Performance SUVs are becoming more and more popular. I have an RSQ3 (8U 340 BHP), and it's probably the best car I've owned in over 45 years of driving. Enough room, easy to get in and out of, and goes like stink with AWD and the 5 pot 2.5 ltr Turbo engine....sounds awesome as well. Not all of us "more mature" petrolheads are ready for a tamer crossover yet, and these quick SUVs just fit the bill perfectly.....luv 'em!
I’ve seen this and I love it! Great choice for a video. Would be a great vehicle in Canada for our winters, though I’d not trade my 2019 Golf R for it. I would however love to be able to drive a T-Roc R in the cold months and my Golf R the rest of the time... perfect.

Great video mate. Just wanted to ask you about the ride comfort in Normal mode. Being a sporty SUV with a stiffer suspension and adjustable dampers, I could still see bumpy ride with your body rattling jumping up and down in Normal mode? How bad is it? Had a Fiesta ST and after a few months, my back started to hurt even though I loved it. Lot of city driving going to work and long journeys on the M1, what are your impressions? Thanks
Great video Luke. It was funny seeing you try hard not to smile, but it was clear it was bringing a big grin to your face. Always a good sign during a test drive.

Is the boot any bigger? With the sloping roof line it looks less practical than the boxy golf.

One of the selling points of a crossover is practicality, which you said nothing about.
You needed to convince a bachelor who is now considering to starting a family on why he should let go of his Golf R for this baby.
For me, the vid was more of a "joyride" for you, than giving us (the consumers) information about the car.

The idea of a demonstrator is to test its potential, taking it out for a test drive means just that, not taking it for a 45mph drive from a 300bhp engine, otherwise its a complete waste of time.You got the car dirty, take it back dirty, no need for a fresh tank of fuel, unless you did a 400 mile test drive.
Only issue as good as it is, is the small boot! That sloping boot kid cuts a large section of space. Try fitting a pram and all the other stuff that comes with a kid and there isn’t anymore room 🤨 I think I’d rather have a civic type r as a second car for the family, practical and fast.

I notice there is no Comfort setting, how firm is the ride in the Normal setting, is the car anyway uncomfortable?
I would think it's not too bad due to the higher ride height but wouldn't say for sure
On my short list
I had a 1.5 Golf that had the Performance Monitor. Really not that special.
Another great adventure. We were going to pick 1 of those before we chose the Discovery Sport. They are lovely though, Discovery is nicer to drive. Remember the Smart Fortwo Brabus 😉
I also love the fact your doing like a mini review. Really wish you would branch out into car reviews. Would really widen your viewers.
I think I’d prefer the Golf R estate if I wanted extra space.
Need to turn off the soundaktor so you can hear the "real" exhaust. Why would you spend £3000 on an Akrapovic exhaust system only to have it drowned out by "fake" engine noise in the cabin?
Bought my Up GTI and mk7.5 R from these guys. Can’t fault them! They had a t-roc R there which I think the manager bought for his wife!?

Drove a Golf R but found it too hard for everyday use. How does the T-Roc compare!
Stuart Bloom In normal mode it’s quite confortable, a bit stiffer than an normal t roc but by far not as hard as in race mode, for everyday use it’s really nice in my opinion
The Iso fix points have delayed our cars until august. They don't meet Australian Design Rules. We are getting a Sydney Swans footy team colour car. White with red roof and black wheels or Red with black roof and black wheels. VW sponsors them. Base model $48-$52k. No guarantee of R model. Estimated for $65k. Golf R money. That said, golf R is $54,990 drive away at present on run out.

Looks to me like the Overton Road, from the A303 Micheldever junction heading towards Overton then towards Kingsclere. Fantastic roads for proper driving imo

I’ve just test driven one (take delivery on 09 March 20) and I deliberately hit some medium sized potholes and drains to test the ride. I’ve got to say I was extremely impressed and actually remarked to the salesman how compliant the ride it was. This was standard suspension too without the optional adaptive suspension. I’ve owned BMWs in the past and I must say they are far more back breakingky harsh.

Agreed. Plus a Golf R Estate has the factor of cool. You don’t see many, it’s more practical and at the end of the day it’s not an another SUV.

VW Has basically killed off the Golf R because what they have done here is just made any old SUV/Crossover just as capable and they have taken the special factor out of the Golf R . the Golf R is no longer a unique sporty car in the VW lineup as any old SUV can just be as special and i think that's wrong . They should just keep Family SUV's with normal Diesel engines or 2.0L Petrol/Hybrids. For example Imagine driving around in a VW Passat GTi.. it's just wrong.

S3 is indeed better than the Golf R, RS Q3 is king of the hot cross- overs however.
VW do need to work on power outputs however, 300bhp is low these days...
