When Bob Latchford scored his first goal, the commentator said 'not everyones cup of tea, the striker Bob Latchford .. but he scored vs Denmark etc'. Why were people critical of Bob Latchford, then? He had scored 30 goals for Everton in 1978 and he was capable.
England were no great shakes either. Hadn't qualified for any tournament since 1968. They were holders of WC from winning at home in 1966, so they didn't have to qualify for 70. Failed in 72, 74, 76, 78 to qualify for any tournament.
Why did Greenwood give up on the Coppell/Barnes combo?...In the qualification for the 82 world cup he regressed to a 4/4/2 style which caused no end of confusion..In the qualification for Euro 80 England walloped their opponents...Keegan's absence for a lot of the 1980/81 season also undermined his plans but he forsake the promise of the early adventure of this late 1970s period..
Strange people the Northern Irish they paint their houses red white and blue. They march up and down waving the union Jack, they build bonfires and burn an effigy of A man in green on top. When they play England they take off the Red White and Blue put on the Green then cheer for a team in Green and Against England. They then take off the Green and put the Red White and Blue back on. Then back on the march against the green. bizarre
George believed there should have been one team in Ireland like the rugby, but there were too many fat cats in suits in the IFA and FAI would would lose their jobs and their perks. He said it on tv.

You get that sort of attitude about lots of players.
70' , 80' ,90' la época dorada del fútbol
78-79 was the best season there has ever been
Shown live on ITV if I remember correctly, so something of a novelty at the time.
Yes indeed. Me and my brother allowed to stay up late. Happy days
Big pat normally plucked out every cross, great keeper
But for a lousy team.

I'm Pat Jennings' biggest fan but he had an off day this time out... He's better than that.
Saw it that day on TV live

Barnes lost form for club and country. City transferred him in the summer of 79
@@dlamiss ok..!
Coppell got a career ending injury in 81
@@jj9749 Career ending in 81 🤔??? He played in the 82 WC.
Jennings doing an Alan Rough impression for the first goal
The England team that started to mould in the late 1970s under Greenwood had so much potential to do better..
@ kailash patel excuse me, but you indians seem to have been brainwashed by your colonial masters
@@marcelleratafia2360 Oh #uck Off!!! racist twat!!!

....northern Ireland's golden age....2 world cups followed this...
Tighter than tight shirts - it's the 70s (and how they've made a return in this day and age)
A shame we don"t have the Action Reply"s from Thames Television.
The Irish got their knickers in a twist. Somebody forgot to tell them the idea of the game is to put the ball in net.
Well david healy know s how to do it
@@thecityslicker2947 😂He's crap
You could have least showed up to the final whistle.
Whoever was playing golf on that pitch should replace their divots
When ur keeper is out jumped by K Keegan u know uve got a problem!
Charton and the comedytator, kept saying.
IRELAND, it was and still is, NORTHERN IRELAND.
YEAH.
This is England. Not the shyte we have nowadays
I would say England have a better team today than they had in the late 1970's
@@ArchStanton45 You are welcome to share your own opinion Gary, but I do not share it, wish I could.
England has come out to be so much improved now I feel than a few years ago
@@ArchStanton45 English teams won every EC from 1977 till 84 bar one in 83.
