  • This was a very fun little hunt with my good friends Kyle and Derek! We took out my boat to search different river banks for fossil sea urchins, shark teeth and whatever else we could find. We saw some cool freshwater springs, some wildlife, found great fossils and had a wonderful time.

    Hmmm those little baby echinoids and shells would look beautiful as earrings and pendants! Maybe after they’re stabilized with some crazy glue or resin.

      It is definitely fun. A lot of people have great stuff very close to them and don’t need to travel though. People in FL often times tell me they wish they could travel to find cool things because they don’t know what’s here. If you wanna do this, try looking close to you. You might be surprised what you find.

    Yay! Kyle and Derek too. : ) Good idea to cut that one with the crystals and agate banding. Man Kyle's sound effects are hilarious! Chris, you really need to take some stills of the eroded bank or the pools on the bank, for cards or framing. Purdy shark teeth. Chris. Loved that Shizaster, Kyle And Derek. The big question-"What's wrong with Kyle?" hmm .... Can't rightly say, but I do hope it's catchy. Someone needs to make some pendants from those tiny noids. : )

    You wanna hit that section when the guage for that area is about 21ft. Summer before last when it was super dry it looked so different and I was in echinoid heaven. There's an amazing limestone exposure on the withlacoochee before it dumps into said river.... I soak that limestone off them for a day in water and tiny bit of vinegar then use a toothbrush. Trust me.. If we get lucky enough for the suwannee to go down more right now gonna be great. Have you read the roadside geology of Florida? Great guide for me when I was first learning about Florida formations

    • @PaleoCris
      @PaleoCris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a fantastic book and I used to hunt that exposure you’re talking about. I believe that one is an exposure of Oligocene Suwannee limestone.

    • @ereynoldful3974
      @ereynoldful3974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaleoCris yep. I truly love that book. The karst formation in that last stretch before it dumps into the suwannee is frikkin unbelievable! There's one particular spring I dive there but the spring pool itself has echinoids in pristine condition mostly laying on the bottom. I almost thought I was hallucinating! 😂 I started feeling bad about how many I'd picked up so I put some back lol. That stretch just went down to a good level then back up this week after that crazy storm Saturday but still good for hunting right now.
