This band was so good. I’m 39 now so I was in college when they starting building momentum and was in my early/mid 20s. Seems like a different universe and a lifetime ago.

Muse was their opener and didn't show for what ever reason, so they did their BP set and then removed their Coats and played majority of 3 cheers album right after. Till this day by far the best concert I have seen. SOAD takes the number two spot lol.

The song Cancer really got me. I’m not a very emotional person but that performance actually made me tear up a bit. His voice shows so much emotion, it’s just so beautiful. I love them so much :)) 💕💕
This is downright genius, thank you for sharing! I never got to see the band in this type of format, the stances at the ending, the uniforms. It's all articulated so greatly, takes an obsession with attention to detail to do what these guys do. Forever my biggest inspirations 😀
I'm currently 15, I've been a fan since 2012. their music is so just incredible, i don't even know how to put it into words. The pure emotion they all put into their songs really hits you. Not a bad point. I actually enjoyed the performance myself, but WTTBP is such a HUGE song it just feels like it should have been in a stadium. I think that song would go off well in a small setting.
@@kevinw8688 true but why would they play anything but their super hit from the latest album on snl? Not that I wouldn’t have loved to hear a song like that or house of wolves instead. The thing that has bothered me since I was a kid is SNL's music setup whether you have a hip hop artist, rapper, indie singer, or rock. It doesn't matter, they all sound like trash and it's not their fault it's whoever mixes the music is trash.
@@andrewdoughty1213 bro don't defend them you owe them nothing. I mean if they're professionals then why were they unable to figure out that Gerard's mic died in this performance?? Also upon a quick Google search it's not only well documented that they're live performance audio is terrible and has nothing to do with the bands. But also apparently in the past Lorne Michael's has gone on record saying its a matter of budget. He been asked in the past why he didn't change the audio setup. They choose not to invest in better audio setups because it's easier to buy standardized equipment that they don't have to adjust for bands that's built more around the sketch comedy. But to that I counter with then stop doing live music, it's not complicated.

I like how with the second bass heavy song they told the bass player: "Here.. you get the tambourine" HAHAHAHAHAHA
Damn they picked like the hardest song to sing live…… and they did it amazingly 😱😍I’ve listened to this song no less than 100 times and the entire band sounded spot on
The whole album is gold!
Hello! Do you know what the song is called?
@@juanpabloleon8267 Welcome to the Black Parade first, then Cancer
@@sakurazumi6274 Hello. thank you so much. Greetings from Colombia.
@@juanpabloleon8267 Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance off of their album The Black Parade :)
This band was so good. I’m 39 now so I was in college when they starting building momentum and was in my early/mid 20s. Seems like a different universe and a lifetime ago.
I'm 31 and they were such a good band in my late teens.
I remember living in Phoenix when they toured this album. Muse was their opener and didn't show for what ever reason, so they did their BP set and then removed their Coats and played majority of 3 cheers album right after. Till this day by far the best concert I have seen. SOAD takes the number two spot lol.
So jealous. Especially SOAD!!
Lucky I love muse and MCR
Watching and hearing someone simultaneously acknowledge that they are enough and worthy for the moment, it transcends music, it’s all of it.
Shouts to those still here, hearing what I hear. You’re enough.
My favorite thing is that you can hear rays vocals mix with Gerard’s and the mix really well
Anyone ever see a live version where Gerard sings the chorus in the same octave as he does on the album? Seems like it’s always held back when live
I can't remember where I saw it but I have, I think it was danger days era.
OK, its the reading festival 2011, with Brian May.
@@jackr.a.8677 Ah, thanks! Still not quite the same as the studio recording, but definitely closer. Appreciate you pointing that out
I'm always afraid to point this out. People can be vicious. If they hadn't won over everyone in that audience, I bet that would help.
Also, it appears this is the time he started gaining weight, so his breath might've been harder to maintain. I don't mean this in a rude or harsh way, because I'm overweight.
is so wild that gerard was like "yeah im gonna impersonate this character dying with cancer and we all gonna wear military jackets and we gonna sing opera rock on tv show" and it worked out so good? and this was on tv? it seems like it was a billion years ago
It speaks to a really devastating experience that is shared by many people, they captured it perfectly in my opinion. Fuck cancer
I want them to perform on SNL again, so many artists have made their comeback in 2019/2020, about to go on tour, performing on SNL.
Covid robbed us of their return :(
The song Cancer really got me. I’m not a very emotional person but that performance actually made me tear up a bit. His voice shows so much emotion, it’s just so beautiful. I love them so much :)) 💕💕
R.I.P. Bob Bryar
THIS!
This is THE BEST live version of Cancer I've ever heard from Gerard. Hands down.
I'll never forget seeing this live at age 13 and rocking out in my living room, what an era.
ray absolutely killing it on the backup vocals
I liked this performance.
This is worth more than gold considering the outstanding camera qualities
And I still don’t know why they keep giving him a microphone stand when he obviously doesn’t need it😂🥰
To enhance the drama
To dance with it obviously
@@nvafletcher2622 ohh yah the sassy WAY
@@apdroidgeek1737 yesss but the sassy WAY
They wanted him to smash it like in the video
Whenever i hear "Cancer" "I'm not crying , your crying"
This is downright genius, thank you for sharing! I never got to see the band in this type of format, the stances at the ending, the uniforms. It's all articulated so greatly, takes an obsession with attention to detail to do what these guys do. Forever my biggest inspirations 😀
I'm currently 15, I've been a fan since 2012. their music is so just incredible, i don't even know how to put it into words. The pure emotion they all put into their songs really hits you. I cry every time i hear Cancer and I've luckily never even experienced loss of family from cancer, (edit: uhm so my mom just got diagnosed with cancer… )but it really makes me feel like i have that's how much emotion it fills me with. i so grateful for them even if they're all in their 40s now.
Great performance! Revisiting upon learning of Mr. Bryar's death. RIP
Gerard sounding exactly how he does on the recording but live...still love your voice Gerard; I'll never stop.
No he doesn't... Bruh.
@@Sarnatuile okay.
@@Sarnatuilethe mic was fucking him over a lot
I believe the Cancer performance is the most beautiful thing in all of history ever.
i owe u my life bro ive waited years for someone to drop this video
Same
I just love how expressive gerard is, it's amazing
Pure serotonin
When the lead guitar player wants to play bass so the bass player takes the tambourine 😂
No love lost to My Chem but these songs just do not work on a small stage. This album was definitely of the arena type variety.
True.
Not a bad point. I actually enjoyed the performance myself, but WTTBP is such a HUGE song it just feels like it should have been in a stadium. They probably would have done better taking a song off Three Cheers or do one of the more straight forward rockers on TBP, like This is How I disappear. I think that song would go off well in a small setting.
@@kevinw8688 true but why would they play anything but their super hit from the latest album on snl? Not that I wouldn’t have loved to hear a song like that or house of wolves instead. Idk exactly what date this aired, but I imagine this predates the Teenagers music video and the subsequent success of that single. Otherwise that probably would have been the obvious choice bc WTTBP is difficult as hell to pull of live, especially on a live tv taping lol
THANK YOU! IV BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS!!!
This was probably the most profound album I heard in high-school. I remember the day like it was yesterday and it's been almost almost 2 decades
I remember this performance to this day. When I was -what, 15 years old - I was so mad it wasn’t perfect. But as a 31 year old man now who’s been in bands, played shows etc; this performance makes me cry.
I love Gerard's face expressions
Scary, but still cool 🥵
The thing that has bothered me since I was a kid is SNL's music setup whether you have a hip hop artist, rapper, indie singer, or rock. It doesn't matter, they all sound like trash and it's not their fault it's whoever mixes the music is trash.
The sound engineers on SNL are seasoned professionals. If an artist/band sounds like shit, they're shit. It's not complicated.
But to that I counter with then stop doing live music, it's not complicated.
lol sorry bud, good bands sounds great on this stage.
@@chand911 the mixing on this is straight trash though. And there's been people way more popular than them on snl that sounded like trash on snl
Complaining about quality on a sketch comedy show is funny. You should just be grateful they show tons of dope artists and tbh, it's not bad, imo.
Been literally SEARCHING for this forever
SAME
Rest in peace Bob 🕊
This band is so good. I hope it doesn't go down in history as just an emo band. They deserve more than that.
What events unfolded for them to put Mikey on tambourine and Ray on bass? 😂
Ray plays bass on Cancer
Ray is so underrated
So blessed to have seen them live with linkin park when (imo) both bands were at their prime… as well as taking back Sunday.
How have I not seen this?! My favourite band for years and I’ve never seen them on snl?!
Not my favorite band but they’re very talented and have a few great songs
It doesn't help that they edit out all of the old music performances after a few years. :(
Rip Bob you will be missed forever
RIP BOB! ROCK IN HEAVEN
In 2006 I missed this, you have no idea how happy I am right now. Thank you so much for this!
I've been looking for this performance for a YEAR! Thank you so much!!!

Gerard looks genuinely happy up there.
Bob Bryar you effing drumming legend, forever immortalised and never forgotten!
He really was a phenomenal drummer. Shame he kept all of his drums flat. Caused a lot of wrist issues for him.
One of the best SNL performers and performances, you cant convince me otherwise
Oh my God I'm gonna CRY
this feels so new but hits nostalgia right in the face
YES MIKEY ON TAMBORINE im here for it
Gerard’s smile near the beginning is literally everything
Edit: it’s at 0:42
He looks so happy and confident despite singing such a gut wretching song
What a time to be alive
