      I keep feeling when I watch your videos that people might get the wrong idea, that you're saying prebiotics are trash and useless. My interpretation of what you're saying is that while increasing prebiotics is not an effective intervention for dysbiosis, that doesn't mean that a diet that forms a good foundation for eubiosis will not be characterised by high-prebiotic factors. I hope that makes sense. This really helps explain for me that patchy response I've had from my persistent use of fibre and prebiotics, but at the same time I'm glad I don't have to give them up. (at least not permanently) I'll keep thinking about how I can incorporate probiotics for my IBS-D and likely dysbiosis, as I've started recently with the Saccharamyces fungi and I don't want to overdo it or miss something else important to my journey. Thank you for being here.

    My doctor doesn’t believe in supplements at all. He gave me the triple antibiotics for one week (I was still very ill when I was finished with them), he told me nothing about probiotics. I had to figure all this out on TH-cam. I’m doing much better thanks to doctors like you!

    No confusion, everything is clear: when you have problem in large intestine, then prebiotics works, but when you have problem in large intestine AND in small intestine then prebiotics don't work because they help bacteria in large intestine but lead to even bigger overgrowth in small intestine. It's easy. That why very important to use Migrating Motor Complex (MMC) to the fullest. To move part of bacteria from small to large intestine. That's why today I am eating two times a day - to make more time for intestine to work, to move bacteria from small intestine. So looking forward on your new video - about Migrating Motor Complex!

Your video had just cleared up my confusion. Also, I had been using a probiotics supplement because I had been diagnosed with IBS some time ago but never really knew what it was doing for me. I didn't know if it helped. So now I know what to observe and look for. Thanks again Dr. Ruscio! 😊

    Do you have any thoughts about the question of the over-activity of 5-HT in IBS-D? I'm enaging with the scant number of studies on this topic, and am getting the impression that supplements such as L-Tryptophan would be considerably contraindicated for IBS-D. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    That was super interesting. Thanks for sharing. What about people who claim total resolution from going hardcore carnivore with elimination of all fibre. I know some people who push back on this cute one study stating an increase in a very inflammatory gut microbial bacteria known as Bilophila wadsworthia in participants fed a meat only diet for 5 days vs those fed a all vegetable diet for 5 days. Some people claim that this is bad given that Bilophila wadsworthia, is known to contribute to colitis, and a variety of inflammatory bowel disease, in mice. The key operative word there is mice. No human studies have been done to support this finding in humans, and the interestingly anecdotal infirmation from people switching to a all carnivore diet to resolve such conditions would suggest that after many years of following such diets, they have experience no flareups. That suggests an interesting paradox given they have likely dramatically increased the genesis of Bilophila wadsworthia. Also, I have read much information suggesting that fermented vegetables, kefir and kombucha may be a better way to get needed probiotics vs supplements as supplements do not survive stomach acid. And for the record, I am not a carnivore or plant exclusive vegan, I just try to look at both sides of the debate objectively and call out BS from either side.

    In this case, why do COPD patients who use antibiotics increasingly frequently die from drowning in their cytokines? I have observed in many people that antibiotics worked at first and then caused a huge disaster, I also that probiotics stopped my persistent cough. I think the intestines are not working the way you describe. Antibiotics are certainly not innocent.

    • @Jackie-us6sl
      @Jackie-us6sl ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @daphneorlando2441 I have been in remission for a while now but 2 weeks ago i started again having a flare. I eat clean clean, no processed foods, sugary foods etc. During normal daily life i would have probiotics, yogurt loaded with probiotics, Sauerkraut 2 spoons in the morning, grass fed bone broth like if it was my coffee or organic jasmine tea no te bag (i don't drink coffee) i buy/eat prebiotics foods, good fats and good carbs sweet potatoes, quinoa all in moderation small portions, chix (protein) wild caught salmon (omega) wild caught tuna etc etc
      But because right now I am having a ulcerative colitis flare i stop all of it and having chix, fish etc but with white rice, white smashed potatoes (no milk no butter) squash soup which i put 2 potatoes cooking it with bone broth, ginger root, leaks (prebiotics) then put all of it in the blender. My point with this is.. that YES eating carbohydrates during a ulcerative colitis flare does help your gut, your colon. It stops your colon for over working and letting it rest = less going to the bathroom. Now..i never ever eat this type of food refined carbohydrates but because of my flare right now i had to change asap my foods.
      My gastro also gave some samples of probiotic pills. She said they are doing studies with this probiotic and they sell it in the pharmacy but need to go and ask the pharmacy clerk behind the counter. So far I haven't be able to find it at Walgreens, went to 3 pharmacies but need to go still to CVS and others and ask.
      And one more little detail that i have not tried because I couldn't find it: The white Champagne RAW KEFIR (not from the stores) so i found a farm here in Florida Delray Beach that have the cows that eat grass, hens etc and they make the Kefir, however the public can't go inside the farm no allowed because in USA it is not legal to sell Raw Kefir in the stores because it needs to be pasteurized which that's not what we want us with this problem. So you ordered online and then wait a week, then pick it up in their store/establishment on the weekend Saturday because they need to make it, kefir needs to go thru the process. My point with this is if you suffer from this terrible decease do a research and try to find a farm or place where they sell the white champagne Raw Kefir. Waiting for this Saturday to pick up my order and let's see! Good luck everyone and hope you all find the way to feel better!

      @@Jackie-us6sl I hear they now are selling raw milk for animals! Whole Foods may be getting it soon. It is not hard at all to make your own kefir or yogurt using any milk you want. . You just mix about a quarter cup into a liter of milk in a Glass (sterilized) jar. Leave it out overnight or for two days if you like it more sour (more probiotics). I leave it in my cold oven that has a pilot light and is thus slightly warmer than room temperature. I like to mix berries & powdered stevia in it. I like the now brand. Hope this helps!

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. And good question. However, I don't think you need to be too worried about strain specificity. I often recommend people take a multi-strain probiotic or probiotics from different categories, that way you'll be most likely to get benefits. The thing to watch out for here, is that brands will often fund studies about their probiotic strain, see benefit, and then frame it as though their probiotic is uniquely beneficial, when most probiotics work the same way. So sometimes strain specificity is more a result of marketing than science. Hope that all helps!
