I agree Waino is brilliant. His last year in the league singing the national anthem at Busch 😂 and all his interviews got me liking him a lot more then I already did but his move into broadcasting has pushed it to another level he was great at the all star game too so down to earth and quick few jabs at Albert great to see 😂
@@todd.goslin6190 No they’re fundamentally different. The screwball is a breaking pitch, designed to make the hitter swing over the top off. A circle change is an off speed pitch with a little extra bite that hitters get out in front off thinking it’s a fastball. It would be correct to state that the change-ups variations derived from the palmball.
@doublem1975x not at all. For the most part, both have side spin with a combination of arm side run and sink. A good screwball should have more movement because the spin rates should be higher.
Didn't someone determine the Airbender is a screwball, because of the high spin rate. Personally I'm torn on the circle change screwball debate (same pitch or not). They move the same but that spin rate, I think, makes the screwball dive just alittle more.
MLB TV IS THE WAY! Easily my favorite streaming app( and my wife's least favorite). Did Honeywell play one game with the Pirates and then go right to the Dodgers? Yea, that screwball is sick!
Do you think taking bellos 4s completely away was a good idea? He seems a lot better when he can sprinkle it in to play off other pitches. Or am I just an idiot?
@@doublem1975x Yep. Remember when Barry was fouling off 100+ MPH pitches consistently like nobody's business? Not even modern MLB batters can do that!!!!
I never understood why the screwball is so rare. The first breaking ball I learned. Pronating came naturally to me maybe it’s just a feel thing. I used 3 fingers holding like a 2 seam and tried to spin off ring finger like a mother fucker. Worked well but not well enough or id be in these videos hahah
Funny it was considered to be rough on the arm historically when pronation is actually a lot healthier than no pronation on the release for your arm and elbow
@@sclaboughlook at Mike Marshall???? He was in the bigs for 15 with 0 surgeries. Lol. Not true at all. And threw 206 innings in 1974 with a cy young. 13 consecutive days in a row.
The screwball was so nasty not even the ump saw it 😂
He was pretty bad all game
@@LucasBowen-d6p It's Laz Diaz, he's pretty bad all the time
My pitcher, Tim Dillon, has a wicked screwball in Road to the Show. It's good to see it is a real pitch in real life. 😜
Good name for him
Just happy for Honeywell that hes in the Show...took him a long time to get there

Apparently, the screwball requires Laz Diaz behind the plate in order to be effective.
Movement wise a screwball is just a pitch with a lot of depth and run. Lots of changeups and splitters move like screwballs
The screwball never really went anywhere. It just evolved into the circle change.
They’re two completely different pitches. A screwball is closer to a curveball that has armside break.
@@doublem1975x no. They're very similar.

scroogie, fernando love, learned to throw it during his reign, still can do it slow pitch well, and knuckles
Brent Honeywell Jr. is an excellent addition to the Dodgers bullpen!!😤💯💙
First time here...I didn't know Mick Foley had a baseball channel!😃

It has a higher spin rate than screwballs too. It's its own pitch. Which is why I came up with the Airbender name.

WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT 2ND HALF PABLO LOPEZ NINJA?
I thought his pitch shapes looked better yesterday. I hope to see him return to form for the entire 2nd half.
It seems that if a pitcher doesn’t have a 95+ fastball with movement these days they’re cooked. The hitters are just too good now.
Yes. You're absolutely right about that. Barry was way too ahead of his time and perfected "The Swing" already in the early 2000s.
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te Yes he caught onto the short uppercut swing before all the coaches started teaching it.

Hendricks' antics on the mound are disgraceful
8:49 was an atrociously horrible call, I thought Angel Hernandez retired? 🙄
What's your favorite pitch ninja ? For me it's the knuckleball ! Ra Dickey was unstoppable for a while
I agree. A nasty knuckleball is awesome
Poor guy certainly has the yips. So damned sad.
Goddamn Dylan
"Screw this"
hi ninja
We need more screwballs. UCLs are getting injured regardless anyway
Isn't screwball just a pronated changeup? I feel like that the movement is the same, down and away from lefties. Pedro's changeup comes in mind.
Is there any truth to the rumor that the screwball is bad for your arm?
No
Uncertain. Likely untrue, but the jury is out still...even with stuff we have to measure stress on the arm.
Look at Fernando Venezuela, that screwball plus so many innings ruined his arm
