to provide virtual mirrors but they have basically an entire surveillance system. Now I gotta avoid being WATCHED by a shiny tank on top of the normal fear of being near a death trap like that
Not for sc owners with partners that will slam doors
@@mikehoncho666 you can still slam doors, the mounts can handle it
