Hammer main here to clear some things up! The 'power stance' you get into by charging and pressing circle changes how your level 2 and 3 charge moves work slightly. The level 2 charge moves you less distance and the level 3, when standing still, does a new attack, Brutal Big Bang! It ALSO gives an attack buff to the weapon (with an endgame weapon my hammer goes from 1800 to 2000 attack, it is a beefy buff!) along with stopping any attack from getting deflected. This power stance lasts until you 1) sheath your weapon. 2) get flinched(i.e. by a roar or tremor). 3) get hit at all. This buff is imperative to playing hammer and you should always keep it up! There are a few more advanced things for hammer like ledge hopping, but i'll leave that for a later date! The main thing to know is the monster's openings, understand them and you'll be able to surely bully the monster with bonks! And always stick to the head as best you can! Happy hunting!
Don't forget, Power Stance also changes your Lv2 charge while moving. Normally it's a dashing uppercut, but in Power Stance, it's a dash uppercut with a slight jump, giving you a bit more height to hit higher heads.
Watched till the end and I enjoyed every moment. One thing that I really like is that you actually read. Not many streamer does that and honestly, for a game that requires your full attention to understanding the mechanics, it gets really frustrating. You're not frustrating to watch because you read and I appreciate that.
Welcome to Monster Hunter! this franchise is often compared to Dark Souls but the only thing i'll say is that: MH is full of joy and color, it's beautiful and charming franchise with adorable cats and silly puns. It gives me so much joy! I adore it! Also the music, man, the music!
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, like let the man play the game! But it sounds like he's okay with it so it works. Hope you enjoy the game! I'm about 200 hours in at the moment.
MHW is my favorite game of all time and was my entry to the series You cannot believe how happy it made me to see you react to the weapons and go “WHAT THATS SO COOL THATS CRAZY”, I just sat at my desk giggling
Watching you discover all the weapons and the insanity they provide was a lot of fun ☺️ I’m about 300 hours on the series as a whole (200 on Rise, 50 each on World and 3u) so I’m still a bit of a newcomer, but hammer is one of my main loves and happy you found the unga-bunga life ☺️. I hope you continue to enjoy and find streaming success!
Tip for Bowguns: chat says you need to gather alot to make ammo, which is both true and not. If you visit the Botanical Researcher and do the relevant quests to level that tree up, you increase what was called the Farm in older titles... If you bring that guy say 1 Latchberry (used to make Piercing Ammo), he will use it to grow more while you are out on other quests. You start with one box for a single plant, mushroom or bug product, with about 20 slots. As you do the quests for Botanical Research, you eventually unlock 4 boxes with 20 slots each, totally 80 (or 3 boxes, 60 slots, can't remember). Getting this started early will allow you to grow enough materials to mass produce bullets sooner, but you also want to use some boxes to grow herbs for potions and honey for mega potions. There are also fertilizers you can use to increase your yields, but to keep those bonuses, you want to keep track of how many quests must be taken before the bonuses run out and replenish them to sustain high yields
i started mhw (both base game and dlc) as a bow main, on mh rise i played mainly with greatsword, switch axe and charge blade. i remember when i first played it, watched so many guides, saw so many videos (while trying to avoid spoilers) to learn what i could do with the weapons on a real hunt, it was a blast, hope you have fun and welcome to monster hunter!
Always excited for a new Hunter! Once the game really starts to click for you, be warned, gaming will never be the same... I've been thousands of hours in the series and not slowing down any time soon. Still actively playing almost all the entries even now, nothing hits like Monster Hunter does!
Monster Hunter has a huge learning curve for so many things. But you had a great chat giving you advice, and understanding the curve. Luckily World was optimized and given many QoL improvements. Not having to paintball monsters or craft mining tools or collect sharpening stones. I hope you have learned to gather while you move though.... Missing all of those foot prints and herbs was messing with my anxeity. Also the spin attack on the hammer is a bit weak and kills the sharpness. Concentrate more on finding an opening and doing your stronger bonks. Also to find the mushroom colonies you can target mushrooms and your scout flies will actually LEAD you to them.
People saying "don't care about the defense" are missing one VERY important point: this is the earliest of early game! Defense does matter this early, especially when you take a 2 and turn it into a 6 or a 10. You get three to five times more defense, that's going to make a big difference on how much damage you take. Later on, when you reach Iceborne yeah, defense don't matter, all monsters can two-to-three-hit kill you. and the extra armor won't change that. Great Jagras won't do anything to you with 2 or 6, but Anjanath can twoshot you at 6 or less. Same goes for the Sharpness vs Raw damage debate. Sharpness is useful, and a bigger number matters, but not this early!
whoever said defense is shit never properly build arround it! I am running a high def/regen build and have no problem with any monster ever (except for alatreon and fatalis (because elemental and fatalis being fatalis)) but even raging brachy can hardly hurt me and with combo's of 100+ on crits I do still decent damage enough to keep end game (tempered master rank elders) hunts under 15min
Hey just discovered your channel welcome to the community 😄, I played world mostly with hammer my beginner tips are: COLLECT EVERYTHING, upgrade armour as you go if you don’t understand skills it should give you the option to tell you what they do Hammer tips: hammer is a good weapon to stun and knock monster over the triangle🔺 helps knocking monsters over. By pressing circle ⭕️ you do the big bang the hammers most powerful attack and if you charge the hammer and release it does a overhead smash does good damage Hope this helps good luck😃

@@zimon85 I played the demo for the first MH on PS2, but I really started when MH freedom1 got released on PsP, but I only got really hookeed in MHFU :) Ps.: PS2 one was trash because of the analog stick ATTACKS xD
@@sekory88 I never played the PS2 version but I know about the right joystick to attack. Yeah same, Freedom was my entry and Freedom Unite was the game that hooked me forever.
The Greatsword automatically attacking after full charge is not actually good. MH is known for lots of little hidden mechanics. If you release your charge as soon as the third flash goes off, that's full power... but if you let it overcharge til it automatically attacks, your power actually drops between the third flash and then. Also, there has always been a hidden, slightly noticeable mechanic for large bladed weapons (Greatsword, Long Sword, Switch Axe) called a "sweet spot." If you hit a creature with the end or close to the handle of your sword, it will be a bit weaker than if you hit halfway up the blade. In older games with blood effects, you could tell by your blade trailing blood as you follow through on your swing, but that's not here. Instead, as with all the previous titles, there's like a single frame pause when you land a hit similar to 3d Legend of Zelda games. You can tell when you hit with the sweet spot if that pause does _not_ happen.
That guy that said "lance mid" in chat has clearly never actually used the weapon. it's such an aggressive weapon that lets you feel like you're actually dueling the monster. It unfortunately doesn't immediately have that "wow" factor that other weapons do in the training area because it's moveset is so simple at first glance, but it truly shines when you're able to seemlessly counter and and maneuver around the monster during the entire fight. Don't let it's simple combo deceive you! The secret to the weapon is in the footwork 😉
I totally agree. I took me some real effort with 40 consecutive hunts with Lance to really get into it, but oh boy... once in clicked it was suddenly so enjoyable. Was the starkest contrast of any weapon I learned. And that was in MH4U! Since MHW with the increased mobility and added moves its gotten even more fun!
Weapon Lord, here... I can use every weapon very well to master level, but Gunlance is my favorite, with Insect Glaive as second. Wyvern Fire: there is a cooldown for it after firing, and you can tell whether it's ready or not by looking at the weapon itself. In pretty much all cases, the Gunlance will have a piece popped open to vent heat, and you can see the insides glow. Quick Reload: just after launching ANY attack except Wyvern Fire, you can do a swift reload on your normal shells by swiftly holding Guard and hitting Shell, the same way you normally reload while standing. It looks badass, but keep in mind, it will ONLY reload your standard shells and NOT the Wyrmstake Cannon. To reload that one, you need to do a regular reload. If you need any tips, ask. Been playing since 2008, and have over 7500 hours in Worldborne alone 👍🏾
Don't be deterred by the "Complexity" of the Charge Blade, almost everything you have to learn about it is ALL FRONT LOADED. Once you get over that seemingly giant wall, it becomes one of the easiest weapons in this game to use and be successful with. That giant wall is very simple too, it's just that everyone likes to present is as the most complex thing on the planet without telling you what the "Flow" of the weapon has to be in a real hunt, knowing how the weapon flows makes it a lot, a looooooot easier. Charge Blade is basically: Charging your Phials and Spending them. Once you learn how to charge it the quickest, and spend them at the same rate everything about the weapon's complexity goes out the window and the most "skill" intensive maneuver boils down to two things: Guard Pointing (This weapon's version of a parry/riposte) and SAED cancels, the weapon is faaar faaaaar from the most "complex" thing in this game, it's genuinely one of the simpler ones.
