That scene alone gave me chills in the trailer and I was Overwhelmed in the theater when The Queen said what she said. Maybe Nakia's "softness" was meant to counterbalance all that upfront strength the other female characters in the movie show. If you kinda sideline "classic" male characters by letting female characters fill their spots (no critique, just a trail of thought why Nakia was written that way), you also omit more classical female roles. Broadens the spectrum a bit. Like you can still be cool and badass *and* on the softer side.

    The reason Namor killed the queen is because when Shuri and Riri were rescued. He felt that the queen defied his order. He told her that if a single ship came near his home or if anyone tried to rescue the girls he would attack wakanda and that's what he did. I do think she defied him in a lot of their interactions and he made a statement by taking her down.

    Namor and Talokan was so well realised and I love how Marvel has managed to make the character names have a meaning behind it like with Namor and The Scarlet Witch, both of which are my favourite characters. I didn't know much about Namor but after watching this movie, it has made a Namor fan. As for Shuri, I agree with Marvel decision for her to give up her throne. She is not someone that wants to rule a kingdom. As for M'Baku, we'll just have to see what comes next and how they handle it. Okoye, has one my favorite scenes during her firing, performance was so amazing. As for Lupita Nyong'o, I'm sad that she doesn't have a bigger role in the film. Looking at her in this movie, I really thought that she would've made a great Storm if she wasn't Nakia already, since she exudes such regalness and is so beautiful.

    @Zay-e5p 2 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    I didnt mind that Shuri didn’t take the throne and mantle. She’s said that she’s the Brains behind the scenes and the throne isn’t something she’s been drawn too…and in a way she was honoring Embaku for taking care of all the Wakandians during their time of need. She’ll continue working on tech which is her love/passion that she acquired from her big brother and be the protector of Wakanda. Also I caught that they called her Panther instead of Princess at the end. This movie was beautiful and it feels like old school moving Marvel that we’ve been missing. She most definitely OVERDELIVERED!
    I mean ABOVE & BEYOND pulled off every single aspect of her character’s arc! And that’s an extremely hard & demanding/challenging arc to take on!
    If this wasn’t a superhero movie...but instead just a family drama about grief, Shuri’s/Letitia’s emotional story arc goes to places that most actors would KILL to get the chance to sink their teeth in & prove how meaty and how great the role is!
    She did all THAT and the fact that she succeeded, the way she did, with all odds against her, not only due to bad press/on set conflicts/injuries & Ofcourse losing Chadwick in Real Life...is honestly a Glorious Triumph that speaks volumes on her talent & skills!!!

This year is the year where I felt old Hollywood style of film with Everything Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun 2, and The Woman King are back.
    I thought M’Baku was amazing. With little screen time he ate. Such a tempered man but can show such great humbleness when the time calls for it. Shuri’s journey is cathartic and she really proved she can be a leader and a hero.

    Shuri's character arc in this film is like her brothers in Civil War but the circumstances on her part feels kinda worst. i'll need to rewatch it again to take better notes on the comparison of each character arcs.

      Yeah I'm sure I don't have the exact quotes right but when T'Challa let Zemo live, he said "Vengeance has consumed you. I will not let it consume me." And Shuri said to Namor something to the effect of "Vengeance has consumed us. I will not let it consume our people."

      Yeah, it would have been great to show a flashback to T'challa's scene at the end of civil war with Zemo as Shuri was considering killing Namor

    Just got out of this movie so my thoughts are super fresh. Loved the performances and the way Coogler & company handled every big decision here. The big story points were perfect, with the parallels between Shuri and Namor, Shuri and T'Challa, and Shuri and Killmonger. Expert stuff. My nitpicks with the movie were underwhelming third act big fight sequence on the boat (but I loved Shuri vs Killmonger final fight), the weird cuts and general poor editing, and the occasional line here and there. Overall, so phenomenal! I'm all for Coogler directing Secret Wars!

    The naval ship scene with the Talokan peoples was incredible! With the mesmerizing song and hynosis, kinda reminded me of the ship scene from Winter Soldier

    Absolutely enthralled by the film. I didn’t rave on the first one as others had but people will be lucky if I shut up about this one. As a man, I completely feel the representation and spotlight of the women in this film justified Grace. It was so refreshing, beautiful and powerful in ways I can’t seem to imagine, and it makes me feel proud of Couglar and the writers for finding such a full circle way of telling this story. Also, I’m a bit of a long form story lover myself, so all the emphasis from BP 1 and it’s influence of each characters decision in this chapter offered so much parallel, meaning and history. I truly feel Marvel is back on track and what am honor to Chadwick❤ Wakanda Forever
    Ps, I think any of your grievances or just necessary evils to story telling BUT the Midnight Angels helmet can be readjusted to say the least haha

    I’ve just gotten back from the screening - incredible! One thing i realised Grace, after your comment about the de-humidifier and Namor, is the quick quip from Okoye at the end of the scene where she and Shuri collect Riri. She made a joke about Riri bringing her “heater” as her weapon. Turns out, a “heater” is exactly the weapon needed to weaken Namor 🤷🏻‍♂️ again, more tiny, brilliant and intelligent details by Mr Coogler 👏🏻

    20:07 Okoye is like a free agent, now as Midnight Angel. She was promoted higher than general of the Dora Milaje to be a right-hand of the Black Panther. Okoye even got to pull in another member of the Dora Milaje to help her… the one who was unhappy because she wanted to fight with knives instead of the required spear. (It was Ayo’s GF.) She preferred close combat instead of ranged combat a spear requires, that’s all.

    I watched it this afternoon in an almost empty Theater (just how I like it) and it's a beautiful and touching movie. I'm so in love with Namor, and I love that he's not big and buff like thor and all these other steroids ads models. If course he's fit but like in a way that is achievable without the juice. Loved it. And love all his jewelry one of the best costumes designs in all of marvel.

    I loved it. I watched it with my mother. Aa a man mostly growing up with women, I had no issues with the portrayal of men and all the strong women in this film. Namor is easily one of the best mcu villains. I cried so many times...jeez haha. The opening together with the complete altered silent mcu roll left me speechless and in tears, same as the end. Best mcu phase 4 film for me (sry shang-chi) and putting the black panther franchise at my top of mcu franchises (previously gotg).

    I didn't see the emasculation with M'baku. He acted as a mentor to Shuri as he had promised her brother. He served the queen amd Shuri very well. Is he only represented well if he's the one in charge? I think an honorable man also shows loyalty, compassion, and wisdom to those around him. He gracefully accepted his role and performed well. He was trustworthy and I'm sure Shuri had no issues allowing him to bid for king. She didn't want it for herself.

      I'd heard the notion that M'baku wasn't given enough to do, then he kept showing up to fight N-amor and be part of the council. I felt he had a story arc of being the leader of a separate tribe, fighting to be the king of Wakanda, then accepting his role as being an aide to the king in the first movie and _Infinity War._ In this he's a warrior-advisor who thinks he could have fought and protected Wakanda better than the Dora Milaje, before getting beat by N-amor. Then finally showing he cares about the people enough to relocate them and advises Shuri not to wage an unending war, making him worthy of the throne.
      If anyone it was Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) who didn't have enough to do.
      There are so many movies that are nearly all male characters, that we could use the reverse for a change as long as they don't deprecate men.

    I'm so glad I had a pretty well-behaved audience for this movie. During the quiet scenes everyone was quiet. No one even tried to eat their food or drink. No phones went off. I'm glad I had that experience. This movie was so incredible to me. There were definitely a few people sobbing too during a few moments. It will be very interesting to see what the future of Wakanda will be in the MCU since they are setting up the world coming after Wakanda.

    I’m Black and non-binary, not a man, but I didn’t feel like M’Baku was emasculated at all. It felt more like the story and the stakes were more personal for Shuri, Okoye and Nakia etc. so we focused on them more. And M’Baku once again not wanting to get involved in the fight (although for more justifiable reasons) feels in character for him

  • @vingram100
    @vingram100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Isn't Shuri the queen basically because she literally forced M'Baku to do what she said? T'challa couldn't even do that so Shuri didn't ask, she demanded. Shuri has never really cared about traditions. I like that the son gets to have his own life but still knows his heritage. Its the perfect way to keep an heir safe.
