Beer was one of the very first non-water libations for humanity, was often used to pay workers, and--in many cases--substituted for water because the local H2O wasn't safe to drink; wine had none of these (with the possible exception of random payment for work). Wine also has been a substitute for clean water for millennia. To that end, what did Jesus drink as a symbol of his physical blood? Not beer.
