The reason for the NBA markings on the floor is that in the 1983-84 season the Jazz played a few games in Las Vegas and IIRC Kareem became the all time leading scorer in NBA history in a game in Las Vegas
Game played late at night(11:30 PM ET) on December 30,1983. This is when CBS might do an occasional late night college basketball game in the regular season.
Wow never knew CBS would do that for College Hoops during the regular season. A Friday night College Hoops game not on Cable in the 80s. Don't threaten me with a good time.
@@BAYAREA-kd1ig It was a Friday night AND it was during the holidays as well and with no network late night programming why not do this. NBC also did this a couple of times. In the 1975-76 season they did a game between Indiana and UCLA from St. Louis on Thanksgiving Saturday night that aired LIVE at 11:30 PM ET. Needless to say Bob Knight was not happy with the tip off time
@@BAYAREA-kd1ig yes Av That was the Patrick Ewing Mike Jordan era of College HOOPS and the network WANTED MORE INTERSECTIONAL games in the non conference like UCLA was the team for NBC AND TVS IN THE 70S CBS teams were Georgetown North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky, S.t John 's etc and many played late night games in the western time zone another night Kentucky played UCLA at Pauley Pavilion and that year the Regionals of the WEST were at Pauley and Georgetown BLEW OUT Nevada - Las Vegas in the rematch 63-48 no contest this time Jerry no home court calls !!!!!!
This game was played in December 1983 not 84 I remember clearly it was a night game, they played again in the tournent in March Georgetown won 62-48 enroute to a national championship My homey Spoon was playing and in Bmore we aont get to see him alot on TV plus four Bmore stars were in this game RIP my big brother Spoon…
Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why UNLV was 9-0. I figured this must be December '84, in the season after they had won the title. But then Packer says they could make it "to Seattle."
Well I rolling REBELS LOSE IN OT I REMEMBER THIS GAME I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL THIS WAS THE FINALS OF THE LAS VEGAS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT DURING CHRISTMAS/NEW YEARS BREAK THE FINAL WAS ON FRI NIGHT AT 11:45 IN LATE PRIME TIME THE FIRST ROUND WAS WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON TNT NEVADA- LAS VEGAS BEAT WAKE FOREST AND GEORGETOWN BEAT TEXAS- EL PASO I WAS ONE THE BEST GAMES THAT SEASON WHICH WAS A FINAL FOUR SEASON FOR THE HOYAS OF COURSE THE GAME ON CBS THIS WAS GEORGETOWN S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON ALSO FINISHED 36-3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@kingrey465 Actually it was SMU Georgetown beat 37-36 in the West Region as the #1 Seed. Ironically, Georgetown would beat UNLV again later in the Sweet 16, 62-48.

The NCAA theme music in the early 80's was to me like 'The Price is Right ' theme music. When you heard it, you ran to the t.v. set!

@@MusicManSeanB the thread was referring to the 1st round of the Las Vegas Classic that harpo replied to.
@@MusicManSeanB i was at both games.....the sweet 16 game was at pauley pavillion
They didn't have a shot clot in 84? What was the 5 sec call about?
5 seconds when closely guarded even on the dribble back then. Now it's only holding the ball.
George Town shocked the UNLV
David Wingate played out of his mind that night. I remember watching that game with my grandfather in his room.
Anybody else click this to try to figure out which college T & M is?
It means Thomas and Mack. This was unlv first game in their new arena
I thought it was Texas A&M 😂😅
Ewing sucked at free throws
A problem for Georgetown in the 80s and early 90s.
Georgetown had better talent
To me, Ewing was& still is the best college player I ever seen.
@hgm38 I agree!! I wish Benard King and Patrick would have played together more often, along with Mark Jackson
