The front Violinist with the gold around her waist is affectious! Fully alive and soaring free.

Nicely done. But I don't know why string orchestras refuse to add another stand of violas when performing Mendelssohn's string symphonies. They are all scored for two sections of violas, just as they are scored for two sections of violins. Typically, four violas playing the same part works well supporting first and second violin sections of 5 or 6 each. But this configuration leaves only two violas on each part for the Mendelssohn string symphonies, and they cannot compete with or properly support violin sections of the typical size: 3 players on each viola part are needed. Mendelssohn, a violist himself, understood how to employ the instrument to great effect, and when the viola parts go unheard, these symphonies really lose some of his most subtle and cleverest orchestrations.
