I absolutely loved this long video around a specific concept. I've read A Darker Shade of Magic after you've rated it 5 stars and I also gave the same rating to the book. I can't wait to read the second book.
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time but this is my first comment. Just wanted to say that while I did initially start watching because of your workout-focused content, I’m also a Booktube girlie at heart and I’ve really appreciated the shift into more of a focus on reading. In my opinion, the Poppy War and the Shades of Magic trilogies are the only ones that are worth finishing. I was really disappointed with the final book in the Folk of the Air trilogy, so much so that it sort of lessened my love for the first two books, and I never continued past the first book in the Red Queen series.
Hi!!! So glad you’ve stuck around and thank you for your first comment ❤️ Good to know… yeah Glass Sword was so disappointing and I’ve only heard it goes downhill from there 😂
@@jaimefok I'm definitely planning on sticking around for as long as you keep making videos; there's something very cozy and comforting about them to me. Yeah, I was feeling pretty meh about Red Queen back when I read it and I didn't hear the greatest things about Glass Sword when it came out, so bullet dodged, I guess 😌
I love how your whole family picked the same book! That is too cute and adorable! My heart loved to see it. Huffy and the babies picking out your books 😫😍 When I want my cat to choose a book for me, I put treats on all the books and have him choose it that way.
I’m so glad you included Catching Fire! One of my favorite series. Have you seen the new movie Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes? I want to read the book first before I watch the movie
Same as movies, the sequel does usually fall short. I guess expectations are higher after the first one. Chamber of secrets was also my least favorite in the series. 😅😅
The Wicked King is def everyones least fav book in the Cruel Prince trilogy and it pretty much is a "filler" book ( i'd say) It does get hard to finish a series when the sequel is not as good as the first one but, I def think you should finish the trilogy. Love your videos
oh this is good to hear! i was getting a lot of messages saying the 2nd book was better than the first, so i got worried :P still so excited to finish the trilogy tho!
Appreciate you being careful not to tell too many spoilers about books/marking when to skip ahead! Random question- how do you decide if you want to buy a book as hardcover or paperback?
i generally love hardcovers better, so i'll usually choose hardcover - especially for longer books. for the books in this video, i honestly only saw paperback as an option in my stores!
@@jaimefok Same with me. I was just talking about it with my friend, I like taking the dust covers off and seeing if there's anything special behind it . Especially on limited editions :)
@jaimefok right ?! Have you seen Dark Star Burning,Ash Falls White. I saw it at Barnes and noble , their limited edition is light purple and has a gold embossed Phoenix on it ! I was like 🤩
The timing of this video! I was just thinking about how two of my top 2023 years were sequels. You should totally check out The Prison Healer series; I think you’d like it. Book #2 The Gilded Cage was so good! Also Deborah Harkness’ All Souls series was excellent, and book #2 was my fave.
The Red Queen series definitely went downhill for me... I remember finishing Glass Sword bored and not even wanting to read the rest of the series.. I actually ended up just picking up the last book in a library and reading the last chapters one day to find out what happened to the characters (and not even loving the ending tbh) so I wouldn't recommend continuing the series personally. VE Schwab's series is a v good one though, as is Poppy War (definitely an intense series in terms of emotions though)! Happy New Year! I hope you keep finding great books that you enjoy as they are one of the best parts of life :) (some more recommendations- The bear and the nightingale (fairytale Russian-inspired fantasy), The city of stairs (suspense/murder mystery mixed with fantasy), Nevernight (similar ish to Throne of Glass)
Ok ok ok I think I’ve officially decided to give up on Red Queen 😂 maybe I’ll just look up online what happens lol! Thank you for the recs! Bear and the nightingale is on my TBR, will check out the rest!
Honestly so impressive that you can be in the middle of so many series at the same time! 😂 I’m reading Iron Flame and listening to A Court of Mist and Fury on audio right now, and that is the MAX number of series I can handle at a time lol. How do you keep them all straight?!
I just finished The Wicked King and I have the same feelings! For me (SPOILERS IF YOU DIDNT READ THE TWO BOOKS) - - - - - -I feel the first book plot twist was more shocking than the second book plot twist. Like the second book plot twist sort of let me down since I figured out based on the context clues. While the first book I had no idea what happened and was thrown into a curve ball.
Yay a new video is out - was looking forward to it :D Hahaha, my sis fav sequel of all time is Chamber of Secrets Can you do an overall series review on The Poppy War and Ember in the Ashes series?
THE CRUEL PRINCE SPOILER: The reason she couldn’t make Cardan swear his loyalty to her for longer by commanding him is the same as if you were granted 3 wishes, you can’t wish for more wishes.
I've never read fantasy before, I used to read only classics, but sometimes I just feel like reading something.. easy and entertaining 😅 and thanks to you I've read once upon a broken heart trilogy, what should I read next? And by the way, can you please tell me (I don't know if I'm already ready to read so many fantasy books but I just want to be prepared), how should I start reading Sarah J Maas books? Which series should I begin with?
I’m about to start the Mistborn series and I’m hoping there is no curse of the sequel I stopped reading a lot of series because I hated being let down with repetitive stories or characters changing personalities.
Also in defense of the final divergent book it was a great ending spoiler cause she fought so hard she died for her causes and I don’t know that many YA dystopians that did that to there main character
I'm not much of a Harry Potter fan (I think I am just too old for them to have the nostalgic feel), but for me, Prisoner of Azkaban is best, and Goblet of Fire is the worst - I nearly gave up on the series at that point.
omg that's so funny! goblet of fire was my fav book in the series growing up lol i will admit the movie adaptation for goblet of fire was a bit disappointing
I felt the same ab the WHOLE red queen series. Just absolutely bored. The story is SO GOOD, but the way it was written just wasn't for me. (Read the whole thing tho)
which series should i continue?
The cruel prince 👑🧚🏻♀️✨🗡️🩸🩶
