This will ruin their self esteem! SMH
The first time I ever wore any extensions in my head, I was 8 and wildly protested against it. I hated the idea of it and wanted my hair styled as it was. My hair was short, but long enough to do cornrows with rainbow beads at the end; which was the style that I wanted and loved. My aunt and the stylists at the shop laughed at me, told me I was overreacting, and literally HELD ME DOWN and tightly added braiding hair to my cornrows as I cried and fought in pain. I would NEVER do this to my child or anyone else's child!! When they were finished braiding they told me "See? You look so pretty NOW!" I was furious because I was pretty way before they added anything extra to my hair and I felt insulted, disgusted and violated. 💔😞
I hate that we facilitate so much self hate to the girls of our community. BW, we collectively need to do better with setting the example for self love amongst our sisters throughout the whole diaspora.

Oh wow omg 😳 thanks for sharing your story that is so sad smh 🤦🏾‍♀️…it’s crazy at 8 you knew you would rather embrace your real hair but the grown ups didn’t even understand the importance smh 🤦🏾‍♀️

My 5 and 3 year old nieces do not wear make up and lace front wigs. They are still having a normal childhood.

🤦🏾‍♀️why are they rushing for these kids to grow up? Let kids be kids. If only they taught them how to handle their natural hair with care the same why they are teaching them how to wear lace fronts😑

The damage that this will do their hair is so scary . I agree there is no boundary or time to do anything. Kids can do anything that the adults can do and that just too dangerous. Why do toddlers needs wigs ?

The first time I wore weave was for my high school graduation ball, I was 16 years old though. I didn't know what to do with my hair at the time, so my hair dresser, cousin, who had some weave and a few braid hair and was able to give a cute style after. I wore weave maybe 2 times after at 20 or so and never did again. Never wore wigs because I never felt secure about it lol. Now I don't even wear braids because I am content with my natural hair and didn't want to time or money doing it.

Our stories sound very similar…I would feel silly in a wig and I don’t wear braids either…thanks for watching 🤎

Mom is sitting there with a bonnet on… and we thought that perming a child hair was not the best idea and extremely damaging. Now they are going to have to have to deal with balding edges, not feeling pretty wearing their own hair. I mean you have grown women who admit to not feeling cute when they wear weaves and then give themselves a break and wear their own hair. Oh and the over sexuality. 😡 Putting our children at such a disadvantage. If they would put this much effort into educating their children as they put into excelling at the ratchet life…🤷🏾‍♀️🩷🩷🩷🩷

I'm not a parent, but I was someone's child. My perspective is that the message this would deliver to me as a child would be that there's something wrong with my hair, so it must be covered in order for me to be accepted, loved, respected, and/or seen as beautiful. That makes me sad for them 😢 I wore a wig last year for 4 months while waiting for my hair to grow out from a bad haircut. Other than that, I'd never worn artifical hair before. I went natural from relaxers in 2016 and it was the best decision I ever made. My confidence has gone up and the f*cks I give about what people think have gone down 😆

This is just gross! This is definitely adutification of our daughters and it’s just sad. I wish people would just let these kids be kids. I had to BEG my mom to let me relax my hair in middle school and she hated it every single day (my mom was natural all of her life). I was like you, I had glued in tracks my last few years of HS ( I think it was like two strips 🤣🤣🤣) and then my first full sew-in was in my late 20s. It’s like the girls now days don’t go through that awkward hair stage anymore.

I grew up on presses then in the early 2000 ‘s I got a sew in Neva again cause folks will jus cut it out including your real hair then I tried a weave in like 2018 and the process is jus tedious but I normally rock braids r go natural
