    words cannot even describe how much respect I have for this man. I agree with everything he said. a person like Gerard is so unusual. I miss listening to him speak his mind in interviews, and seeing him and the guys on tour. he has such a unique energy in person. I went to one of their first real-ish shows when they were touring on the Bullets album back in the early 2000s as an underage girl that should not have been there, and I talked to a much younger Gerard at the merch table, because I bought so many copies of their album. there weren't that many for sale, but I got what I could. everyone back then wanted a real copy of the album, but because they were still indie, the album had no distribution so it was impossible to find. most people had a burned cd copy of Bullets, so everybody I knew gave me money to buy them a real copy of Bullets at the actual show, which was one of the only places you could get a real copy to support the band. he was really nice, and he didn't snitch on me for being underage at an adult venue because I promised him I wasn't drinking (I think I was 14/15), and also because I had ridden with a bunch of adults to get there. we drove over 10 hours. very unsafe behavior for a 14/15 year old girl, but my parents didn't care about me, and I've always had guys looking my way since I was a literal child so I had no problem hitching a ride to New Jersey with a bunch of guys I knew who were between 4 and 8 years older than me. I had a really hard life back then, to be honest. I think he had a hard life too. he was really nice to me when I met him back then. he honestly hasn't changed that much, as far as I can tell, except maybe to become a better person, who is a little less angry with the world. the way he speaks is very much the same.

    A true poet and artist and fellow tortured soul, whose voice spoke to so many of us in so many ways. The gen x had kurt . Us xenniels had kurt but Gerard as well . As we grew older and experienced life almost in a tribe sense . It's beautiful and inspiring and it makes one not feel as alone as we many used to feel so many times crying alone in our bedrooms. Before social media really was a thing . Before you had ways to reach out to others . When mental health and learning disabilities were highly stigmatized. We are the soft ones who have grown into the strongest. Beating the odds and overcoming fears. Fears that were instilled into us and beat into us for so long . It's beautiful he took a break. He needed to heal . He may be a lil older a lil more comfortable looking but he's glowing and looks great. His voice is still good .
    I'm so happy and lucky to be alive with such a talented artist making history before my eyes

    I feel like Danger Days was an amazing ending to their discography. While the first 3 albums had so much hurt, defiance and struggle inside it, Danger Days had kind of a Last Stand vibe to it. As if they learned from their hurt, learned from their struggles and know what they need to do. And they will do it no matter what it takes. Even if it means dying. Their final album definitely isn’t my top 2 of theirs, but for some reason it was the most impactful one by a long shot, that album helped me get through some serious struggles and helped me stay true to myself throughout.

  • @markhenry2726
    @markhenry2726 ปีที่แล้ว +306

    If only more artists heeded this internal recognition. Too many have fought against this "instinct" and have created things that give their earlier releases a bad name. Not that anything can ever truly diminish the integrity of genuine artistic expression, a masterpiece remains a masterpiece irrespective of future pieces released by a given artist. But no doubt there are many artists who have pushed beyond the natural end of a project and the art suffers for it.

    • @mallurypollard7815
      @mallurypollard7815 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      As for the art and artist, it’s not a massive failure when that happens. Sometimes it happens because of outside influences like managers or studios that want to try to get a cash grab. Only media and fans think an artist going too far is a massive failure. To artists that’s just the nature of being creative: you have hits and you have stinkers and it’s not that big a deal.

    • @markhenry2726
      @markhenry2726 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@mallurypollard7815 that's definitely a valid opinion. I just think there's a reason Gerard here knew the black parade was where they'd ultimately stop creating art that he felt was truly representative of him as an artist. Lots of artists leave projects to do other things because of that feeling and I think that's respectable. Ultimately these things are always subjective and an artist is never going to please everyone but that's not the point. I don't consider it a failure for an artist to release an album, say, that is received poorly if the artist themself feels it was genuinely creative and true to their sense of expression. But I think we can all bring to mind a couple of artists that have made releases that feel very much out of place in terms of a natural progression, "forced", maybe is the right word. Whether due to external pressures or a desire to push something beyond its natural end point. I know of artists that will admit as much and don't feel right about it, this clip is a good example of that. I don't think people who disagree with me are wrong, there's more than one valid way of looking at these kinds of things for sure.

      @@markhenry2726i see that some artists think of their art as Jobs. Só they dont quit and that's it. But, for some of a more pure artistic instinct, it does not work that way. As you said yourself, both ways can br comprenhended

    I'm glad that tension produced "Danger Days," along with Mad Gear & Missle Kid + certain of the demos ("Tomorrow's Money," "Light Behind Your Eyes") because for me it's their best stuff. Once they pushed past things, they were practically back to their roots. And, their roots are punk bands like the Damned, or glam rock, or even bands like Talk Talk...while also being its own unique sound as well. But that wasn't as present in the theatricality of the first 3 albums. Which are brilliant. But for me the whole "Danger Days" era is the band at their most off-cuff, they're most laugh-out-loud, they're most fun. And finally, it gave me my favorite song of theirs, "The Kids From Yesterday."

    I'm 14, discovered MCR on April last year. I was just 9 months old when Danger Days came out, but I can't express how much I love this album. I used to say I don't have a favorite song, but now I would answer without hesitation. Summertime is really a special song to me. I listen to it at least 2 times a day, and never get tired of it. Yes, I'm too late. I became a fan exactly 10 years after their separation, and 1 year after their most recent tour; but that won't change my love for the band. There were times when I wasn't feeling quite good, but then I went to sleep and woke up with a smile after dreaming about going to their concerts.

    I understand where he’s coming from. It’s like filming the perfect the perfect three part movie trilogy. But then after some time, you have to make a 4th film.

    To be honest, their song "SING" from Danger Days was the perfect song before they exit. That sounded like a farewell song.

    I dang I studied all the guitar parts in all the songs of TBP from The End to Blood, didn't missed a beat. those days though. Are awesome. Early guitar playing days.

      Danger Days was still very much what they'd always sung about. They just didn't have the "I'm gonna kms" undertone of the last 2 records.

      It's like they attempted to experiment into the pop rock genre but it sounded weird for MCR identity standard which was more for emo and goth rock. I think Danger Days could perfectly fit for Fall Out Boy or Panic At The Disco band.

      @@pko_2.0_pop7 MCR was never emo, the black parade and revenge are two different things just like danger days

    The black parade saw me through many dark days in high school. However three cheers for sweet revenge will always be their top album imo. I only heard one song released after tbp, but my musical interest took a turn to heavier music and I didn't listen to them for a long time after high school.

    Their first three albums are the ones I listen to the most, I don’t mind the other ones but part of me wishes they released them under a different band name ya know? Like they are great albums but they have a different thematic feel and it’s a drastic departure from their older style. Just my feelings, nothing but love
